A very well organized and interesting trip with a great tour guide and great hikes and lodges. Would recommend this trip. The group size of 18 was a perfect number and would love to do another trip to Costa Rica in the future just to revisit the rain forest and all its exotic bird life. Thank you!

The Best of Costa Rica: Exploring Natural Wonders immerses you in the wild nature across the country and gives you insight as to how much the native people care about preserving wild creatures and habitat. Fantastic!

Highly rrcommend this program with slight modifications for free time. Edwin Ramirez as guide and Ronaldo as driver were spectacular. Small group size was perfect

This was my 2nd Road Scholar program and I thought it was excellent. It was well balanced in terms of content ranging from seeing and learning about Costa Ricas wildlife and ecology to meeting some of its people and getting a sense of their culture and heritage. (NOTE: This IS a "NATURAL Wonders" program so you will get much more of the wildlife/ecology than the culture/heritage.) I particularly enjoyed the opportunities to take photographs. (Bring a good camera with telephoto if you have one.) Two of the lectures on biodiversity and the ecological impacts of volcanoes and earthquakes were particularly good. The pace of the program (for me) was also good, keeping us going from early morning to early evening; but not over-doing it. Our group leader was outstanding and I think made an overall good program into an excellent one. Hopefully all the groups leaders are as talented.

Our trip to Costa Rica to explore the natural wonders was very informative and a joy to participate in. The cleanliness of the accommodations and the Beautiful bus we're great. The food represented the best of Costa Rica. And our guide who was incredibly informed of all things flora and fauna. I would highly recommend this trip if you want to learn more about Costa Rica.

We have been on 4 road scholar trips and have enjoyed each one. However, on this trip to Costa Rica we had the ultimate guide, Roger. He was knowledgeable about all of the natural wonders and, as a Tico himself, knew quite a bit about the country in general. In addition to his knowledge of Costa Rica he was particularly adept at meeting our various needs be they dietary or whatever. He was always there for us. The speakers at our educational programs and on our field trips expanded our understanding immeasurably. Also wonderful was our driver. He took us safely down narrow, bumpy roads by bus on roads that I would not have driven myself.

The title says it all: the trip covered Costa Rica coast-to-coast with plenty of opportunities to see the outdoors and wildlife of the different regions. Excellent field trips, plantation tours, and activities such as boat tours, river rafting, and outrigger canoes in the ocean. We went during the dry season and only had one wet hike. Excellent guide; knowledgeable, very organized, and a good sense of humor. Highly recommend this as a first-time trip to this country.

The Best of Costa Rica: Exploring Natural Wonders is a program for active individuals who are lifelong learners. The field trips and experiences provided during the class far exceeded my expectations, and there was a little time each day for unstructured activities and relaxation. An unexpected plus was the knowledge and positive attitudes brought to the course by other participants. The instructor and supplemental lecturers were not only knowledgeable and organized, but they shared their love for the country and its vision for the future. Our experienced instructor took good care of us and brought an unexpected depth of knowledge, plus music, humor and deep affection for his country. What a wonderful interpreter and ambassador for Costa Rica! He has a real gift for helping students relate to the place and the information. I give him a great deal of credit for our delightful experience on this Road Scholar trip, an introduction to the spectacular natural and cultural areas of Costa Rica. I would certainly recommend this program to others who are physically active and share my interests in the plants, animals, economy, culture and natural treasures of this wonderful country.

If you are interested in learning this is a great overview of Costa Rica. The lectures and demonstrations were informative and usually with some humor thrown in. We saw plenty of birds and several unique animals. Great Adventure!

This trip made me want to do Road Scholar for travel for the rest of my life. Our guide, Jorge, was the greatest. He was always helpful and very knowledgeable. I loved the informative lectures, and we had a great group of fellow seniors. Loved it.

Carole

This trip should be your first experience of Costa Rica as it offered a broad view of the unique features of the country.

There is no better way to explore and learn about all of Costa Rica!

Would highly recommend traveling with Road Scholars especially to unfamiliar places. Felt completely safe throughout the entire trip. Appreciate how thoroughly Road Scholar prepared me for the trip. Would recommend any trip with Reimer as the tour guide!

Elizabeth

Great tour! Gives a wonderful overview of different part of Costa Rica. I would do same tour again.

This was our fifth Road Scholars adventure and it was absolutely fabulous. A real combination of learning, hiking, outdoor adventures, with still some relaxation time. We could not think of one thing to make it a better program!

Laura

The Best of Costa Rica: Exploring Natural Wonders allows you to do exactly that. Through hiking, rafting, traveling from one side of the country to the other, you get to explore and see and understand the different regions of this small but amazing country. Watching for macaws, toucans, howler monkeys, iguanas, and even snakes is fun and exciting - especially when they are spotted. This was one of the best Road Scholar trips I have taken.

Maury

Costa Rica is an amazing country with respect to its ecology, bio diversity, physical beauty, respect for the environment and the disposition of its people. Their favorite expression, “pure vida”, says it all. They respect their environment and take seriously their role in protecting it. The people are pleasant and positive. The rain forest is remarkable. The beautify headturning.

Michael

This was a great way to see and learn about Costa Rica. I want to go back!

Just returned from The Best of Costa Rica: Exploring Natural Wonders. The trip was amazing. We had an excellent guide and our group was fun with everyone getting along nicely together. It was hard to leave it when the last day came. We were fortunate that the weather was dry and rain was not a concern for our activities. It was our first time in the country but it will not be our last.

Deborah

Tour and guide were excellent. Good way to see the parks and their inhabitants.

This trip was truly excellent for those who like the structure involved in a group trip (or who know ahead of time to view the Road Scholar trip as a wonderful introduction to Costa Rica, and can also come back later and explore more freely on their own). Luis is an incredible guide in every possible way, as well as an engaging, warm person, and we were especially lucky to get him. His immense knowledge of wildlife and birds created many very special experiences we might have otherwise missed. For people who are naturally very independent/adventurous and also want to spend time meeting and mingling a lot with everyday Costa Ricans, I would tell them to perhaps wait to do Road Scholar until they are older and will by necessity prioritize security and having all details managed for you over having more freedom and flexibility. I ended up deciding to independently return to Costa Rica again at a later time to more freely explore and wander, and I view the experience of this trip as a really great introduction to Costa Rica.

This was a great trip! Pedro is so knowledgeable and delightful. We had intense rain, but his ability to encourage all of us never faltered. The accommodations were excellent with the exception of the lodging in Sarapaqui which was inconsistent. The food was wonderful everywhere - healthy, tasty and abundant. The lectures were all interesting, particularly the first lecture in San Jose - what a terrific speaker! My only criticism was the itinerary for the 2 days in Punta Leona - it seemed we were on the bus back & forth multiple times, the activities of which could have been scheduled quite differently to minimize bus time and maximize our time at Punta Leona.

Luiz Vargas is a gem.

This is a wonderful trip especially for first time visitors to Costa Rica. It explores the Nature of the country.

My understanding of Costa Rica, its people, its mountains and rivers, and its animals have come into focus for me. I have thoroughly enjoyed experiencing and learning about this thoughtful country. Costa Rica is trying hard to be more environmentally correct, and it is succeeding in many areas. Using a variety of events, hikes, lectures, and experiences, Road Scholar has opened up this country for discovery. Road Scholar made this easy and enjoyable.

Ken
(5)

This was my first Road Scholar experience and it was amazing. The programs were all very well presented, the accommodations were good, the field trips fun and educational and our tour leader was incredible. There were a number of people in the group that had use Road Scholar before and said this was pretty much the level of quality they experience. I can't recommended it enough.

Terri
(5)

This was our first trip with Roads Scholar but not our first group trip. We will book another trip with Road Scholar soon! The trip was fabulous. We loved our listening devices!

Carl
(5)

Terrific trip! Jorge, our guide was exceptional! His vast knowledge, organization, patience, and good spirit made our trip most memorable! We learned so much not only from our amazing guide, but also from the stimulating, inspiring speakers we had at each location. The white water rafting and outrigger canoe experiences were an active addition enjoyed by all. Bird watching walks, visits to various agricultural enterprises, demonstrations and abundant delicious food made this trip one to remember fondly for a long time! Highly recommend!

It is hard to find enough superlatives to describe my first experience with Road Scholar during "The Best of Costa Rica: Exploring Natural Wonders. I learned a great deal about the importance of eco-tourism in Costa Rica, thoroughly enjoyed the itinerary and my fellow travelers. But above all, our guide Edwin Ramirez was exceptional. His knowledge of each area, the flora and fauna, and expertise in group organization and management were A+. I am a solo traveller and felt very comfortable in all the program settings.

Stephen
(5)

this tour of Costa Rica combines a good mix of lecture learning about geography and biodiversity, walking and boat exploration of the area, touring coffee and chocolate facilities and adventure of hiking over hanging bridges, river rafting and sea outrigger canoeing. The group size was great so we could meet everyone. The Road Scholar guide was very knowledgeable of Costa Rica history, flora and fauna and geology. He was both very personable and professional. It was our favorite of the three Road Scholar trips we have so far taken.

Lillian
(5)

Our trip to Costa Rica was above expectations. It reinforced my feelings about Road Scholar and what an amazing organization they are. I will continue to use Road Scholar as my travel guide.

Carl
(5)

The program had a good variety of activities. We saw many exotic birds and animals and learned about Costa Rica's biodiversity. I enjoyed the rainforest hikes, the scenic boat rides, the rafting experience, the beach excursion, and watching the sun set over the Pacific on our last night.

Larry
(5)

We enjoyed this tour very much. The flora and fauna, the geography, the people of Costa Rica were beyond our rather high expectations. Our guide and lecture presenters were superb.

This is a fantastic trip for anyone who loves the natural world and how humans fit into the circle of life.

Lenin, Duarte (spelling?), the trip leader was outstanding. His knowledge of the flora and fauna was spot on. His personal manner was always empathetic and thorough, with a scholarly approach. Not only could he quickly find with his scope and identify incredibly diverse animal calls and species, he knew a lot about how all these creatures and plants survive and interact. We suspect Lenin had some input with the choices of once-in-a-lifetime Road Scholar visits to schools, farms, protected natural areas, and cultural life of Costa Rica. His local knowledge and visible friendship with all these folks demonstrated a deep appreciation for his country's values and traditions. Pura vida... trip leaders like Lenin encourage us to keep coming back Wayne Hensche Grand Marais, MN

Just do it! The Best of Costa Rica: Exploring Natural Wonders exceeded all hopes and expectations. The adventures, learning experiences, accommodations (and our guide!!) were top notch. A good trip is one that changes the traveler. Check.

Robert

This was one of the most interesting and informative (i.e. howler monkeys make great alarm clocks and a coati mundi makes an interesting if uninvited breakfast companion)trips we've ever taken. Well worth doing.

Diane
(5)

I really recommend Lenin Duarte as a leader and guide.

Ruth
(5)

This is an incredible program! If you want to learn about biodiversity, this is a great place to go - the ecosystem is diverse and rich with plants, birds, and animals. I saw birds I've only seen in books, and unusual animals such as coatis and crocodiles. If you are a nature lover, you will love this program!

Susan
(5)

Easy to use website, great overall program, interesting participants Nice small groups, well informed and organized guide. This was my first Roads Scholar trip and I plan to do another next year.

Debra
(5)

This program crisscrossed a wide swath of Costa Rica highlighting the beautiful birds, diverse habitats and interesting wildlife that thrive in the diverse environments of the country. Presentations gave us broad overview of the people and their efforts to preserve and sustain their environment and their communities. Meeting the local experts and entrepreneurs added to our understanding of their efforts and highlighted the natural wonders that we encountered. Having expert guides and plenty of time to observe, photograph and enjoy the beauty of the country made this program one of our favorite Road Scholar experiences.

Deborah
(5)

Costa Rica is a trip which can provide a lot of first-time experiences. On my trip in mid-October, I saw a green turtle lay eggs on a beach in Tortuguerro under the light of a full moon. I saw crocodiles while taking a boat ride on a river. I swam in the Pacific Ocean, rode the waves, then go out to view a beautiful Macaw cracking nuts in a tree. At one of our lodgings, I got to soak in the hot springs filled with healing minerals. This trip is too good to miss.

Sarah
(5)

At the top of my bucket list, the Exploring Natural Wonders program met all my expectations. As a person interested in biodiversity, I was able to see and learn about many plants and animals and how they relate to each other and to humans. I recommend this trip for solo travelers, as I was included in everything. The hikes were sometimes challenging, but I felt a sense of accomplishment when I completed them.

Eleanor
(5)

This was a comprehensive tour of Costa Rica, led and facilitated by our exceptional tour leader, Edwin Ramirez. The tour's high point was a trip to the beaches at Tortuguero to see green sea turtles lay their eggs, but that turned out to be one of many high points as we learned first-hand about the land, history, biodiversity, and ecology of the country, met its people, and enjoyed participating in its rising industry of eco-tourism. Birding, walking on trails through the rain forest, suspension bridges, beaches, an elementary school visit, eating local foods...a wonderful & varied taste of so much. Pura Vida!

Marsha
(5)

What an awesome adventure! This trip was unbelieveable! Several times my roommate and I looked at each other and quipped, "pinch me; is this for real?" If you are reasonably fit and can walk and climb while you experience birds and wildlife in their natural habitat, this is the excursion for you! If you love learning about biodiversity and the impact of climate change on our environment, then join RoadScholar for this informative trip to one of the most interesting destinations in Central America. I enjoyed every minute and plan to travel to more locations on my "bucket list" with RoadScholar in the future.

Judith
(5)

A life-changing experience. A real look at the natural wonders and ecology of Costa Rica as well as its people and culture.

Carol
(5)

This program was exceptional in every respect. Our group of 18 was mixed 3 couples and the remainder single women traveling, some with friends some alone. Anyone interested should feel perfectly comfortable going as a single. Everyone mixed very well.

Kathryn
(5)

Road Scholar, Costa Rican Adventures, was everything and more than I hoped for. What a safe and organized way to explore rain forests, biodiversity, culture, food, and the best coffee ever. I had the privilege of watching a green turtle lay her eggs on a protected Caribbean beach to observing wild Quetzals. Thank you, Road Scholar.

Jennifer

This is a great program, well-organized and varied. But it is rigorous and intense and requires fairly good physical condition and a flexible attitude.

Mary Ann
(5)

This was my first Road Scholar trip, but it won't be my last! It was a wonderful introduction to the beauty and biodiversity of Costa Rica. Our guide was fabulous, (as was our bus driver)! I am still in awe at how much we saw, how many different habitats we explored, and how many unique experiences we had! Our guide, Jorge Mario, was extremely knowledgable and good at communication, plus he had a gift for keeping us on schedule. We watched a sea turtle lay eggs, saw an amazing number of bird species, reptiles and mammals, enjoyed white water rafting, a crocodile safari, a hands on experience with chocolate making, and interesting learning experiences from a variety of experts. I can't recommend this trip highly enough! Already dreaming about another trip to Costa Rica!

Rose

The best program ever. Going coast to coast fantastic. Program director William was GREAT.

The Natural Wonders of Costa Rica program was excellent! The joy of learning so much about such a progressive and compassionate culture and majestic environment, coupled with spending 10 days immersed in the rainforests, was so incredible that I was ready to turn around and go back as soon as I got home!

Sharon
(5)

This was every bit as advertised, and even better. It exceeded my expectations. Learning about Costa Rica and its history and geology, and seeing its biodiversity & beauty, was a wonderful experience. And the wildlife! This was my first Road Scholar vacation, hopefully the first of many.

Susan
(5)

This program exceeded my expectations in so many ways! The blend of active adventures, educational lectures, guided walks, agrotourism, wildlife sightings and personal time was perfect. Everything was well-organized by Road Scholar and our guide was exceptional. Great value and fabulous experience.

Carolyn
(5)

This Costa Rica trip was amazing! We saw a great deal of a beautiful country, enjoyed a wide variety of experiences in the rain forest, cloud forest and at the beach, and met interesting Costa Rican people who taught us about their country. The school visit and the rafting were highlights. I highly recommend this trip.

Cindy
(5)

The Natural Wonders of Costa Rica trip was amazing - a true adventure, informative, local and one I could not have gotten on my own. Being part of a group added to my experience and I will certainly be taking more Road Scholar trips!

John
(5)

Well planned and executed. It was diverse and wonderful with an exceptionally talented guide.

Marie
(5)

What an awesome experience - Cristian and Hector were the ultimate professionals in taking care of us as we toured the country to discover its natural wonders. There were too many highlights to list, but every place offered a chance to see flora, fauna, and understand the connection between their beautiful biodiversity and the people/culture/history of this nugget in Central America.

Glen
(5)

An exciting journey through Costa Rica's divers flora and fauna.

Mary Ann
(5)

Wonderful trip. Exceeded all expectations. Learning experience and opened my eyes to the beauties of Central America, People of Costa Rica were warm and welcoming. Always helpful and smiling at we tourestos .

Our guide, Jimmy Trejos, was the best guide I have ever had for any tour, ever. He was very conscious of our safety and looked after each person, without being smothering. He was sensitive to each of our personal interests. If we saw a snake he would make sure to point it out to the snake lovers. For the bird lovers, there was an endless number of birds that he pointed out and named. He was extremely knowledgeable and showed pride in his country. He made it clear that we could make decisions about what to do and not to do during our trip. If we were tired and chose to rest during a lecture, we could do so without rebuke. As a tour guide, Jimmy is simply the bet!

Marsha
(5)

Our trip to Costa Rica was even better than we expected it would be. We traveled from the Caribbean to the Pacific and saw so much in between. We loved the rain forest and the birds, monkeys, sloths and other wildlife. One day we just sat quietly in a boat on the river and listened to all that was going on in the forest. Wonderful. I would do it again for sure.

Sheila
(5)

I found this trip very educational and a fun way to learn the history and current state of Costa Rica. The only change I can think of would be to update the list of clothing etc. While realizing that it was probably a "One list fits all programs", I and some of my fellow travelers found we packed many things that we did not need on this particular trip. For future travelers I would say Less is More.

Sunil
(5)

This program is in the top 3 of my road scholar adventures. It is an excellent introduction to the natural history of Costa Rica, covering most major life zones including both the Pacific and Carribean regions. Our guide, Pedro B. was outstanding: he was extremely knowledgeable about the natural history, cultural history and agriculture of Costa Rica. He was also great at spotting birds and other wildlife and ensured that everyone got a chance to observe them. The guest lecturers included a number of excellent talks on the ecology of the rainforest, history of conservation, as well as personal history. The program was very diverse with a major emphasis on wildlife, but also included human history, agriculture, school visits, rafting, as well as time on the beach. Finally, I felt good knowing that my money went to support people and organizations that are committed to sustainability and protecting the rainforest. Even though there are programs dedicated to bird watching in Costa Rica, I would still recommend this program to people interested in birds, because there are a lot of opportunities for bird watching and this program is one of the few that includes Tortuguero, which is a great park for observing wildlife. Plus you get to learn about other aspects of the country. For those interested in independent travel, the program introduces you to a number of locations that you may to wish to go back to on your own. We took three days at the end of the program to go back to one of the locations and take tours with the local guides. This added a lot to our overall experience.

Leslie
(4)

This was a wonderful trip and focusing on the natural wonders of the country including bird watching, animal finding, eco-systems, biodiversity, agriculture, etc. William Sanchez was a good naturalist. There is a lot of bird watching but that is not the exclusive focus of the trip. A devoted bird watcher would want to pick the birding specific tour offered by Road Scholar. We really enjoyed the cultural stops and field trips to alpaca farm, textile industry, coffee plantation, heart of palm plantation & restraurant (best meal of trip) and cocoa plantation. The evening lectures by guest and the commentary about politics, education, history, etc. given by the naturalist on long bus segments were very well done and extremely educational. We liked this trip because we saw so much of the country from coast to coast and all the various eco-systems. There were long bus trip days getting between places but there does not seem to be a way around that if you want to cover a lot of ground so you see more than just a small area of the country. We only had night rain and one light morning rain during our 2 week trip in Feb. The walking is not strenuous and usually each outing is 45 minutes to 2 hours. Not all of the trails are paved so there are uneven surfaces. The lodging was upscale and in lush, interesting settings.

Robert
(5)

We cover so many different environment and regions and with the great guides and lectures I really go to know, understand, and better appreciate this amazing county. They introduce us to people that taught us so much and were so proud of their county you felt you got a taste of their life.

Marian
(5)

Wonderful program, well organized. Very busy schedule, saw fabulous birds and animals. Wonderful insight from local speakers. Highly recommend

Parker
(5)

Costa Rica may be a small country, but it has tremendous biodiversity; this Road Scholar program permits one to understand why there is such diversity and see many examples of it.

Jane
(5)

It was better than I could dream!

Gerald
(5)

If you like getting out in nature, specifically rain forests environs, and you like viewing animals in their natural habitat, and you like experiencing the culture of a different country - this tour is a great one.

Robert
(5)

Great trip! Lots to learn about one of the more beautiful parts of the world. Small group and excellent guide made for a very enjoyable program.

Anne
(5)

Excellent program. Christian was a great guide - very insightful, informative and humorous. The trip attendees were an extraordinary group of people. Highly recommend this trip.

Stephen
(5)

A true eco-tourism experience! This equatorial country has so very much to offer - from Atlantic to Pacific coasts, with mountains in the middle. Rain forests that are so lush, full of fantastic colors, & less dense, less colorful, drier but still beautiful still beautiful forests. There is nowhere in this country, outside of the cities, that does not offer a vast variety of wildlife & flora! The birds & vegetation especially are overwhelmingly colorful - that's stated by someone who is not a birder or gardener! I couldn't get enough of our forest walks! And the tour included adventures other than flora & fauna sightings, like white-water rafting & river & coach rides that exposed us to the vast beauties of the land.

Carol
(5)

This tour is an excellent adventure to see the REAL Costa Rica.

Elizabeth
(1)

This tour needs to be completely reorganized to reflect conditions present at this time. The roads are very bad and require participants to spend hours on a bus on bad roads. The bus used does not have a bathroom and that requires special bathroom stops at places that charge $1 US dollar to use the toilet per person paid by the user. The bus also does not have a refrigerated compartment where bottles of water could be stored. Instead, the guide buys 3-gallon bottles of water and refills participants own bottles with the stale warm water. On my tour in Cuba we had a fully equipped comfortable bus and we were supplied with two bottles of cold water from the refrigerator every day. One would think, in Costa Rica, the same would be used. I was very disappointed with many aspects of this tour.

Nina
(5)

Road Scholar is the way to travel if your goal is to learn about the country you are visiting. My experience on this first trip with Road Scholar has convinced me to do it again when I travel. I want my travel to be a learning experience and not just relaxing at a resort.

Mark
(5)

This trip provided fantastic wildlife viewing opportunities. It was my first time in these habitats so everything was new and different.

Ben
(5)

Great trip. Excellent Gui but the schedule is filled with things de and driver made us feel safe and aware of what we were seeing at all times. Guide (William Suarez) was excellent. Beautiful Scenery, very good accommodations and food. This is a very busy trip. It covers a wide range of Costa Rica in a fairly short time. There is little free time but the schedule is filled with things you will be glad you saw later.

Judy
(5)

It was interesting to experience 3 very different climatic zones. It's important to bring binoculars because the animals are often far away and the birds in flight. This tour was a very enjoyable experience and Cristian a superb guide.

Carolyn
(5)

I really enjoyed my trip to Costa Rica with Road Scholars, it was just what I wanted, a little bit of each part of the country with 2 nights in each location to balance against time on the bus. Every day was packed with outdoor activities, presentations by local experts, and both nature and culture. The birds and wildlife we saw were amazing, and we visited several national parks, those were important for me. Our lodging was very high end, places I would not normally be able to afford, that was a treat.

Patricia
(5)

Exceeded my expectations! Our skilled guide helped us see so much more wildlife than we would have seen by ourselves. So relaxing having Road Scholar handle all the details.

S. Janet
(5)

This trip is terrific. The lecture on biodiversity when we arrived set the stage for what we were to see, and understand, in the days to come. The diversity of flora and fauna was amazing. The guide Roger was knowledgable and experienced. Not only was he was able to identify birds, monkeys and plants, he knew where to look for them. There were many hours of travel on this trip but worth the effort.

Truda
(5)

This trip is all it is described Wonderful ! Enjoyed the entire time.

Donald
(5)

Costa Rica is an amazing country and we experienced it with a great tour guide who was able to present Costa Rica from one side of the country to the other. It was a marvelous trip and our group left as friends and the trip seemed over far too early. Thank you Roger and our thanks to the wonderful people of Costa Rica.

Deb
(5)

This program was informative and fun. I met many interesting people and learned about biodiversity. Our guide and driver were excellent. The lecturers were well informed and gave interesting talks. I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to experience a different culture and learn about nature.

This tour gave me an "eyes-on" experience of ecosystems, biodiversity, rain forests, biological corridors, sustainable agriculture, and cooperative sustenance. This is definitely a tour for those interested in saving our planet.

Ralph

If you ever wanted to see tropical rain forests flora, fauna and volcanoes ....this is the trip to take in the winter.

Paul
(5)

If you've never been to Costa Rica (and even if you have) this program is a wonderful eye-opening experience that will give you a taste of the country you would never get on your own.

Elizabeth
(5)

WOW! Thank you Road Scholar for giving us the time of our lives. We went outside our comfort zone and always felt safe. Pura Vida!

Debbie
(5)

This program is THE program for experiencing Costa Rica. So many good people everywhere. The amount of wildlife is phenomenal,& our group leader Erick Guzman made sure we saw much of it. It's a trip you dislike seeing come to an end.... many wonderful experiences, forever catalogued in numerous images & videos. Great memories. And I may be back!

Randin
(5)

This was one of the best trips I have ever been on! Costa Rica was beautiful. The people were so friendly and had so much pride in their country. The trip was full of great adventures - beautiful birds, white water rafting, hanging bridges, a crocodile safari, and the lodging was wonderful. A great guide and bus driver. Better than I expected!!!

Robert
(5)

This is the second Costa Rica program that I have had the pleasure to experience. I also attended "The Taste of Costa Rica" program. Both were excellent.

Jane
(5)

The trip to Costa Rica was a not-to-be missed learning experience. The country is not lush like Hawaii but the diversity is incredible. You may only see one or two of a particular plant, animal or bird but that makes what you do see even more inspiring. And the people are justifiably proud and very welcoming.

Sharon
(5)

The website is easy to use and provides needed information when trying to decide what trip to take.

Maryanne
(5)

This trip is very informative and fun. Activity level is less strenuous than listed except for the hanging bridges.

Danny
(5)

The Best of Costa Rica, Exploring Natural Wonders, in January was a perfect time of year to visit Costa Rica, coast to coast. You will experience the food, culture, exotic birds, and animals, and history of this compact and complex country. Our guide was knowledgeable, personable and helpful, and the accommodations were very nice. The physical terrain is beautiful and able to be hiked with a minimum of effort. The wide range of natural forests, plants, and animal life we experienced in the time we were there was amazing. I was not an avid bird watcher before, but now I see why people visit this country just for that reason alone. North Americans who care for the environment and beautiful places share much with in common with Costa Rica.

David
(5)

Wonderful trip: nice accommodations, plentiful good food, fascinating ecodiversity and history, welcoming friendly people. The guide was knowledgeable , detailed, funny, organized, and a nice guy who enjoys his job and really knows what he's doing.

Poul

I would rate this trip 10 stars if I could! Each day was better than the last, with so many fabulous animals, birds, plants and beautiful locations to explore and learn about at each stop. Our guide and bus driver were both outstanding and made me feel very safe. The food and accommodations ranged from great to exceptional. My only regret? It ended too soon!

This was our first group tour and we were not confident that we would like the structure of the group tour. We found this tour to exceed our wildest hopes. Jorge, our group leader, made the program a huge success and the fellow travelers on the trip were wonderful. We gained much more from the tour than if we had gone on our own. We are now convinces that this is the way to travel.

Fabulous trip if you like monkeys, sloths, iguanas, morning bird walks, crocodiles, white water rafting, crossing hanging bridges in the rainforest, volcanos, beaches, hot springs...!

Costa Rica "Natural Wonders" tour packed in as much as possible and provided a great overview of the tropical in 12 days. I couldn't have asked for anything better!

This should be a must tour visit for any traveler wanting to learn about countries in Central America. Friendly absolute helpful local people. Great food, and great road scholar staff and community. Rodney Benson, Flushing, NY.

The program was perfect in every way. Logistics were handled seamlessly and I felt safe and relaxed in the care of our group leader and our bus driver. Costa Rica delivered fascinating birds and wildlife continuously throughout the trip. Our leader was an excellent spotter and inclusive; he excelled in helping everyone in the group find the elusive creature darting amongst the leaves. We saw spider, howler, and capuchin monkeys, sloths, coatimundi, agouti, crocodiles, iguanas, morpho butterflies, 8 different types of herons, hummingbirds, numerous colorful songbirds, curassow, crested guans, toucans, trogons, parrots, parakeets, macaws, and many others. Many of the meals were traditional Costa Rican, with grilled meat or fish, beans, rice, salad, and good vegetable choices. Fresh fruit and juices were available at every meal—the pineapple was exquisite and even the bananas were special. Sharing the beauty and awe with like-minded people enhanced the experience. I wish everyone could do this trip!

This trip was a wonderful immersion into how Costa Rica developed from the results of volcanic eruptions along with plate shifts due to tectonic activity and becoming a land bridge that allowed both humans and animals to migrate between North and South America. We also were educated about the exploration by navigators from Europe and the riches of coffee, bananas and other minerals for trade, the stripping of the rain forests for use by cattle ranches and expansion of plantation farming and then the realization of the important purpose of what the rain forests offered. It was that discovery that has allowed the rain forest to return and what ecotourism and the biodiversity of Costa Rica makes it a unique and worthwhile place to visit.

Wonderful experience! On the go and learning new and exciting things every day, rain or shine! Good food and the accommodations made you feel one with nature. Our group size was 17 and it was perfect and we enjoyed each other's company. Our guide Javier was fantastic and our driver Hector was a hoot! They really made us feel part of the Costa Rican culture.

This program is interactive. Some hiking...some bus riding...very welcoming for solo travelers. It's hot and super rainy. Not near as many bugs as I thought there would be. For sure a winner!!!

This is the most fabulous trip. Lots of activity, just enough downtime...beach, ahhh!! lovely! The guides were superb! Pedro B. is passionate about his country and what a wealth of knowledge, birds, wildlife, plant-life, he knew a lot about everything. The food just could not have been any better. Healthy foods rule in Costa Rica, lots of beautiful fruit, and seafood galore! The green turtles in September were 'out' on our night walk, at least 5 of them, huge...be careful on the beach, mud and holes to stumble into...bring your sticks, worth the tricky walk to see five foot long/four wide sea turtles laying 150 eggs. Just awe inspiring, and the monkeys, oh my...mama's crossing over the river making a bridge in the branches across the river for baby to cross. And crocs, yes crocs in the river. You will not be sorry you went on this trip. Hiked about 4 miles several days, great exercise, some exertion, but lots of help from the guides for those who need it. 2nd Road Scholar trip and will do more based on this one.

This is a trip for the nature lovers and people who love to hike through the woods. We saw gorgeous flowers and beautiful animals and birds not seen at home. The trails were not hard to walk on and some of the safaris were by boat.

Dear Road Scholar, My wife and I each separately reviewed our trip soon after returning. However, looking at your listed reviews today (5 months after our trip), I am puzzled and surprised not to see our reviews, or any reviews from anyone from our Group's trip. How do you explain that?
