I had a wonderful time on the Rose Parade trip and loved that it included getting to decorate some of the beautiful floats a few days before the parade. Also the trip allowed for up close viewing after the parade - so it was very much a 'hands on' experience.....just what I hoped for. The organizational skills were first rate for all our days there, and the hotel (Woodland Hills Hilton) was very accommodating and comfortable. If I had to add one suggestion, it would be to mention what some of the options are for getting from the airports (in my case LAX) to the hotel. I spent quite a bit of time on this research and found that the Bus line called 'Flyaway' got me as far as Van Nuys and Uber service from that bus station to the hotel. Another option (that is very reasonable) is called 'Primetime Shuttle'. Perhaps there is some rule about not promoting one service over another. Many thanks to our group leader, Terri Ross, and the Road Scholar organization for a very memorable trip!!

The Tournament of Roses tour was a wonderful experience for me. The opportunity to help with the preparation of materials for the floats and seeing the floats in progress was so interesting. Bandfest and Floatfest were great. The seats we had for the actual parade were just right.

For anyone who enjoys parades and/or has fond memories of marching in a band, color guard, or majorettes/dancers, this program is for you. The Rose Parade is a spectacle with a fascinating history and culture that I was not aware of. I just wanted to see floats covered in flowers. Road Scholar does a great job in organizing a variety of events before, during, and after the Parade for you to learn about this event. Included was a trip to the Getty Center which has amazing architecture, scenery, gardens, and art. Over 700,000 people attend the Rose Parade, so having Road Scholar do the planning, driving, and parking is a great bonus. We had prime seats for the parade. Road Scholar has been planning this trip for many years, so they know all the ins and outs of efficiently preparing you and getting you to all the events to maximize your enjoyment. The hotel was very comfortable and offered reduced (Road Scholar rates) before and after the event, which I took advantage of.

This was my first Road Scholar trip and it was awesome. The Rose Parade experience was a once in a lifetime opportunity. The information provided and guidance throughout the event was priceless. This trip was full of opportunities that most people never experience or even know exist. Our hotel was excellent. The bus/coach transportation was comfortable and met the needs of the trip. Our group guides were very patient and kept us up-to-date on the changes or information that we needed to know. Thank you Road Scholar for providing this wonderful opportunity.

The Rose Parade program was wonderful! Led by friendly, energetic & informative staff we had the full experience- float decorating (enveloped with the scent and sight of millions of flowers), lectures about the organization and history that makes the whole thing possible, THE PARADE, and floatfest to explore the floats up close after the parade. Thanks Road Scholar!

I simply loved the Road Scholar Rose Parade experience. Our charming and enthusiastic group leader, Terri Ross, is superb at her job and was truly dedicated to delivering a great Rose Parade adventure to every person in our group. Road Scholar clearly has a stellar reputation with the hotels and venues for the whole Tournament of Roses event package, resulting in fabulous experiences for participants - including a VIP time slot for viewing the floats on the day after the parade. And what a treat it was to help decorate those floats! We really felt appreciated for our efforts, which included cutting roses and seating them in vials, seed/rice/fruit/flower and vegetable glueing, orchid stringing and more. Lovely people. Top notch orchestration of the myriad moving parts. I have only great things to say about this experience. I am already signing up for another Road Scholar program.

The is a wonderful trip for anyone interested in the Rose Parade!! To be able to assist in anyway possible with the floats was a once in a lifetime experience. It was fasinating to be able to see the floats in the process of being assembled then to see them during the parade and the following day at Float Fest. Absolutely wonderful!! This is a strenuous trip requiring the ability to be up and going early and to be active all day. I happily give this trip 5 stars!!

In order of excitement, the Rose Parade itself, followed by up close viewing of the floats during Float Fest and then helping behind the scenes on the floats themselves. I was very pleased with all aspects of the trip except food and beverages and weather :(. For the most part it was cafeteria food. New Years' Eve dinner and dessert was very pleasant. The soup for lunch was all the left overs combined together from the day before. Dessert was from the night before with a combo sauce we believe was a combination of left over fruit from previous days pureed together. The chicken wrap was nothing more than a tortilla, chicken, and wimpy lettuce; no condiments at all. And often, coffee was in short supply and the coffee bar wasn't even available on the last morning. Loved Colleen who was in charge of the "orange " group. Best, Lori Steinmetz

So interesting to learn about how the Rose Parade comes together, and its many aspects. Particularly enjoyed seeing and helping with the behind-the-scenes work on putting the floats together, and then being able to see the floats up close the day after. Due to the size and location, this was not my typical RS experience, but provided the unique educational and experiential activities that I value from Road Scholar!

This "bucket list" Road Scholar program was everything we hoped for, and more. Cutting bikini yellow roses for the Louisiana float was tiring but a real pleasure. The lectures were interesting, especially the one by the former Rose Queen. The museums were fascinating and the Band Fest event was excellent, even in the rain. The Rose Parade is a marvel. We didn't have to worry about driving or tickets or where to go. The hotel was very comfortable and the meals filling and tasty. As usual, the guides were cheerful, gracious, and knowledgeable. Note: This program has a large number of participants, although it is broken up into groups of 30+, and most of the activities start very early. We attended the Rose Bowl Game on our own, which was marvelous, but challenging to get to and much more challenging to get out of.

Enjoyed the trip and program over all. It was fun and I may go on another one at some time. Pink leader was great. Areas for improvement- 1. Volunteering was for a Lutheran group. Should have been for a general non profit not religious. Had I known this probably wouldn't have signed up. 2. While volunteering the group we were supporting did not provide water or snacks but sold them. Really??! They benefited from our labor and could at least have provided water. But evangelical materials were provided at no cost. 3. Meals provided were ok but boring. Chicken almost every day lunch and dinner. Breakfast was the same each day, scrambled eggs, sausage, fried potatoes. Someone with a clue needs to work with catering on more variety. 4. Transportation to hotel. Either use hotels with airport shuttles or provide shuttle from the FlyAway depot to hotel. Other transport was expensive or hard to get.

Simple questions.. Is the Program going on?? etc when wil the Discussion Boards open? Who and how many on my groups ? Difference in Hotel.. Location to events and COSTS ! ONCE the information packet came out I felt much more "settled".. The SAME is true for our next program (Spain and Portugal ) .. I FULLY realize you dont have magic ball with Covid and international laws, but please just write and keep me focused and motivated.. Just reassure me you are following the situation.. a "NEWSBRIEF".. Thanks.. See you soon. Nicole did a wonderful job in pulling all these threads together!!!! Thank you NICOLE

This trip was everything I wished for and more. Anyone can go to the Rose Parade, but only with Road Scholar will you get to be a part of the parade. Our first day we were able to work on a self-built float. We actually put lemon leaves on a part of the float. When the float came down the street, we were so proud. They also sold cards for $2 that entitled you to have someone's name inside the float. We got to see Band Fest, meet a former queen, have a discussion with the men who are in charge of the "White Suiter" volunteers, and hear how the floats are judged from an expert on roses . We spent an afternoon at the Getty Center and had a visit from mini therapy horses who marched in the parade. The final day we were able to view the floats up close. We had wonderful bleacher seats for the parade. Every minute we felt that we were a part of the parade. We just loved this experience. The coordination effort needed to pull this off is huge. We had 412 Road Scholars, in two hotels. We were divided into about 11 groups and everything ran like clockwork. We were very impressed.

What a terrific time I had with 400+ of my dearest friends! I was in the Violet group of 42, and Teri was a great leader. We had to be up and out the door by 6, and we were kept busy. We helped build a float, and ours won the Sweepstakes award in the Parade. We enjoyed Bandfest, and learned how the judging is done, and learned about the organization, and got to hear from a past queen. On our “ off day” we enjoyed the Getty museum. It’s hard to believe this experience was only 4 days!

I love my RS trips as I explained to my family - a six days trip I don't worry about driving, cooking, washing a dish or even making a bed! The Hilton was a dream with fluffy pillows on top of large king size beds. But you don't get to sleep in on this trip (luckily I still work so getting up at 5 AM is easy for me) with good coffee & tasty meals with sweet desserts that was a daily treat! All 475 of us strangers organized in color coded teams as we went to the float barns, the BandFest, a delightful speaker who teaches the judges, & a lovely lunch I reserved at the Getty Museum with my new friends. You had a designated ticket on the Parade route with a handy restroom behind you so you don't feel overwhelmed. I found each day was a great learning experience with our fabulous Leader Jenny! Thank you RS!

This was the best trip we ever took. We loved getting to decorate floats, meet a variety of participants in the parade (float builders, float judge, former Rose Queen, "White Suiter" volunteers, equestrians), and getting to see the floats up close. We have a whole new appreciation for the parade we've loved all along!

I was apprehensive about being a solo traveler but always wanted to see the Rose parade. Road Scholar matched me with a wonderful room mate and made this the most unforgettable trip of my lifetime. Thanks for letting me check this off my bucket list. On to my next adventure.

Since the Rose Parade is presented only once each year, our group of participants was larger than I would normally prefer. Seeing how well it was handled by the Road Scholar staff, I would expect an even greater experience with a smaller group. I am looking forward to another "tour" & would recommend Road Scholars very highly.

The Rose Parade experience was WONDERFUL! The chance to help decorate a float was very educational and loads of fun. It enhanced the actual Parade experience. I will never watch the Rose Parade on TV in the same light again.
