Grab Your Gals: Celebrating Love & Sisterhood on Women-Only Adventures

At a Glance:
  • Galentine’s Day is an unofficial holiday honoring female friendships, usually celebrated around Valentine’s Day during the month of February.
  • A great way to honor female friendships is by planning an adventure with other women, and Road Scholar’s women-only programs are the perfect way to do so.
  • Learn more about what Road Scholar’s women-only programs are, why other women love them and get inspired for your next adventure with some suggestions!

Did you know women make up 68% of Road Scholars — and 85% of our solo travelers? That’s a sisterhood worth celebrating.

This sisterhood goes hand-in-hand with the theme of Galentine’s Day, an unofficial holiday usually celebrated around Valentine’s Day to honor female friendships and the special significance they hold. Whether you’re going out to dinner or on a whirlwind adventure together, observing Galentine’s Day can be a fun way to recognize those special women in your life.

One of our favorite ways to celebrate Galentine’s Day? Planning a women-only adventure with your group of gals!

What Are Women-Only Adventures?

Road Scholar’s women-only adventures are just what the name implies — programs designed exclusively for women and often featuring female instructors and/or a focus on women’s studies in the area you’re exploring.

There’s a reason these programs resonate with so many women. They offer:

  • The comfort of exploring alongside other women
  • The inspiration of hearing the perspective of your other female travelers and instructors
  • The opportunities to make new female friends in your shared learning space
  • The camaraderie and structure of a group learning environment

Sounds like a perfect Galentine’s Day adventure!

What is so Special About Women-Only Adventures?

Don’t take it from us — here’s what participants have to say.

“I have experienced all of these magical elements on other Road Scholar programs — the inclusivity, sense of belonging and fast and deep friendships formed. But I truly believe that those qualities were present on an even deeper level on this program because we experienced it with a group of women. I hope every woman has the chance to experience the special magic that occurs when you travel with women.”

— Kelsey Knoedler Perri, PR Director for Road Scholar, on Signature City Québec for Women

“I learned new things about healing arts that I can apply and am inspired to learn more back at home. The group of women was fantastic, welcoming and comfortable for me as a solo traveler.”

— Judy from Dayton, Ohio, Road Scholar Class of ’17 on Sedona's Healing Arts For Women: Yoga, Qi Gong, Ayurveda and More

“This program was a mother-daughter adventure for me. It was wonderful. We loved Santa Fe. The food and cultural experiences were a perfect introduction to this part of the country. Being with a group of women was fun and an education of its own. The Group Leader, Elizabeth, was a delight. I highly recommend this program.”

— Elizabeth from Albemarle, N.C., Road Scholar Class of ’09 on Finding Your Bliss in the Land of Enchantment for Women

Many women join these adventures solo — even those in relationships — simply because their interests, schedules or travel styles differ. It’s a joyful way to learn independently or alongside friends.

Where Can I Start?

Whether you’re traveling with friends or joining on your own, Women-Only Learning Adventures offer meaningful ways to connect and learn. Choose from active programs on the Appalachian Trail, coastal explorations in the Galápagos, vibrant city stays or quiet retreats in nature.

We also have a collection of blog posts about Road Scholar women who have headed out on explorations of their own — read about other women-only adventures and get inspired! Or get talking on the Women of Road Scholar Facebook Group, and perhaps plan an adventure together.

When you’re traveling with other women who love learning and exploration as much as you do, every day can be a Galentine’s Day celebration!
