  • Expert-Led, Hassle-Free Exploration: Road Scholar expertly handles all planning and logistical details, allowing participants to focus on learning in a secure and welcoming environment alongside exceptional Group Leaders and like-minded peers.
  • A Commitment to the Learning Community: Dedicated to the Road Scholar mission, Prue actively gives back through annual gifts and support for Caregiver Grants, helping to provide much-needed relief and educational travel opportunities to others.

Prue B. has never let distance keep her from the things she loves. Born in England, Prue met her husband Henry in France, and they married in 1968. They lived on campus at Stanford University, where he founded the Graduate Program in Documentary Film and Video. His role took them around the world before learning about Road Scholar from colleagues. Together, they enjoyed many learning adventures as a couple.

They embarked on their first program — a small ship voyage along the coasts of Venice and Dalmatia — in 2003. “It was a wonderful experience,” says Prue. “We decided to stick with Road Scholar because the Group Leaders were excellent educators and the fellow participants were nice. I appreciated Road Scholar working out the plans and details — it was nice to have a mother hen there with us,” says Prue.

Going Solo

After Henry passed in 2014, Prue, a writer, traveled solo to the Galápagos, journeyed down the Amazon River through Peru, mingled with penguins in Antarctica, hiked 20,000 steps a day in Ireland and explored the Canadian Rockies, among other places. In 2018, she traveled to Botswana with her daughter, where they gazed upon the Big Five.

Most recently, Prue joined Road Scholar for the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January of this year, bringing her total number of learning adventures to 50. Next, she’s planning on The Best of Alaska’s National Parks: From Denali to Kenai, The Best of the Mountain Kingdoms: Tibet, Nepal and Bhutan, Switzerland by Rail and a Great Lakes voyage!

“I’m very grateful that Road Scholar is here for me,” she says. “I can travel without doing the work, everyone is congenial and I feel confident and secure with my Group Leader.” Prue supports Road Scholar through yearly gifts to help where it’s needed most. “I also support Caregiver Grants so caregivers can get some relief.”
