President and CEO
James Moses serves as the president and chief executive officer of Road Scholar, the world leader in lifelong learning since 1975. He has held the position since 2002. Under his leadership, Road Scholar has become a leading educational adventure organization, with nearly 300 employees and 5,500 programs offered worldwide. Moses began his career at Road Scholar in 1979 as registrar. He has held several leadership positions, including chief operating officer, senior vice president of programs and vice president of international programs. Moses holds a bachelor of arts degree in English and psychology from Boston College.
Vice President, Marketing
Steve August is vice president of marketing at Road Scholar. August joined Road Scholar in 2014 and has held various roles in marketing. He oversees digital marketing, catalog circulation and campaign analytics. Prior to joining the organization, he held managerial and executive roles at Staples, Brookstone, and Sharper Image. August holds a bachelor’s in economics from St. Anselm College and an MBA in marketing from the University of New Hampshire.
Chief Operating Officer
Eric Bird is Chief Operating Officer at Road Scholar. Prior to joining Road Scholar, Bird served as CIO at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design; previously he has held positions at the Harvard Kennedy School, and the RAND Corporation. He holds a bachelor’s from Yale University and a master’s in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
Vice President of Finance
Stuart Burke is vice president of finance at Road Scholar. He has held the position for five years. Burke joined Road Scholar in 1991 and has held the roles of assistant controller, controller and associate vice president of finance. Prior to joining the organization, he worked in the audit group for Price Waterhouse Coopers. He holds a bachelor’s in business administration from the University of Vermont. He earned his CPA in 1988 and a not-for-profit management certificate at Northeastern University in 1998.
Chief Program Officer
Maeve Hartney is vice president of programs at Road Scholar. She has held this position since 2014. Hartney joined Road Scholar in 1998 as manager of program assessment and evaluation. In 2000, she was named senior manager and in 2002 director, program services. In 2006, Hartney was promoted to associate vice president, special programs. She was previously at Ernst & Young and Saga Holidays. Hartney holds a degree in business administration from Limerick Institute of Technology.
Senior Vice President, Tuition & Revenue Management
Mary Marks has held the title of senior vice president of tuition & revenue management and program operations at Road Scholar since February 2016. She joined the organization in 2015 as contractor, process improvement. Previously, Marks was senior vice president of finance and worldwide controller at Grand Circle Corp. She has an associate’s degree in accounting from Mass Bay Community College and earned an MBA at Simmons University.
Chief Information Officer
John McCarthy is Chief Information Officer at Road Scholar. McCarthy has been involved in information technology for nearly 20 years in a variety of leadership and hands-on roles. Prior to joining Road Scholar in 2002, McCarthy worked in IT consulting for Grant Thornton LLP and Hitachi Consulting primarily focused on project management and enterprise application implementations. McCarthy holds a bachelor of science degree in management information systems from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Lowell Partridge is the chief financial officer of Road Scholar. Partridge oversees accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting and analysis; tax and regulatory compliance; cash and investment management; and insurance and risk management, including mitigation strategies relating to currency risk. Prior to joining Road Scholar in 1998, he oversaw internal audit departments for two financial services firms and was an audit manager and CPA for an international public accounting firm. Partridge earned a bachelor of science in accounting from Rochester Institute of Technology in New York.
Senior Planned and Major Gifts Officer and Advisor to the President
Mike Zoob serves as the senior planned and major gifts officer and advisor to the president. Zoob became the organization’s first employee in 1977 and led its evolution from a social movement to a registered independent not-for-profit organization. Over the ensuing years, he was instrumental in securing grants from marquee companies including ARCO and Kellogg Foundation, which helped establish Road Scholar as a national leader in older adult education. During his tenure he held positions as senior vice president, counselor and vice president of fundraising, catalog and marketing.
Zoob is a graduate of Trinity College (Hartford) and Harvard Law School.
