Tranquil and beautiful, Pilgrim Pines Conference Center gently curves around the head of quiet Swanzey Lake in New Hampshire’s Monadnock region, where quintessential New England is preserved in quaint towns, covered bridges, and tree-laden hills. This faith-based retreat and conference center is designed as a peaceful setting where groups can relax and be renewed in mind, body and spirit, and has hosted Road Scholar programs since 1988. Nearby can be found traditional maple sugar houses, cross-country ski trails, the college town of Keene, New Hampshire, and the hiking trails of Mount Monadnock.
The Pilgrim Pines Conference Center provides comfortable but basic accommodations in several lodges on its 125-acre lakeside site. Guest rooms have private baths, table, a chair or chairs, closet and lamps, along with a heating unit and fans for the summer season. Some units have kitchenettes and a small dining area. Road Scholars often gather in the Meeting House for lectures, presentations and musical events, as well as in cozy fireside meeting rooms.
Recreational activities, depending on the season, may include the compact nine-hole golf course, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, swimming, basketball and ice skating.
The Retreat Difference | The unique experience at a Road Scholar Retreat — this Retreat, too — includes opportunities for light morning exercise, meeting a community member for insight into local life, an authentic farm-to-table or locally sourced meal, and a live performance or event.
