Afternoon: 2–5 PM: Check-in at Hidden Valley office. 5 PM: Wine and cheese reception. Meet your fellow participants in a wine and cheese reception in the Fireside Room. Drink California wines or juices and savor brie and crackers.
Dinner: 6 PM: Welcome Dinner & Orientation. Like all meals at Hidden Valley, dinner is served buffet-style and presents selections from the "salad bowl of the universe" as well as tastefully prepared entrees made in our own kitchen. All baked goods are also prepared here on campus.
Evening: Orientation with Coordinator.
Breakfast: 8:30 AM: Breakfast. Breakfast is prepared fresh each day in our campus kitchen and served buffet style. Warm from the oven baked goods accompany the normal breakfast offerings of oatmeal, eggs, grits, fruit, etc.
Morning: Members of the Festival join with Road Scholar students to review the history of Jazz through lecture and live performance.
Lunch: 12:00 PM Lunch time and an opportunity to enjoy wonderful soups, sandwich makings . . . all prepared in our kitchen and served by the staff that's been with us for over 20 years.
Afternoon: Teaching from the keyboard, Hidden Valley's music faculty introduce us the music, composers, and history of American Ragtime. Later on, we'll savor the wonderful wines of the area and learn a bit about the history and business of wine through the eyes of a local winemaker.
Dinner: 6:00 PM Dinner is served (often accompanied by California wines) and features a buffet with copious greens (many from our own organic gardens) along with the entree.
Evening: An evening visit by Ogden Nash as he presents his famous light lyrical poetry and a discussion exploring his life and work.
Breakfast: 8:30 AM Breakfast.
Morning: Members of the Festival continue their review of jazz history and take a look at the performers for this year's festival.
Lunch: 12:00 PM: Lunch.
Afternoon: 2:00 Move to Merritt House Inn.
Dinner: Dinner on your own. Hidden Valley provides a $15 stipend for each meal not provided by the Merritt House while participants attend the festival. (Participants will attend the Patron's Lunch hosted by the festival on Saturday.) Venues are scattered throughout the downtown Monterey area where there are a variety of interesting restaurants to choose from.
Evening: Jazz Bash by the Bay begins. Stroll through downtown Monterey to one of the Bash's venues. Eight performance stages from beautiful ballrooms to theatre style to smaller venues, operate simultaneously.
Breakfast: A wonderful breakfast provided by the hotel in which we are staying.
Morning: Jazz Bash By The Bay
Lunch: Patron's Lunch: Gorgeous musical brunch in a nearby hotel with all Patrons of the Festival.
Afternoon: Jazz Bash continued.
Dinner: Dinner on your own.
Evening: Jazz Bash continued.
Breakfast: Breakfast at the hotel in which we are staying.
Morning: Jazz Bash By The Bay
Lunch: Lunch on your own.
Afternoon: 4:00 pm Return to Hidden Valley
Dinner: 6:00 pm Hidden Valley's kitchen staff prepares a delicious barbecue.
Breakfast: Farewell Breakfast & Graduation.
