Heceta Head Lighthouse/4-mi hike through forest & open beach

Activity note: For moderate hike: Morning hike to lighthouse is 1 mile over good path with steady incline. Afternoon hike is a loop through a rainforest, down a shore pine hillside, and along a flat beach. Afternoon hike is 4 miles total. Option 2: adds elevation and difficulty, another 2 miles

Breakfast: Hot breakfast served in the hotel meeting room.

Morning: There will be a short lecture on essential outdoor safety. Short 1-mile hike to historic lighthouse at Heceta Head. Option 2 hikes an additional 2 miles through the rainforest from the Heceta Head Lighthouse.

Lunch: Box lunch at Washburne Campground; sandwiches, cold cuts. chips, dessert and fruit.

Afternoon: 4-mile loop hike through coastal rainforest and along open beach. Naturalist guides will make stops to explore local flora and fauna.

Dinner: Buffet served in conference room.

Evening: Natural History of the Oregon Coast lecture.

Cape Perpetua trails/Ancient forests & ocean headland hikes

Activity note: Cape Perpetua hikes total 6.5 miles over optional steep rainforest ridges and along rocky shorelines. Trails are uneven and often rocky, but not loose or dangerous. Elevation gain is almost 1,000 feet.

Breakfast: Hot breakfast served in the hotel meeting room.

Morning: Field Trip north 25 miles to Cape Perpetua Natural & Scenic Viewing Area Spectacular headland with hike options. 7.5-mile old-growth forest and ocean headland hike with a naturalist guide or two 2-mile hikes with photographer & naturalist guides along ocean headland and up to ancient spruce tree.

Lunch: Box Lunch in Field

Afternoon: Continue hiking around Cape Perpetua. 7.5-mile hikers will continue walk with naturalist while short-hikers will continue their walk with photographer and naturalist guides. Following hikes the entire group will travel to the top of Cape Perpetua for a 1/2-mile walk along scenic vista trail.

Dinner: Dinner at resort.

Evening: Cultural discussion/ lecture re native history on Oregon Coast.

Tahkenitch Creek/Dunes: Great views of coastal wilderness.

Activity note: Moderate hike is about 4 miles; longer option is 6.7 miles. Some walking in sandy areas; all on maintained trails.

Breakfast: Breakfast served in conference room.

Morning: 2 Options of difficulty: both hikes at Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area; moderate option: 3-4 miles Option 2: 6.7 miles. Emphasis on western snowy plover endangered species; raptors (bald eagles, osprey, northern harriers, etc) and herons and egrets. Magnificent views along both trails.

Lunch: Box lunch in field

Afternoon: Continue hikes.

Dinner: Buffet served at the hotel in conference room.

Evening: Marine Mammals and the Stranding Network lecture/ slide show

Dune Ride/OR Dunes Ntl Recreation Area/Sweet Creek Trail

Activity note: Morning hikes through amazing rainforest alongside cascading stream with 13 waterfalls along 3-mile trail. Slight elevation gain on rocky trail.

Breakfast: Hot breakfast served in hotel meeting room.

Morning: Ride over the spectacular Oregon Dunes in a large dune buggy.Dunes can be as tall as 600'!!

Lunch: Picnic lunch in the field.

Afternoon: Incredible hike! Sweet Creek Trail; 2 miles and 13 cascading waterfalls along salmon stream in beautiful forest! This is one of the prettiest trails in the state! Enjoy a free time to walk on the beach, rest, or explore the coast on your own.

Dinner: Buffet dinner in the hotel meeting room.

Evening: Wrap-up gathering in hotel conference room.
