The hiking trip to Oregon Dunes was a beautiful experience. I am not usually a hiker but I enjoyed this trip. We hiked in the forest, on the beach, and on the dunes. Leaders were friendly and knowledgeable. Very enjoyable experience!

Just returned from this trip and can't say enough good about it. The leaders were excellent and I loved all the participants. The hikes were amazing - forest, beach, waterfalls, lighthouse. The dune buggy ride was FUN! Sign up and go!

An excellently managed program about a lesser known area. Three instructors who covered ecology & history have local in-depth knowledge and are congenial with it. I would put any program with them high on my list.

Another stellar program by Road Scholar! I was so invigorated by the physical and mental challenge; the breath-taking landscapes from the ocean, through the dune, into the old-growth forest; the knowledge imparted by our leader Collin and instructors John, Dick and "T;" and the fellowship of life-long learners! This challenging hiking trip is a winner.

My first RS trip exceeded my expectations. The leaders and the information they shared was great. I enjoyed getting to know folks from all over the US. I highly recommend RS for getting out and seeing the US.

Hiking the Central Oregon coast was a well organized program with a good mixture of activities. The program staff were extremely knowledgeable and easy to approach. The staff worked well together and liked each other. This program does accommodate some differences in activity level with a choice of hikes on two days.

If you enjoy hiking and want to explore and learn about the central Oregon coast and forests, this is a great program with fun and interesting leaders. At the Driftwood Shores you'll be at the ocean's edge with private balcony and full ocean view.

This was a wonderfully organized trip with a dedicated team of leaders. We stayed at the Driftwood Shores Resort where every room had an unobstructed view of the beautiful Oregon coastline. So relaxing to come back to each night. The evening presentations were excellent. The daily hikes were all different with a variety of choices/options. The last day's hike on Sweet Creek Trail was spectacular! We knew some of the leaders from a prior trip and were delighted to have them again for this trip -- engaging, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and totally entertaining -- guaranteed to make you laugh. Bear with the weather -- it's Oregon -- might have some clouds or some rain -- but the trip was still awesome.

Great program. Interesting hikes with well organized, friendly leaders. Hotel view awesome. But virtually NO phone or internet service! I would happily do another program with this group of leaders (Collin, John, Dick, and T). My best RS experience so far!

The Oregon Coast was spectacular and this trip deserves accolades. The hotel is well located, and the food was very good especially the final dinner. All of our guides and presenters were excellent. We learned a great deal about the dune, sea life, and tsunami. Highly recommended

This trip out of Florence Ore. showcases one of the most beautiful and diverse parts of the Oregon Coast. However, this trip definitely was not "Choose Your Pace." In spite of having four leaders for the group, and in spite of the trails being some of the easiest and well-traveled I have hiked with Road Scholar, this trip was the most restrictive hiking trip I have taken with any organized tour. If you are a hiker who likes to get a rhythm going and take in the experience in your own way, this is not the tour for you. With only a few short exceptions, you will be hiking behind someone's daypack at a slow pace and stopping multiple times on the trail. It is nice that listening devices are provided, but the talk was incessant...no time to have your own experience. At one point, I got called out for walking a few feet from the group to snap a photo of the caretaker's house at Heceta Head. Because I really enjoyed some of the people in our group, I stayed with the tour, but took one of the four hiking days to myself, hiking along the coast and having wonderful meals in Florence. The visitor centers provide a lot of information and maps, so most of the trails can easily be traveled on one's own. The tour leaders are very knowledgeable and the evening talks that I attended were interesting. However, once on the trail, I also like to have some quiet enjoyment of the surroundings.

This was our first Road Scholar trip and we were thoroughly delighted with it! Our guides were very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. Everyone in our group was also warm and friendly. I was glad we had a choice between shorter and longer hikes. The icing on the cake was that every room at our motel had an ocean view and the weather was gorgeous.

I live in Portland in the summer. I had no idea that Florence, Oregon had so many interesting places to see and learn about. I was so happy to have went on this road scholar trip and am now looking forward to seeing and learning about the Redwoods. My next trip with them.

What a terrific program! The group leader, Collin, was great as well as our instructors John, Dick and T. Wonderful way to learn about the history, geology, plants and marine life on the Oregon coast as we experienced a nice variety of hikes. The dune buggy ride was awesome too! You’ll fall in love with Oregon on this trip!

This was a very enjoyable trip. The hiking was pretty easy and you got to see a lot of beautiful scenery without expenting too much energy. The guides that accompanied the hikers were very knowledgeable in all of the subject areas that came mind; flora, fauna, geology, climate, cultural topics, etc. The two watch outs for this trip are that it is remote and a shuttle to/from the Eugene airport is pretty expensive, but cheaper than renting a car for a week. The other improvement area is to provide better food choices for breakfast. The program cost is not high and by charging an additional $100 or so, the food quality and choices could be significantly improved. The accomodations were very nice with every room having a seaside view. Very nice.

A fun trip with interesting and lovely geology, coasts and forests. Good choice of hiking options and a pleasant place to stay. The leaders were well chosen for their personalities and knowledge of the area and they sure seemed like they were having a good time as well - it was very enjoyable!
