End of Trip: 9:00 a.m. after breakfast; 10:00 a.m. lodge check-out.
Getting to the airport: The Tsawwassen to Duke Point (Nanaimo) route is most convenient for guests driving from Washington State or renting a car at the airport. The Horseshoe Bay to Departure Bay (Nanaimo) route is better for those spending time in Vancouver or a foot passenger taking the bus. Do not take the Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay (Victoria) route. Bus Service: Island Link Bus: (www.islandlinkbus.com) provides daily scheduled service between downtown Victoria, Nanaimo (Departure Bay ferry terminal) and Campbell River. Select the “Bus stop at CRCC, 401, 11th Ave” as the drop off/pickup location in Campbell River. Passengers must book online at least one day prior to travel. By Car: Whether arriving on Vancouver Island in Victoria or by BC Ferries in Nanaimo, driving on the island is straightforward. From Victoria take Hwy 1 (Trans Canada Hwy) northbound to Nanaimo (approx. 1 hr 40 min). Just south of Nanaimo, exit right following signs for Hwy 19. Drivers arriving at the Duke Point ferry terminal will merge onto Hwy 1 less than one mile before the exit for Hwy 19. Drivers arriving at the Departure Bay ferry terminal follow signs for Hwy 19 North. Follow signs for Campbell River (approx.1 hr 40 min). Stay on Hwy 19 until you reach the junction with Hwy 19A and Hwy 28. Turn left (west) onto Hwy 28 towards Gold River and Strathcona Park. Follow Hwy 28 for 41 km (25.5 mi). It is approx. 35 minutes driving time from this junction. IMPORTANT – You will leave cell reception five minutes outside of Campbell River. While generally reliable, Google Maps and Apple Maps have provided inaccurate directions outside of cell service. Stay on the paved highway and do not follow directions if they lead you onto gravel roads. SPL is the first business you will encounter so don’t worry if you don’t see any development along the way. Please contact Strathcona Park Lodge if you would like help or advice planning your travel, info@strathconaparklodge.com or (250) 286 3122.
