Afternoon:
1:00 p.m.: Welcome Meeting & Orientation with the Group Leader (15 minutes). 1:15 p.m.: Lecture – 1943: Total War (75 minutes). The tide had finally turned against the Axis powers by 1943. Yet Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan still possessed immense military forces and resources. How did the Allies plan to finally crush their enemies and liberate Europe and the Pacific, and how did the Axis plan to resist them? This lecture examines the strategic problems of 1943 and explains why it would be a year of “Total War.” 2:30 p.m.: Break (15 minutes). 2:45 p.m.: Introductions (15 minutes). 3:00 p.m.: Lecture – Food and Rations (75 minutes). A fascinating insight into eating habits during WWII. What were civilian rations like, and what did people think of their rations? 4:15 p.m.: Wrap-up with the Group Leader (15 minutes).

1:00 p.m.: Daily Review with Group Leader (5 minutes). 1:05 p.m.: Lecture – The Battle of Kursk (90 minutes). A deep dive into the biggest tank battle of the Second World War. How did Kursk change the balance of power on the Eastern Front? 2:35 p.m.: Break (15 minutes). 2:50 p.m.: Lecture – The Collapse of the Prospero Ring (90 minutes). A study of spies and espionage in war, this lecture tells the story of the Allied Prospero spy ring and how it collapsed in 1943. 4:20 p.m.: Wrap-up with the Group Leader (10 minutes).

1:00 p.m.: Daily Review with the Group Leader (5 minutes). 1:05 p.m.: Lecture – Operation Chastise: The Dambusters Raid, May 1943 (90 minutes). The Dambusters raid is one of the most famous actions of the Royal Air Force in the Second World War. This lecture takes a fresh look at this remarkable air raid and assesses its strategic importance. 2:35 p.m.: Break (15 minutes). 2:50 p.m.: Interactive Discussion and Q&A on all topics presented with Dr. Spencer Jones, Ruth Polling, Prof. Matthias Strohn, Dr. Kate Vigurs, Dr. Victoria Taylor (90 minutes). 4:20 p.m.: Program Wrap-up & Goodbyes (10 minutes).
