Overall a fantastic trip and experience! Very much enjoyed and appreciated our wonderful guides, lecturers and variety of experiences - especially during the Panama portion. I had been briefly to Costa Rica on the Caribbean side and also into/overnighting on a ship halfway into the Canal. I had few expectations about what I would see and experience other than knowing from 2 past RS trips that I would enjoy the small group and variety. We arrived in San Jose 2 days early to be prepared to get going with the group. San Jose was a bit disappointing in that unlike other Latin Colonial cities I've been in, there wasn't the same look or feel - something that was explained. The hotel was great as was the location. I didn't find the University tour that interesting. Great lectures at the hotel both days. Enjoyed the Coffee plantation tour and found the longer one in Panama even more interesting and engaging. As others will mention, the smaller bus was not as comfortable as past experiences, but understood the need for a smaller one given where we'd be going. I enjoyed the Savegre Area and birding especially, but caught a cold from another person on the bus. Loved the changes in elevation and scenery and uniqueness of the Danta Corcovado Lodge. My enjoyment impacted by a bad case of diarreah - something several others got along the way. I had to stay in bed for 1 1/2 days. The border crossing to Panama was complicated, but really the only thing bothersome on the whole trip - no fault of the guides. Issues with a smaller bus quickly resolved. Boquete charming and wonderful accomodations/experiences - especially the honey farm/butterfly tour!! Cubita hotel wonderful as were all of the cultural tours from there - really liked the variety! The Gamboa resort was wonderful as were the tours - especially the Embrea community and bird watching/time in the rainforest tower. Great tour of the Canal and loved the hotel/surroundings in historic Panama City. Great group

Every day is a new adventure in Costa Rica and Panama. Diverse activities of both nature and culture, great meals at authentic local restaurants, lovely hotels of different types of accommodation, and mostly a great crew of drivers and guides who were happy to share their passion for their home countries and knowledge of the natural world. Highly recommend this new program which holds many delightful surprises.

This was a pretty well done program. We went on the inaugural trip and it has some bugs that need to be worked out. If the issues, mostly related to transportation, get worked out it will be just fine. Please read the program descriptions. For instance one of the places we stayed at is in the jungle and has no AC. It was a wonderful experience but was kind of shocking to some of us.

This is the first time this trip has been held and I highly recommend it to Road Scholar customers who want to be physically and mentally challenged. Costa Rica and Panama are both very alike as well as different and there is much to learn about their cultures and wildlife on this trip.
