Homer's Odyssey tells the story of its eponymous protagonist Odysseus in the aftermath of the fall of Troy. Join archaeologist and educator Nick Stavrinides as he takes you back more than three thousand years in search of Odysseus, the resourceful seafarer whose perilous ten-year journey back to his island home of Ithaca transforms him into an archetypal modern hero navigating the unknown world with courage and cunning. In the last of five lectures, we will show how Odysseus' journey is marked by a profound sense of longing and nostalgia for his homeland, the island of Ithaca. His unwavering desire to return to his family and reclaim his rightful place as king highlights the enduring human yearning for home and belonging, a theme that resonates with modern audiences.
