5 stars It was a very good talk and Dr Sanderson gave different ways to look at doing something kind for others. it certainly got me to thinking of ways I can change my prosocial behavior. I'd like to bring this back to the basic interactions, within families and extended families. Many people have trouble interacting with strangers, although Dr Sanderson does not, but most people cannot get up to her level of ease of interacting with strangers . Since it is important to keep ties with families, so may I suggest fun, easy ways for doing such. 1) When you go on a trip, take a book of stamps or postcard stamps, and a list of addresses of family members, especially those you don't talk to much, and send them a surprise postcard. That opens up communication going forward. 2) Send text messages to younger family members and tell them who you are and maybe ask a question 3) Send short letters or cards to other family members. 4) make a phone call to older family members. Think of your own way of boosting a family member's day.

This was an excellent program. Catherine Sanderson is knowledgeable and spoke from academic research, not just anecdotes. The studies she cited were especially interesting, and she presented the studies and findings very well. I would take another course from this instructor in a heartbeat.

I signed up for this program because I was lonely and thought I would learn how to socialize more. At first, I thought I misunderstood the purpose of the program. Then I started doing some of the recommendations, and I realized it was exactly what I needed! Many people feel hopeless in today’s divisive climate, but it was wonderful to find out research based facts that kindness is hardwired in us!

Catherine Sanderson's presentation on prosocial behavior was excellent. Her presentation style helped make an interesting topic all the more interesting and thought-provoking. I hope that Road Scholar will invite her to share her knowledge and thoughts again!
