Our trip with Road Scholar to Egypt earned an A+!
We had an enthusiastic, experienced guide in Sarah Tarek who made a memorable trip even better. Her genuine pride in her country and the people of Egypt came through to us and to our fellow travelers.
The accommodations in Cairo were excellent and the people taking care of us were attentive. The time in Cairo was packed full of visits and lectures and meals and while it didn't leave much downtime, ended up being a perfect way to experience the hustle and bustle of the city.
The subsequent trip up the Nile on the dahayeba was a perfect downshift in the activity level, with plenty of visits to temples, tombs and markets, but with lots of downtime to relax and enjoy the slower pace along the river. The accommodations on the boat and the crew were extraordinary.
We were served wonderful food on the boat, at the hotels, and at the various local restaurants which were part of the tour stops. The small size of our touring group made for a comfortable trip where we truly felt a personal relationship with Sarah and with the rest of the touring party. And the small touring group also allowed us access to many sites that cannot accommodate the larger tour groups.
The travel arrangements and airline flights to and from Egypt, as well as the flights within Egypt, went off without a hitch. And every place we went, we had a Road Scholar representative who was friendly and helpful and made us feel at ease.
I could not recommend a better way to experience Egypt - it was a trip of a lifetime.

This was our first Road Scholar trip and I frankly cannot believe how well run it is. Every flight and bus connection was flawless. The escort by Muhammed through the Cairo airport was much appreciated. The Klempinski hotel in Cairo was well suited to our needs. Lunches at small simple local restaurants were great. There was never a moment that our tour leader, Egyptologist Sarah Tarek, wasn't keeping an eye on things and making sure everyone was taken care of. The unique aspect of this program was being able leisurely sail down the river Nile on the dahabeya Queen of Egypt for hours at a time and then stepping off and being whisked to such phenomenal archaeological sites as a small group. As I watched cruise ships with hundreds of people aboard go by, I was so glad I was in a program with only twelve people. It was money well spent.

Sarah was a fantastic guide! I've wanted to see The Pyramids and the Nile for 60 years, and now I have! Thank you, Road Scholars!
