Lively and fascinating history of all the technology developed as a result of the 1906 SF earthquake and fire. SF is now much better prepared to prevent fires from getting out of control. Loved the explanations of how salt water can now be used to fight the fires and how the devices to do so can be deployed relatively quickly, as it was for the Loma Prieta earthquake and resulting fires.
