The course covered not only historical photos and the messages they conveyed (both for the good as well as bad). It also explored the future and AI generated images.

This was a great lecture! The guest speaker picked wonderful photos to talk about and did a fantastic job explaining how each impacted America. He also did a good job dissecting the photos so you know what to look for and why you walk away from a photo feeling the way you do. Hats off to RoadScholar for providing this lecture! Thank you! I learned a lot!

Louis Masur was an incredible speaker and the hour of lecture flew by! He made every historical photograph interesting and leads me to look at photos in a new and different light. I am also a beginner photographer and the composition of my pictures will change as I continue to grow and learn about photography. Thank you Road Scholar for another wonderful learning experience that I never would have had if not for your Zoom presentations!

This lecture was excellent. Good instructor, classic photos, and insight into why they had an impact. Also info on early photography, and how to look at the structure of a photo to understand its impact.

I participated in the online lecture: Images That Changed a Nation- Reading American Photographs. The presenter was amazing. He was very knowledgable and presented the material in a manner that kept his audience's interest and allowed for them to understand the content of the presentation. The hour flew by and I could have listened to Louis for another hour. This is the fourth online lecture I have taken and have enjoyed all of them.

One of the best presentations I've encountered, on any topic, over 50 years - fabulous content choices, explanations, thought-provoking questions to audience, pace, production / visuals, and delivery - Hank Jones (200+ gigs guest-teacher; intermittent author; occasional photography law / business teacher; retired software / IT lawyer; traveler)

It was an amazing lecture in the true Road Scholar tradition. Although I was familiar with most of the photographs, Mr. Masur added so many interesting details and explanations that were all new to me. Loved it!

Outstanding - and I am now officially smarter and delighted. The best way to learn,to be informed is to spend time with someone who is obviously passionate, engaged, and human

Very well organized presentation that covered a lot of photographic history from the 1800s to the 2020s. Professor Masur had a high level of subject matter expertise and was a very good presenter. I just wished he could have covered even more ground!

I thought Professor Masur did a fantastic job in explaining the background, details and history of each photograph. I had no idea all the photographs that are available on the Smithsonian website.
Professor Masur's insight and knowledge into the history and background is extraordinary. The fact that I have recently got into photography just added to my excitement about the program.
I definitely look forward to participating in more programs "taught" by Prof. Masur.
