Italy has always been my bucket list destination and this trip surely didn't disappoint. The private tour of the Vatican Museum & Sistene Chapel was the highlight of the trip. Seeing Michelangelo's David at the Accademia in Florence was absolutely breathtaking. Our guides Lara and Giorgia were so personable, knowledgeable, helpful and enthusiastic. I want to go back!

Italy at a Slower Pace is a wonderful program. So much to see and learn about. The leaders and tour guides are great, the sites breath taking, and everything is so organized and taken care of. I've always wanted to visit Italy and am so glad I chose Road Scholar!

I just don't know why you would want to travel any other way than with Road Scholar.

My husband and I thought this was a wonderful trip, and we had so many positive experiences. The tour guide, Enrica, was pleasant to deal with, worked hard to keep up-to-date with last minute changes that she had no control over and was on top of everyone's needs. The local guides were wonderful, particularly Giulietta, and Elena was also very knowledgeable. The lectures on art and the history of Rome were interesting and informative. Now, I feel compelled to buy a book about the Roman empire (I have read "I, Claudius" and "Claudius the God," but I need something that is easier to follow). Some of the restaurants were excellent, most were good, although some of those we visited as a group were not what I consider close to our hotel. The only criticism we have for this particular tour is that the last few days incorporated a LOT of standing and walking. I know it is difficult to schedule important sites in a way that fits the museums/sites schedules, but even though the program is classified as On Your Feet, the schedule needs to take into consideration that we are all older and by the end of the week we were exhausted - and I know my husband and I were not the only ones. The Uffizi gallery is huge and it is necessary to walk and STAND - a LOT of standing! And then the next day was the Pitti Palace. MORE religious paintings, more walking and standing. Perhaps these two events could be scheduled so they don't fall on back to back days at the very end of the program. OH, and also the description of On Your Feet should indicate that a person will encounter not just stairs/steps, but staircases with over a 100-steps. Again, we really did love the program. We look forward to another Road Scholar adventure as soon as we (and our pocketbooks) have had sufficient time to recover. Regards.

I took the Road Scholar at a slower pace tour in Rome and Florence and was delighted to learn so many things about the history of the area along with seeing so much. This was a very enjoyable program.

This was my second "At a Slower Pace" tour; I appreciated the added free time, whether to find a place I wanted to see or to kick back and relax at the hotel. I hope to be doing more of these in the future.

This trip was really great. First I want to mention that the zoom meeting in advance was really helpful. Although I had read the materials before the zoom, it was good to have a review and questions answered. The tour guide, Bruna, was fantastic! She was very personable, extremely knowledgeable and consistently considerate of the individual needs of the people on the tour. She regularly cautioned us about traffic and other safety concerns. Bruna truly was excellent. The local tour guides and lecturers were also excellent. They had so much information to share and their presentation styles easily kept my interest. The timing of the lectures before venturing out to see the sights was perfect. I really appreciated traveling by golf cart in Rome as I'm not sure we could have seen everything we saw if we had walked or taken a bus. I liked the variety of museums, wine tasting and olive oil tasting as activities. I also thought the amount of free time with touring time was good. I feel so fortunate to have a private tour of the Sistine Chapel. Getting up early for this was certainly worth it! Every one of the restaurants was exceptional and the food was fantastic in both cities. The hotel in Rome was great. The location was great and all of the amenities were wonderful. I also want to point out that the staff at the hotel in Rome was exceptional. The hotel in Florence had some issues. The shower was extremely small, old and rusted. In addition, the room had a serious problem with sewer gas. We requested a different room on the second day and the staff willingly moved us to another room. I would be surprised to think the staff didn't notice the sewer gas odor themselves but they still put guests in the room anyway.

Great tour and guide! Enzo was very knowledgeable and friendly and made the tour fun! Julietta provided the background story on places we visited. The highlight of the trip for me was visiting the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel before they opened to the public! I had already visited them before the tour started, but it was wall-to-wall people that day, so what a treat to get to experience them before they opened! It was fun to meet the other tour guests from all over the U.S. The hotel in Rome was very centrally-located which made it easy to walk to many sites. Rome is beautiful!!
