This is a great trip. You won't run into too many Americans in Georgia. The Georgian people were very welcoming and many of the younger ones start learning English in first grade. The mountains are beautiful.

Georgia is a hidden gem - I highly recommend this trip. Our Group Leader, Davit, was so helpful, knowledgeable, and good at communicating. The delicious food, wine, scenery, and special experiences meeting Georgians was wonderful.

I came for the food and wine and found Georgia to be amazing. Georgia has stunning scenery from the Alazani Valley in Kakheti through the Caucasus and the dramatic peaks of Mount Kazbek and picturesque Trinity Church.
The Georgian people are warm and welcoming. The spirit of community permeates this vibrant culture and each meal is a feast of elaborate vegetarian dishes, flaky flat breads filled with cheese or tasty beans, braises, stews, and grilled meats accompanied by pickles and tons of fresh herbs. The indigenous grape varieties, Saperavi and Rkatsiteli made in the natural method in qvevri are a revelation and unforgettable.
We experienced the complexity and richness of a polyphonic singing performance learning how it enhances the emotional and spiritual experience in both worship and celebration. We enjoyed a Georgian Supra with a Tamada (toastmaster) who offered poetic toasts to peace, country, ancestors, family, new life, departed loved ones, and to love which led us all to reflect on life, gratitude, and interconnectedness. This was a taste of Georgian life.
Realizing how the Georgian people have shown resilience through the centuries of conquest, occupation and upheaval while preserving their language, faith and distinct culture is truly inspiring. Today, that same resilience fuels the current struggle to strengthen their democracy amid complex political pressures. Their desire for freedom and self determination prevails. This is inspiring, motivating and energizing for me as democracy faces challenges here.
Our tour guide, Davit Nozadze was outstanding. His good humor, knowledge, enthusiasm, and warmth made the entire experience unforgettable. He brought every place we visited to life with his expertise and insights. His attention to every detail ensured everything ran smoothly. It’s clear he loves people and his work and Georgia. His passion made all the difference. I couldn’t have asked for a better tour guide.

Georgia welcomes Americans with open arms and has excellent food and wine, along with gorgeous scenery such as the Caucasus Mountains and wine country. English is taught starting in grade school so we could communicate with many people. The program participants were seasoned international travelers since this is an “off the beaten track” trip.
But by far the best thing about this trip is the guide Davit Nozadze. He is funny, smart, warm, honest and organized. He has deep knowledge about every aspect of Georgian life and culture. He is an absolute delight.

If you are looking for an adventure to a beautiful and relatively unknown part of the world, consider Road Scholar's program to Georgia!

As a Georgian from the US, it was my pleasure to visit a much older Georgia and meet the wonderful people who live there. Learning about their history, and enjoying their great food and wines was delightful. I am so glad I made this trip!

Wow! Georgia is amazing. The Georgians have the same zest for life as the Italians with a love of good food and their own unique wine. But unlike Italy, Georgia has yet to be visited by hordes of American and European tourists. Go there before it's completely overrun as it surely will be. Road Scholar's introduction to the country's food and wine was excellent. It was perhaps the best thought-out Road Scholar tour I've take. The country guide, Tamara Natenadze was passionate, funny, and incredibly informative. The visit to the various communities: the Udi minority and the internally displaced people provided a personal glimpse into Georgia's recent past. But the highlight was the introduction to Georgia's remarkable wine culture. I will never think about the drinking of glass of wine in the same way.

I had no idea how important it is for me to know about and care about Georgia. I went primarily because I thought the history would be interesting and wine made in the unique way it’s been made for thousands of years would be fun. Well, yes it is all that but so much more. A beautiful country with beautiful people in a precarious political position. We all should pay attention to Georgia.

Thanks in largest part to our guide Davit Nozadze, our small group was able to dive into the history, geography, and culture of a country long hidden behind the Iron Curtain. This tour was fascinating; I hope more travelers will be curious about Georgia’s history as well as its current events.
