At a Glance

As we celebrate Italy, our Campus of the Year, we invite you to rediscover your love of drawing, sprinkled with a little history for good measure. Join architect Mark Keane for a hands-on lecture and learn to sketch the Grand Canal and the Church of the Salute in Venice. The Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute is a Baroque church from 1630, built just after a third of Venice’s 150,000 citizens had been killed by a plague. To honor the Virgin Mary at the end of the pestilence, authorities offered land along the Grand Canal. The view of this basilica from the water has been a noted subject for countless artists over the years.
