We participated in this trip and found it to be a wonderful, fun filled adventure for us and our granddaughter. The program activities along with the beautiful scenic views, delicious food, and comfortable hotel all exceeded any expectations that we had. Along with this, our group leaders, Michelle and Alessandra were key to guiding us through this most amazing part of Italy. Their loving attention and understanding dealing with our questions and concerns, along with their knowledge and enthusiasm about the trips itinerary was amazing. We plan to check into other Road Scholar trips with our other grandchildren in the future.

I found the trip to be very well organized, with enough places to see and things to do for the grandchildren, the whole point of the trip, of course also enjoyable for the grannies. There was enough information provided, but not so much that the kids started tuning out of what was said. There was lots of time together with the grannies, but also enough free time. We were fortunate that the kids, all seven of them, got along very well. The tour leaders, Alessandra and Giulia, were professional and personable, and when we found ourselves in a 'deluge' situation in Sorrento on the first day, they knew how to reschedule the day and everything went smoothly. It was a good experience for a 16-year old boy and also his great-granny. Thank you.

The trip was amazing. Our group leaders, Guilia ans Alessandra, did an amazing job with all the coordination of guides and transportation. When we had an unexpected storm that canceled our excursion, they kept everyone safe and were able to reschedule at a different time. One suggestion I would make is about the lectures. You need to have a lecture about Pompeii before we go. The kids really liked seeing Pompeii and the guide was excellent but they would have gotten more out of the excursion if they understood the background and the history. The lecture on politics went way over their heads. The mean income didn't mean anything since they don't know what their parents income is. This lecture could be tailored to the history of Italy becoming independent and its current structure related to the US. Getting into in depth economics doesn't mean anything to teenagers. Thank you for an amazing trip with my granddaughter.

The trip was extraordinary, from the brief but pithy lectures delivered by people who know teens, to the field trips to remarkable places. Our stay at O Sole Mio in Sant'Agata was lovely, and all journeys out were well planned and as great as promised. Guides at each site were engaging and well informed. Our leaders, Alessandra and Irene, were always well organized, upbeat, and responsive. I recommend one less bus trip and tour day to a crowded tourist town (for example, choose Capri or Positano). Three shopping opportunities was more than enough. I don't think any teens used the hotel pool, and if planned as an activity, I believe they would respond well to an afternoon there and would return to the pool again. Hats off to Alessandra and Irene and the amiable teens and grandparents! Brenda

We had high hopes that this trip would become a lifelong memory. Our. twin granddaughters will be going off to college, and although this is our 4th Grandparent/Grandchild program, it met the mark of being exactly what we hoped it would be. Not that the others were not great - they were - but this was a standout Our tour guides were excellent and made the trip fun for all. Alessandra in particular was extremely warm and attentive. The kids all bonded. The grandparents bonded as well. The activities were varied and enjoyable. People were on time for all events. And what can you say about the Amalfi Coast? Bellisimo! This trip had a spirit and made it wonderful for us all. Five stars out of five stars (with the exception of the humidity!)

We thoroughly enjoyed this trip. It was definitely "on the go" and we were glad we followed the Road Scholar recommendations for preparing for the hiking. It was so great to share this experience with our granddaughter.

This is an amazing grandparent/grandchild program. Be aware of the description of the level of activity required for the various activities offered! This program is truly "on the go"! Wonderful climbs and hikes are part of the program, and are amazing, but you must be fit and ready!

The trip to the Almalfi Coast should have been labeled "Hiking trip on the Amalfi Coast. Although there was discussion in writeup about the trip that there would be a lot of walking and the one difficult day on the Trail of the Gods, which I knew was not a risk I would take,I thought there would be more educational activities for the grandchildren led by articulate staff who could relate to the teens. The only educational activity was our trip to Pompeii and it was led my an excellent guide. The regular staff, nice women, did nothing to make sure the kids got to know each other at the beginning of the trip. Also it would have been more pertinent and educational if our teens met Italian teens and had a joint activity with locals their age. This was a trip that emphasized food and the main activity seemed to be shopping at each town .Quite boring and repetitive. Although our hotel was very decent it was not convenient to go up and down the hill for restaurants, a stroll or just a cup of coffee. Too much bus travel as well. Staff also needs to know how to handle an emergency if someone gets hurt. Our staff had to contact their supervisor and then she took over after one of our grandmothers fell on the rocks to the grotto where she was was planning to swim, hit her head and was covered with blood. Eventually a boat came to take her to where she could be helped. I would not recommend this trip to grandparents or teens. I have done three or more trips with Road Scholar before this one and recommended Road Scholar trips to friends. I am not sure I will continue doing this. Most important, my granddaughter was disappointed with the trip.

Dear Susan, We are sorry to hear you did not fully enjoy your recent experience with us. Based on your feedback and others we are actively evaluating the program activity level to ensure it helps set better expectations for the program requirements, as well as, reviewing the overall program to see where improvements can be made. We pride ourselves on offering educational adventures of the highest quality, and when we don’t meet those expectations it’s important that we make it up to our participants. We have reached out to everyone that attended your program departure to provide further details. Sincerely, Road Scholar
Janet – Class of 2016 | Lemitar, NM
This educational program connected well with the teens and assisted grandparents and children to communicate and participate collectively! Exceptional organization! It is important to read the description of the activities provided by the road scholar group as that is what one signs up for. My only disconnect was with the mythology talk as even that was out of my realm of interest and comprehension. The program was set up for 14 to 18 year olds, as the material reads. Precautions were issued about trekking safety, and there are always procedures for safety which I acknowledge as important! Thank you Road Scholar for an excellently planned trip. Janet

The recently completed Grandparent-Grandchild program in the Amalfi Coast was a beautiful way to introduce the joys of travel to our grandchild. I am sure that she will continue to view the world as a place to explore and cherish.

The trip was overall a great experience. The group leaders were very experienced and generally very upbeat. Highlights included the Pompei (excellent archeologist guide) and the Path of the Gods hike (also great guides). The emphasis was generally on the teens 14-17, which was fine, but for that group at least one lecture may need to be a bit more entertaining (a little humor perhaps). After the first lecture on gods and goddesses most teens stayed away from the second on politics and contemporary Italy, which was actually very engaging for the grandparents and few teens there. Domenico and Michelle set a nice tone overall and were firmly in charge. Domenico generally watched out for the teens especially on the hikes, when two teens got into bit of trouble. But at the “beaches” he twice left the teens in the hands of parents, once to get water to help wash off the salt (Capri) which was a really nice gesture but he was gone a long time and another time to make or take a phone call (the Roman ruin inlet pool). At least one of the group leaders needs to be in or near the water with the teens at all times (“always with us”?). The fact is though that no one got hurt and everyone had a great time. We could nitpick over the lack of good breakfast coffee at the otherwise great hotel (instant coffee in Italy only for guests and the good bar espresso maker reserved almost exclusively for staff and grudgingly used for guests like us for 3 euros, really?). Towels for 3 euros a day. Some participants bought them for $5 to $10 euros in town and future ones should be advised to bring there own. 4 euros for each “free” hotel shuttle ride to Sorrento each way is a bit much but so is 70 euros for a 7 km taxi from there. Better communication to prepare for the trip is needed as well as before each activity, especially hikes, so teens and grandparents can be better prepared re water, distance, etc. Nonetheless this was overall a wonderful/memorable experience for all.
