Italy is a member of the Schengen Agreement, a set of European and national standards governing different types of visas. As a result of this agreement, Americans may visit the country for up to 90 days without a visa, provided they have a US passport valid for at least six months from the planned date of departure from the EU.
A passport is required for this program. It must be valid for at least 6 months after your return date.

If Road Scholar is arranging your air travel to and from the program, and you travel on the scheduled start and end dates, you’ll receive free round-trip transfers from the airport to the hotel.

Getting to the site: To reach the program site from the airport on your own: At the information desk in the airport arrivals terminal, you can get the most updated train timetables. Please check Florence Airport website for more info: https://www.aeroporto.firenze.it/en/the-passengers/transport.html 1st: Tramway: from Florence Airport to Alamanni Stazione in Florenze next to Santa Maria Novella railway station. The tramway connects every 5 minutes and 7 days a week. The ride is about 25 minutes. Please visit www.gestramvia.it for more information. Train option: direct train each hour from Firenze Santa Maria Novella to Siena train station. The ride is about 1.5 hours. https://www.trenitalia.com Then take a taxi from Siena train station to the Athena Hotel, the ride is about 10/15 minutes. Bus option: bus 131R from Firenze Autostazione Autolinee Toscane bus station to Siena bus terminal in Via Tozzi. (In Florence the bus station is nearby/opposite the Florence Santa Maria Novella railway station). The bus connects every hour and 7 days a week. The ride is about 1.5 hours. https://www.at-bus.it/it/linee-e-orari/regionali-131r Take a taxi from Piazza Matteotti (2 minutes walking from bus terminal). The ride is about 10 minutes. We cannot quote these services as they are public transportations. Taxi: from Florence Airport to Siena is about 1 hour. Bus 131R from the Via Tozzi bus Terminal in Siena (2 minutes walking from Piazza Matteotti) to Autostazione Autolinee Toscane bus station in Florence. The ride is about 1.5 hour. Tramway: from Alamanni bus station in Florence to Florence airport (Terminal 2). Train option: Taxi from Aparthotel to Siena train station. The ride is about 10 minutes. Direct train each hour from Siena train Station to Firenze Santa Maria Novella. The ride is about 1.5 hours. https://www.trenitalia.com Tramway: from Santa Maria Novella train station in Florence to Florence airport. Taxi: from Siena to Florence Airport is about 1 hour. Information if you are purchasing your own airfare: Participants who have not purchased airfare through Road Scholar are eligible to take advantage of the designated group transfers: Arrivals: transfers from the airport to the start location will take place between 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the first scheduled day of the program. Departures: transfer from the end location to the airport will take place between 3:30 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on the last scheduled day of the program. The airport is approximately 1 hour from the hotel, your flight must depart no earlier than 6:15 a.m. Participants must notify Road Scholar of their flight arrangements no later than 30 days prior to departure by calling 1-800-454-5768. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET. If your flight is delayed or cancelled causing the flight to be outside of the designated transfer times, please contact your Group Leader.
