At a Glance

What may be a common sight and source of delight in the summer months in the northeast area of the United States, the Monarch Butterfly’s migration is a fascinating journey filled with adversity and danger. The whimsical orange and black insect faces challenges at every stage of life and at every turn in the long trip southward. Our sustainable tourism and environmental expert will explore the life cycle of the species with an insider view of the battle to preserve their winter refuge in the spectacular Oyamel Forests of Central Mexico. This special presentation takes place as the Monarchs travel south and is Megan Epler Wood’s second presentation in the Road Scholar Virtual Lecture Series focused on “Sustainability of Place”.
