Online Lecture: The Iditarod — The Last Great Race

Terrific 2 hours spent. Jerri Roberts did an excellent job given us a brief history of the area then proceeding to so much information on the Iditarod race. Both the race and highlighting the preparation, starting with selecting the puppies. Her interview with Jeff King, a neighbor and Iditarod winner was an added bonus. We also had a feeling of being on the race with him during the final video. Q&A answered all outstanding questions we had as a group.

The instructor provided historical information and even showed musher Jeff King on the trail that gave us an idea of just how hard and dangerous the trail can be.

A local speaker presented an insider's view of the race, life of the dogs and training . She was a knowledgeable speaker and had interviews with , her neighbor, an Iditarod Race Musher. I am excited to watch it again when I get the link.

I thought I'd be learning about the race, but there was so much more beyond that! There was information and pictures and video about the mushers and the dogs and the training - beyond what I ever considered to be a part of this great race! Twenty years ago, as a fourth grade teacher, I developed a teaching unit on the Iditarod. So even though I had studied about the Iditarod as a teacher, I learned so much from your on-line instructor! She was indeed an expert and I can't imagine you finding anyone more well qualified to take us on a virtual tour! I remember Jeff King from when I taught. He was a star then, and still is! Now I know many of the things he did to prepare, innovate, race, and win the Iditarod! Thank you for an amazing tour!

This program is an excellent overview of the history of the race, but also tells about how the dogs are raised and chosen, and gives insight into what the mushers have to do to prepare and race. A wonderful presenter who is extremely familiar with Alaska.

This was a great lecture containing great maps, videos, interviews and pictures.
