Adventures Online: Discover Peru, Machu Picchu & the Inca Empire

This online adventure was a terrific experience. I would recommend it to everyone. The instructors were first rate. Very knowledgeable and fun. Great experience learning about and visiting Peru.

This is a great way to visit places that a body can no longer get to and enjoy. The guides are personable and capable of answering any question, the visual information is beautiful and informative, the comments of participants are thoughtful.

This was an extremely interesting program. Oscar was knowledgeable and his English was perfect. His presentation was such that you felt you were actually in Peru. I could never handle the high altitudes of Cusco and Machu Picchu but now I can say I was there, and I never had to leave my living room.

I had no idea what to expect with the Zoom trip to Peru. I learned a great deal and I appreciate trips like this as I can no longer travel. When I'm with family or friends it gives me fascinating things to talk about. Now I'm not just some old grandma that has nothing to contribute to our conversations. I'm pretty sure I will take another Zoom trip as it makes me a more engaging person for my age.

This was a great way to learn about the Inca culture and Incan archeologic sites. The presenters were very knowledgeable and the photography was excellent!

Machu Picchu was a great on-line course with the best Lecturer I have ever had in Oscar Velusco. He made the trip very enjoyable and was extremely knowledgeable about the subject matter. I took this course because I didn't think I could manuever the tough terrain of the area.

Sit back and relax. The program brings much information that you would not normally get on a on-site tour yourself. I appreciated the stories of historical events and archeology information that has led us to this time. The staff added authenticity to the event with their experiences and guidance. Well done.

The online presentation was interesting and very well done. Both the moderator, Mariano, and local expert, Oscar, were enthusiastic about sharing information about Peru, Lima, Cusco and Machu Picchu. The questions that came up in the Q&A time brought up interesting topics but nothing stumped Oscar. Very pleased with the whole online course. I don't know if I will travel to Peru but I am definitely interested now.

An excellent program to help escape the Midwest's winter blues!

In addition to much less expense and scheduling issues for flights, the on-line training was extremely informative and much less tiring than actually travelling to Peru. Focus was upon learning and not upon getting there and back.

This is a professionally done travelog. Traditions and history were presented in a easy to understand format. This made a high altitude destination so much easier to get to.

This was a great program that I registered for because, while I would love to visit Peru, the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu, most likely I will not get there in my lifetime, especially after losing 2 years of travel due to COVID. I consider the Road Scholar online courses to be the next best thing to actually traveling to the country. The Program Guide (Dario) and Program Instructor (Oscar) were wonderful, welcoming and knowledgeable. I would recommend this online program for anyone who would like to learn more about Peru and the Inca Empire, even if you think you may one day travel there in person.

I have taken about 5 actual Road Scholar trips and now two remote trips. I have never been disappointed. This remote trip to Peru and Machu Picchu was outstanding. I learned so much and with the magnificent photography I felt like I was there. Our Lecturer, Oscar was excellent, and our group leader also kept the group together with humor and kindness. Dario and Oscar were both knowledgable and personable. They organized a fast-moving and thorough presentation of ancient Peruvian culture and the archaeological site of Machu Picchu - and it was over before I knew it, leaving me to want more!

If Machu Picchu is on your bucket list then this is a wonderful substitute for traveling there. You will experience this wonderful adventure without the climbing and walking at 11,000 feet above sea level.

I just completed the Adventures Online: Discover Peru, Machu Picchu and the Inca Empire. It was an exceptional distance experience of a fabulous area. I really felt as if I were walking through Machu Picchu and the history of the area . I was concerned that it might be a travelogue but it was very immersive. Excellent expert and moderator.

The technology used made us feel as though we were actually walking through Lima and Cusco and hiking to Machu Picchu

The online course to Peru was really wonderful and I was amazed how they could do such a great job showing us Lima, Cuzco, and Machu Picchu with pictures, videos, and interviews with people who live in Lima and Cuzco. Dario was a terrific group leader and Oscar had in-depth knowledge of all three places and pointed out a lot of things and gave us information I never would have learned by watching a travel video or reading a book. They also did a great job by answering our many questions. Thanks for such a great course! It made me want to go see Machu Picchu in person and taking the online course ahead of time would help me get more out of it. I plan on taking more online courses in the future.

Exceptional photography, presentations and samples of artwork.

This trip was excellent and I highly recommend it. It was well structured as a real trip, featuring outstanding instructors and beautiful photography. Given the physical challenge (high altitude) of traveling to Machu Picchu, this was a wonderful way to experience it. A surprising plus was learning about Peru (I had no idea about its fascinating natural resources and history) and the Incas in a broader context.

What a fantastic week with Oscar and Dario. I went to Peru a number of years ago and I wish I would have had the information that Oscar presented BEFORE I went. Peru is a wonderful country that I really didn't understand until my wife and I enrolled in this Road Scholar program. I found the program quite interesting and very well organized. The virtual presentation exceeded my expectations. I learned quite a bit about Peru and its history thanks to the presentation and discussion.

This an excellent and very creative program. Tour guides are highly skilled and vey knowledgeable of the countries they take you around and very professional. Even when travelling in person becomes available, I would still take on line adventure trips. I felt I was there in person with the guides without the hassle of the crowd, the airport, the train or bus ride.

This is a very well presented program! There is a lot very interesting history to it than just Machu Picchu which is the highlight!

I was told that I could find a detailed instruction on how to use the zoom on your site. I couldn’t find it. So I had some difficulty trying to figure out how to put questions in for the chat and how to turn my video on and off etc. I should’ve called technology but I only remembered it when I started to get into the course. My loss.

The virtual Peru trip was a true 5-star experience. I have always wanted to visit Peru and to see Machu Picchu. The Zoom trip exceeded all of my expectations. Everyday was interesting, engaging and entertaining. It was the perfect balance of lecture, field trip, recap and discussion. Dario was enthusiastic and got us excited to start each day. Oscar was an outstanding guide. His passion for Peru and expertise on all subjects made this trip simply amazing! This was my third Road Scholar virtual trip and by far the best. Why? Our guide Oscar Oviedo and our R S leader Dario Jaremczuk had spent much time and effort converting the in-person program to a virtual format that allowed us to feel that we were actually walking through Cusco's streets or hiking the Inca Trail. They lay the wonders of Peru before us in a way that let me feel that I had actually visited this fascinating country from the coastal city of Lima to the heights of Machu Picchu. Oscar's gorgeous photos and videos aided greatly in make the experience real.

I always wanted to travel to Peru, but it did not happen. This online trip covered everything I wanted to see If I could have gone in person. The tour instructor/expert was knowledgeable and was enthusiastic about what he was presenting. History of Peru came alive. The virtual tours were "you are there" experiences.

This program was excellent, both as to the subject, Peru and Machu Picchu, and the commentary and visual images presented.

This is an excellent program, both for those who cannot make such a journey or who don't like heights. But I would also recommend it as a great introduction to Peru if you are planning to go there.

I had a great virtual trip to Machu Picchu. Oscar Oviedo Velasco was a wonderful and engaging instructor, who provided vivid historical and cultural information and insight, as well as leading us on fascinating tours. I recommend that anyone who might be hesitant about taking the trip to Machu Picchu take this virtual tour, as you may learn (as I did) that it would likely not be as physically challenging as I had presumed.

These experts did not just ‘show’ us Peru. They effectively set the stage for us to ‘feel’ an emotional connection to this amazing country, its people, and its culture.

There was a lot to cover, in such a big country, with such a long history. It was fascinating to learn about the pre-Inca cultures; after all, the Incas did not rule for a long time before the Spanish came. I would have liked to learn more about modern Peru and its culture, and seen more photographs.

The program was very well organized, offered a lot of variety and far exceeded my initial expectations for visiting a country from afar. Both the tour guides were clearly passionate about Peru and that passion, pride, knowledge and reverence for all aspects of Peruvian history, culture, politics and all gave us an extra special understanding and appreciation for Peru that we did not previously have. The only thing we'll miss is the photographs we would have brought home! But the talks and tours more than made up for that.

I zoomed in from Australia so that I could do a virtual journey to Machu Pichu and I have had a wonderful 5 days of 3 hours a day of an immersion course on Peru. Worth the early morning start for me to meet the screens of the 30 participants and our charming facilitator Dario. The handouts were a bonus and the lecturers/tour guides Oscar in Lima for pre history and Ivonne in Cusco for the Inca were excellent not only on their subject but in open mike questions about modern life, politics and food. Thank you Road Scholar for adapting to 2020 and I hope you will consider keeping virtual visits in your future program.
