In the 1930s, the British government, struggling with economic depression, acceded to Hitler’s political demands. And by 1940, the invasion of France had begun. How and why did Britain and France fail to prepare for the coming of the Second World War? During a morning and afternoon session, join professor, author and historian Dr. Spencer Jones for an in-depth look at Winston Churchill’s fight against the British appeasement policy, and discover how the Germans were able to carry out a ‘blitzkrieg’ – a lightning war – which shocked the world.

Best of all, you'll ...

  • Learn from Dr. Spencer Jones, historian, author, Senior Lecturer in Armed Forces and War Studies at the University of Wolverhampton and regimental historian of the Royal Regiment of Artillery.
  • Gain an understanding of build up to WWII in Europe, and find out how Britain’s and France’s preparation was fatally flawed.
  • Finish the day with an interactive small-group discussion and question and answer session with your instructor to get all your questions answered about WWII.
