Walking about 1.5 miles during group activities; about 2.5 hours; city sidewalks; use of public transportation.
At the hotel, we’ll have a breakfast buffet including items such as farm-fresh eggs, breads and potatoes, a variety of hot and cold cereals, and fresh fruit, plus juice, milk, coffee, tea and water.
This morning, we will set out on foot for an expert-led walking tour to learn about the history, art and architecture of this exceptional Northwest city. See and hear the stories behind many unusual details that even many locals miss. Take note of the fascinating outdoor public artworks that our local expert will identify along the walking route. These artworks were commissioned through Oregon's Percent for Art legislation, which was passed in 1975. Next, we will walk a short way to visit the Portland Art Museum where we will enjoy a docent-led field trip. The oldest museum in the Pacific Northwest, this facility features a large collection of Native American art.
At a local restaurant, we will have a plated meal with soft drinks, coffee, tea, water included.
After lunch, we will visit Powell's City of Books, the largest independent new and used bookstore in the world. We will learn about the history of Powell's and how it grew to be one of Portland's main attractions. After this group activity, there will be time for independent exploration before returning to the hotel on your own. We will join the main program for dinner at the hotel. This concludes the extension.
