Getting on/off motorcoach; standing up to 2 hours at the museum; walking up to two miles over the course of the day on level, paved terrain in the downtown area at 5,300 feet elevation.
We will enjoy a buffet at the hotel; selections may include cage-free eggs, hot breakfast meats, assorted cereals, organic granola, steel-cut oatmeal, seasonal fresh fruit, juice, milk, coffee, tea and water.
We'll depart on foot for a field trip to the Denver Art Museum led by a docent. DAM, as the locals call it, was established in 1893. There are 10 permanent collections displaying over 70,000 works of art, ranging from their noted American Indian art collection to an extensive impressionist collection with paintings by van Gogh, Monet, and Degas. There is also an impressive collection of large contemporary pieces. The Frederic C. Hamilton Building, designed by Daniel Libeskind, is an architectural work of art in itself, designed to echo the mountains that encircle Denver, with its dramatic, sharp angles.
We will enjoy a plated meal at a local restaurant, including our choice of main course plus coffee, tea, water; additional beverages available for purchase.
We'll then travel to The Arts District on Santa Fe, where our Group Leader will introduce us to one of Colorado's designated Creative Districts. There are more than 30 art galleries, studios, and innovative businesses located with TADSF, which we’ll explore independently. The neighborhood's traditionally Hispanic roots are also on display, from colorful murals and the exhibitions at Museo de las Americas to the Latino influence on the neighborhood's restaurants. Following our visit to TADSF, we will return to the hotel for a free evening.
This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions from the many restaurants near our hotel.
