This was a great trip- especially with Paula as a guide. She’s extremely knowledgeable, warm, friendly and excellent at sharing information. The two speakers : one on the fine art of Porto, the other on architecture were excellent, and adept at sharing the information with relevant visuals. This was my 3rd trip with Paula as leader (2020, 2022, and 2025) and she’s outstanding on Spain and Portugal. And the river boat on the Douro was a great way to experience this trip.

This is a wonderful way to experience what Porto and the Douro River Valley have to offer. Paula, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable and upbeat; our bus driver, Pedro, was amazing; and, the CroisiEurope accommodations were very comfortable with a wonderful staff. I highly recommend this trip.

One of my very favorite Road Scholar trips! Outstanding scenery, guide and fellow travelers. Go before the river gets busier.

I loved seeing the beautiful Douro Valley, the vineyards, wineries, tastings, learning about the cork, and Portugal in general. Paula our guide made this trip very memorable for me. She is organized, planful, and did not appear phased by the stress of the country power outage. She kept us informed during this unplanned event. All through the trip she made sure we were informed of the daily activities. She led a couple of the lectures where I learned a lot about Portugal, the history and how it's changed to what it is today. Paula is a top notch guide in my experience with RS. Thank you Paula for creating a memorable and informative trip.

We enjoyed this trip very much. We were fortunate to have a wonderful, outgoing, and interesting group of Road Scholars. The ship was terrific with a friendly crew, skilled captain, good adventurous food and a comfortable cabin. The evening entertainment was delightful as was the wait staff in the dining room. The river’s beauty was beyond our expectations. Our group leader, Paula, was really good. She is quite knowledgeable and explained everything well. She was always pleasant and up beat. The HF Tuelo Porto Hotel was also very nice with pleasant, capable people at the front desk, excellent breakfasts and clean rooms. We appreciated the Food Court and grocery near the hotel. Road Scholar paid for our meals “on our own” which was a surprise and appreciated. We were impressed by the quality of our visits to the amazing garden, monastery, winery, Salamanca Cathedral, the Museum of Prehistoric Rock Art Site, the Amadeo De Souza Cardoso Museum and the Museum of Cork. I wish we had more detailed information at the Art Nouveau and Art Deco museum as that is an interest of mine. The motor coach driver was really skilled! Driving that big bus through all that traffic and narrow streets was something! Our flight home was delayed on account of problems at the Newark airport, but Paula quickly helped us make other arrangements. Overall, we feel this is a really good Road Scholar trip. We will recommend this trip to our wine, scenery and fun loving friends!

This is an excellent program in an interesting and beautiful region, and our group leader, Paula, was outstanding. The CroisiEurope riverboat was comfortable, the staff welcoming and attentive, and the food very good. The only negative was that there are now many riverboats sailing on the Douro, so we were often docked right beside some of them, and couldn't open our cabin draperies for views out over the river and shore - a downside of going to a beautiful place that so many now want to go to too.

Our first river cruise and I’m afraid we are now spoiled for future river excursions. Portugal is a beautiful country and the scenery down the Douro River is second to none. Day trips to gardens, farms, wineries, and museums gave us a more complete picture of Portugal. The trip to Salamanca was beautiful and local guide’s excellent. Bus rides to and from were a treat in themselves as we drove through very scenic countryside. Definitely a 5 plus star adventure. The cruise line Croisi Europe was wonderful and staff eager to please. I made a video of our tour and posted it on YouTube. You can do a search on YouTube using the name of the RS tour. RS tours are always well organized and this one was exceptional, coordinating between the ship schedule and land bus tours. Our guide, Paula, was very friendly to all and attentive to participants that needed extra accommodation. The Douro river valley was most interesting and transiting the locks amazing. This tour gets my highest recommendation to others who are looking for something new and different. Ron...Colorado

The trip along the Douro River in Portugal was a pure delight. An excellent balance of active excursions and more relaxed time on the river. Our guide was the best. We learned a lot and ate very well on the French cruise line.

The Douro River was beautiful. Day excursions for the most part were very interesting and informative. The cruise ship was top notch with amazing meals. The time of year, i.e. late September was ideal for sitting on the sun deck and relaxing and enjoying the beauty of the river valley. RS guides were outstanding!

My trip along the Duoro was glorious! I loved the scenery and traveling thru the locks was fascinating. The accommodations on the ship were fine and the food was A+. I especially liked that I didn’t have to worry about bar tabs and tipping. Road Scholar handled COVID related issues well.I might suggest a change in the Porto hotel. I would have preferred a smaller, more local hotel. Sheratons are everywhere and though nice, not very special. I must comment on the quality of our guide, Paula Bizarro Moriera. She is a gem and I know you must be aware of that. Her knowledge of every aspect of Portugal and general European history and culture is truly impressive. She was always available and willing to help in every way. She attended to every little detail and never lost her smile. She was warm and friendly. Being a tour guide cannot be easy, but Paula was made for the position!!

This was my first Road Scholar trip and I look forward to the next one. Most of my travel in the past has been independent; so I was apprehensive about feeling part of a herd. But it was not like that at all. The leaders are knowledgeable, the itinerary is excellent and it is all comfortable and delicious. Plan to do this trip in the Fall when the colors are radiant.
