Be prepared for a big day! We will begin our journey into sketching by building our own sketch kits and exploring materials. Then it’s off to explore the Palm Key surrounding to the day's lessons on value, gesture and composition while also get comfortable with the materials. After supper, enjoy an interactive evening program, with more opportunity to sketch!
Breakfast served at 8:00 am. Fuel up on our sumptuous lowcountry breakfast--you'll have an active day! Have oatmeal, eggs; you'll find something you like. Come dressed for outdoor exploration, and don't forget to prepare your bag lunch from the delectable variety of options provided. Put an extra snack in your pocket in case you get the mid-morning munchies.
We’ll begin our day getting comfortable with the materials by building a unique travel sketching box. Discussing the water brush and colors and learning to hand bind our own sketchbooks. We will also look at a variety of sketching artist to develop a sense of the broad range of styles and techniques used. We will also look at variety of flickr and facebook sketching groups for sharing and getting involved in this world wide movement.
Lunch is out and about today; we'll find a place to pull over if we can and enjoy those delicious sandwiches and treats we prepared at breakfast. Hold out a snack for later-- your lunch calories might need reinforcement through the afternoon.
After lunch we will discuss composition, the grid/overlap and value blocking, ( a method of simply organizing value into pattern of light and dark) In the afternoon we will spend time exploring our Palm Key surroundings and practicing the skills explored and that we will work to expand upon through the rest of the week. In this walking tour near classrooms we will work in Mini sketch books quick walking gesture.Before dinner we will continue to work in these mini books to fill in color local color and further our comfort level with watercolor and water brush we will use through the week.
Back on site and cleaned up, enjoy a glass of iced tea along with your leisurely lowcountry dinner, served at 6:30 pm. The menu’s created to please us, and it always does. Tonight, what’s for supper? Will it be Chicken Bog? Or black-eyed peas and collard greens? Always check out what's at the end of the buffet, so you can save room for what's to come.
We will take time time to look at everyone's sketches for the day, with a brief wrap up discussion, more sketching will be encouraged during our evening discussion Topics for presentations may include Port Royal Sound and Estuaries, Why Knot?
