This is a unique trip in that we hike the eastern-most part of the El Camino. Challenging hiking, outstanding mountain & sea views, & so much history. Group members periodically identified events in Catalonia's history that remind us of our own country's current events.

Hiking Costa Brava was a thrilling way to learn about the culture and history of one of the most beautiful, peaceful areas of the Mediterranean. To experience it with intelligent, empathic guides and tour participants made it a life affirming experience for us.

Our guide Emma and the local guides that assisted during our walks were incredible, making this a truly memorable experience. One can't list all the extra care we experienced, their knowledge and friendliness. Emma added extra activities, history lectures, and fun moments that were not on the schedule. The Costa Brava is stunning. The majority of us were surprised by the difficulty of walking on rocky sides of cliffs and felt the tour should classified as difficult. Luckily our guides were always watching our movements and providing help when some of us required it. Yet I am so glad I participated in this tour and rank it the best of the RS walking trips I've joined. The hotels and food exceeded my expectations. On the last evening, Emma reviewed our trip, and many of us were emotional when expressing what a special time this had been for all of us.

Of the 8 hiking trips we have done with Road Scholar in Europe, this was the most challenging. It was also the best organized (they have all been excellent) and had the best hiking support team. Olga and her team really know their part of the world and they clearly enjoy introducing the Costa Brava to others. We essentially had a "sag wagon" with us for parts of the trip. People could (few did) opt out of hiking certain parts of the trail, if they felt they needed to. Saying that, all 20 people in the group were in good shape and fairly evenly matched. You could tell everyone had read the walk description and made an effort to get in shape. The scenery was gorgeous. We walked along the coast for much of the trip and it is beautiful. The hotels and food (let's talk about tapas here!) were some of the best we have had on any trip. While we didn't do the trip because of the connection of the area to Dali, it was interesting and educational. Our group leader, Emma Christie, is the best! We just can't say enough about her.

Beautiful coastline with excellent hikes led by Sandra and Olga. The hotels and food are wonderful! Wine tasting at a family run farm along with the visits to Dali's home and museum were very interesting.

This trip was more challenging than our previous RS hiking trip to Mont Blanc. However the scenery is wonderful, the local tour operators are fabulous, providing refreshments during checkpoints throughout the hikes, and a van at the checkpoints for those who wanted to take a break. Hotels were very good and the Dali museum was a highlight. The visit to a working farm was fun and informative, and the wine they made there was really good. Emma Christie, tour director, was always there for us, and kept us upbeat, despite 4 days of rain. Even though some of the hikes were too difficult for me, the scenery, friendliness of the people, and interesting itinerary made the trip very worthwhile.

This is a great trip for those seeking a walking experience up and down along a rocky coast, as well as through interesting small towns and cities. If Emma Christie is your group leader then you have hit the jackpot.

We thoroughly enjoyed this trip and would definitely recommend it. Our group leader, Louisa, was always cheerful, attentive, and helpful. The four "Walking Costa Brava" guides were all fantastic. Louisa and the four guides were always cheerful and there with a helping hand when needed. The daily briefings with handouts from the guides with distances and elevations were a great motivational reference each day. The local guides in museums were very knowledgeable. Food was excellent.

This is a unique and challenging program. The scenery is spectacular and the hiking is very well managed by Luisa and the other guides, all of whom are gracious and concerned about the comfort and safety of the group. This was our 5th Road Scholar hiking program and we have been very satisfied with all of them.
