The transfer to Fort William is 144 miles, approximately 4 hours driving time.
In the hotel, we’ll have a full Scottish breakfast buffet which will include a variety of eggs, bacon, sausages, hash browns, baked beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, yoghurts, cereals, porridge, toast, jams and marmalade, juices, water, tea and coffee.
We will check out of the hotel and transfer via mini coach to Fort William. Leaving Edinburgh towards Stirling, we’ll pass by Stirling Castle – high atop an ancient volcanic crag. Our Group Leader will tell us about its fascinating history as we pass, heading deep into the Highlands.
At the Bridge of Orchy Hotel en route, we’ll have a plated and served meal with coffee, tea, water included; other beverages available for purchase.
Our transfer to Fort William continues. We’ll pass many beautiful lochs as we wind our way through the Highlands including Loch Lubnaig, Tulla, Bai and Linnhe. Our Group Leader will explain the significance of the Lochs to the Highland way of life, and answer any questions you may have about the history of this fascinating country. Once we arrive at the hotel you will have time to check-in and relax before dinner. Elective: those who are feeling energetic may join our Group Leader for a walk alongside the mouth of the River Lochy to Old Inverlochy Castle.
In the hotel we’ll have a plated and served 3-course meal with coffee, tea and water; other beverages available for purchase.
We’ll gather in the hotel after dinner for a briefing on walking and hiking in the Highlands. Everything we will need to know about traversing this beautiful, rugged landscape will be covered and any burning questions you may have will be answered. Our Group Leader will also explain the variety of walks offered each day and the differences in content and length to help us in making our choices. After our briefing, we’ll enjoy a talk on clan history delivered by our group leader, providing us with essential context for some of the historic sites we’ll be encountering on our walks.
