We had a wonderful journey. It opened our minds to a history we did not fully understand. The lectures were excellent especially those we heard about LBJ, who unexpectedly tied and connected all the dots for us about the Texas Hill Country. Our guide during the week was a tremendous asset. Simply outstanding in the big things and the small details. She wove so much together - a good leader, and good conversationalist, a true-Texan. Exceeded all of our expectations. Accommodations were perfect. The group outstanding. Thank you,

My Road Scholar trip to San Antonio was beyond my expectations. The trip was very well-organized with knowledgeable experts giving engaging talks. Our group director was wonderful. The places and things I saw and learned about were memorable. My fellow group members were interesting and pleasant. I look forward to going on another adventure wih Road Scholar.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. The leader did a great job. My only disappointment was that we did not go to see the LBJ Ranch. Tari said it was closed due to repairs to the house, but friends of mine who were in hill country two weeks before were able to drive all over the ranch and thoroughly enjoyed it. (They did not go in the house.) I would’ve enjoyed that much more than spending so much time in Fredericksburg. Like many other elderly travelers, I don’t really need to do a lot of shopping anymore. I’m downsizing.

The San Antonio and Texas Hill Country program was fascinating and most enjoyable. It expanded my knowledge of the history and facts of a part of the USA that I knew little about.

Excellent program that expands one's knowledge of Texas as well as the US as a whole. Many different cultures covered as well as history of this state and our nation. Excellent speakers. Interesting field trips (most of them)....

The program gave me a balanced view of San Antonio and the Texas Hill Country. Kim, our travel guide, was perfection personified. There was not a detail, nor situation that escaped her attention. As for the guest lecturers, they not only knew their subject matter, but they also presented it with panache. I would highly recommend this trip.

This was my first Road Scholar adventure and it will not be my last! Everything was wonderful-- all the instructors, the food, the sites. Also, our group leader Ginger Burkholder was excellent. I highly recommend this particular trip and Road Scholar.

I used to live in Texas - Lampasas County and saw lots of Texas but this trip was terrific. the "hook" for me was the LBJ ranch tour. It was so interesting to listen to phone conversations he had with MLK, RFK, Ike and others. His folksy, country charm came through loud and clear. He had a certain panache for people and getting things done. The hotel was great - morning breakfast buffet and "kick back" soiree in evening with adult beverages and lots of heavy hors d'oeuvres. The seminars were well done and the speakers very engaging and energetic. Be aware there is no shuttle from airport to hotel. Cab fare was $30 plus tip. Maybe an Uber would have been less? I would recommend this trip.`

We thoroughly enjoyed this comprehensive look at San Antonio in our first visit to Texas. Truly, something for everyone - engaging lectures, field trips to the Hill Country, including a wine tasting(!) and LBJ Ranch, walking tours of the city, and nearby Briscoe Western Museum, to name just a few highlights. No trip to San Antonio would be complete without visiting the Alamo and all of the missions nearby. Our hotel on the Riverwalk was wonderfully situated in the center of the city, with easy access to the River. Highly recommend! And, yes, be sure to read Forget the Alamo from the recommended reading list!

While every one of our lecturers was excellent, of my 30+ trips with outstanding trip leaders--Linda Murray is THE BEST. When there was "free time", she led tours for the undecided. She provided maps and written information, took group pictures, kept us well informed of each days activities-even led the dancing at The Old 300. The program itself covered San Antonio and the surrounding area completely-truly living up to the best "road scholar" experience.

This is an excellent program and a great value. We gained an in-depth understanding of Texas history, San Antonio today, and how LBJ was influenced by his hill country home. We could not have had these experiences on our own.

Having never been to Texas before, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had a great experience! The hotel was situated right next to the River Walk and was convenient to several of the sites. The best part, however was learning about the political history and then the contributions made to Texas culture by native people, the Spanish, and the Mexicans.

remembering the Alamo is only one of the many historic sites in San Antonio. Six flags stands for so much more. history comes alive in San Antonio.

San Antonio offers an opportunity to better understand how political and cultural forces shaped the history of one of the most interesting places in our history. In fact the tour provides visits to historical sites as well as time to digest the rich history of a major Texas city.

A very good program. Ginger, our group leader, was excellent, as were the lecturer's on Texas history, LBJ and the San Antonio River. The hotel was very nice, and in the perfect location. It was also nice to have a day in the Hill Country visiting the LBJ Ranch, Fredericksburg and Luckenbach.

San Antonio, TX is a place that I’ve wanted to visit for a long time. When my mother suggested Road Scholar, I was unsure if I would have a good time in such a group. Our trip was just super! We explored the River Walk and environs beyond just as I would have planned myself. Everybody on the trip was kind, generous and fun. I’m a convert to Road Scholar and look forward to taking more trips—maybe even with my teenaged daughter!

We had a great time and learned a lot about Texas history and LBJ. The hotel was in a great location, on the Riverwalk and near many attractions. We enjoyed visiting the Alamo, the Spanish missions, the LBJ ranch, and some museums. The SAGA multi-media show on the front wall of the cathedral was amazing.
