This program was everything I imagined it to be an even more. I got to see some of real Australia on the southern coast and between the cities. Lots of wildlife. And an opportunity to see the southern night sky. Enough free time to do all the things I wanted to do.

This program had so many wonderful stories, scenes, sites, as well as unique food surprises that you did not want the tour to end.

This is an excellent introduction to Australia both present and past. The wildlife and scenery were incredible. And our tour guide was fabulous.

Elspeth was the best tour guide we have had. She made lemonade out of the lemons in life, with grace, patience and a smile. We highly recommend travel with her.

I very much enjoyed this Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney program and points in-between such as the Great Ocean Road, the Phillip Island Penguin Parade, Budj Bim Indigenous Cultural Landscape, and more! We had a terrific and organized group leader in Mary Gordon who provided informative commentary throughout the program. Sydney was our last stop and, being the most populous city in Australia, I thought I wouldn't like it as much as Melbourne and Adelaide, but with some orientation to the city's tram system, I found it easy enough to navigate. I appreciated the fact that there were free days in both Melbourne and Sydney so we could pursue our own interests. Mary was so helpful in assisting me with my plans for those days. In Melbourne, I strolled through the vibrant Queen Victoria Market (a must for foodies!), visited the excellent Immigration Museum, and had lunch at a restaurant in China Town near our hotel. In Sydney, I took an enjoyable harbor cruise, visited the Museum of Sydney, and had lunch at a roof-top pub. There were many highlights of the official program including tours of Melbourne's Royal Botanic Gardens, and an informative lecture about Contemporary Australia; Adelaide's South Australian Museum and Botanical Gardens, focusing on Aboriginal culture; and a docent-led in-depth tour of Sydney's iconic Opera House. I loved seeing the native fauna such as wallabies, koalas and exotic birds. And I tried Australia's favorite breakfast spread Vegemite. Since Adelaide was one of the reasons I signed up for this program, I was somewhat disappointed that we only spent one full day there (Melbourne and Sydney were allotted two days each). I would recommend that, in future planning, Road Scholar give equal-weighting to all three cities. But all in all, this was a very enjoyable program.

Our experience with Road Scholar was top notch. Our leader Mary Gordon was well prepared and very informative. Every stop along the trip was different and had it's own character. Australia and its people are beautiful. We are already planning for our next trip with Road Scholar.

A most amazing tour of Australia. Met many people who shared my love for travel and education. I will continue to travel with Road Scholar and hopefully with those I met on this tour!!

Oz Rocks! Perfect trip combined with 3 days of "work" after the touring. The guide (Mary) was professional and pleasant. We had a good mix of touring and spare time. Melbourne was a great place to start with time to enjoy the city. The Ocean Road part of the trip was scenic and fun. The stop at Budj Bim National Park was a highlight, along with a fantastic lunch. Adelaide was much different than Melbourne, a nice smaller city with awesome Botanical gardens with a native guide The final stop was Sydney, where we enjoyed a walking tour to get oriented, and tour of Opera House. Spare time allowed to to explore on foot. Finally the group went to Manly Beach, and we hiked there on the Spit to Manly trail. LOL that was the day for heavy rain once we did most of the hike. The program concluded with a dinner on Darling Harbor. We ended up with another day in Sydney, before going inland to do our photography work. The trip timed perfectly with our scheduled photo shoot. Glad to have visited Australia. Many of the guests had done New Zealand as part of their tour. After hearing about NZ, we went on our own in June (their winter), four months later.

Enjoyed getting to know more about Australia so it’s not just a far-away continent but a place with people like me. Of particular enjoyment to me were the animals (wallabies, penguins, and koala bears), the Great Ocean Road, the hike at Manley, and spending time at the Sydney Harbor.

What a lovely taste of Australia was gathered for the participants of the Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney trip! Cherry picked experiences from the magical parade of penguins on Phillip Island, to a bush walk through the tree ferns of Melba Gully along the breath taking beauty of the great coast highway, to taking trams and ferries and walking in the heart of these three great cities. The early history of the Aborginal people who lived in Australia 50,000 years before the Europeans arrived was not forgotten! Bravo for a well thought out program.

Mary Gordon was an outstanding tour leader! She really made the trip wonderful. I especially appreciated how she cared about each person having a really meaningful and fun experience. She was very well organized, and also taught us a great deal; plus she used a variety of approaches to teach us about Australia: group songs, lectures on history and culture, movies and videos, etc. The experience for me at the hotels was mixed: overall the food at hotels and special places we ate was very good and plentiful. One hotel, the Pullman in Melbourne, was not satisfactory in that the AC in my room didn’t work, and they sent three different people to fix it. (And this was the first night after such a long flight.) Finally the maintenance man said they’d have to take out the refrigerator and basically all the ducts, fan, and the wall, etc. to fix it. I did get another room, but I think I should have gotten a discount on the room. They gave me a free breakfast instead. It was very disruptive and not a good way to start the trip. The itinerary was very good. I loved the penguin parade, and Sydney Opera House. It was. Very special to see the animal preserve, be close to kangaroos and pet them. Sometimes the free days, such as in Sydney, was a bit stressful in that we had to figure out where to go and how to get there on our own, not knocking such a big city. But again, Mary was extremely helpful in guiding us in what to see and do. Overall it was a very well planned and organized trip. Karen Kimball

Australia should be on every American's radar. Its history can teach us much about coping with a difficult history. The country feels fresh, vital, and positive. I came home with new energy.

This program highlighted both our countries shared origins and common problems and the diverse ways we have responded. We have much to learn from each other and this program contributed to that learning. (And the birds are amazing!)
