This afternoon, we will take a field trip to Craggy Gardens and Mt. Mitchell on the Blue Ridge Parkway
Early morning coffee is out usually around 6:30 a.m. Our breakfast buffet is available from 7:30-8:30 a.m. in the Assembly Inn Dining Room. Is breakfast your favorite meal of the day? If so, you're in for a treat. Options change daily with favorites such as biscuits and gravy, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, grits, hash browns, French toast, pancakes, oatmeal (not the packaged kind!), and more. Standard offerings include fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, granola, baked pastries, juice (orange and another), milk (all varieties) plus fresh hot coffee or tea.
Today we venture into the mystical land of Fincayra and Ancient Wales, home of the young boy Emrys (early name for Merlin). We will take on new identities as sacred Celtic animals and magical beings as we mirror the adventures of Emrys throughout the week. Close ties with all of nature will be a focus. Art projects today include felt masks and our nature journals. We end the day with games which to foster team work and paired cooperation. If you have not read these chapters before your arrival, you will have a chance to read them together on Sunday night).
In the Dining Room, Monday is typically "Deli Day" with freshly sliced deli meats such as turkey, ham, roast beef, cheeses, lettuce, tomato, a variety of breads, and condiments plus a salad bar as well as side dishes that vary such as chicken or tuna salad, potato salad, macaroni salad. And always a little something for your sweet tooth!
To remind us of the wonders of the forest, we will spend our afternoon amidst the high hills and scenic views of the Blue Ridge Parkway. After lunch, we board up on the provided transportation and go to Craggy Gardens and Mt. Mitchell (highest point east of the Mississippi). Please read more about these places on the Blue Ridge Parkway website.
