Afternoon: Participants arrive in Strasbourg and will transfer by coach or taxi from the Strasbourg Railway station (or airport) to the hotel. Relax before meeting for orientation and dinner. We will gather in our private meeting room where the Group Leader will greet you with a warm welcome and introduce everyone. We will review the up-to-date daily schedule and any changes, discuss responsibilities, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer any questions you may have. Please be aware that program activities and scheduled times could change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Dinner: Enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant.

Discovering Strasbourg

Activity note: Today's activities include walking up to three miles in the morning over cobbled stone streets.

Breakfast: Buffet at the hotel.

Morning: Enjoy a morning Strasbourg city walk and discover the section called La Petite France and the beautiful famed cathedral.

Lunch: At a local restaurant.

Afternoon: This afternoon, explore the Palais Rohan and Strasbourg City Museums. Enjoy a guided introduction followed by free time for individual explorations of the Fine Arts Museum, the Decorative Arts Museum, and the Archaeological Museum.

Dinner: Near the hotel.

Free Time in Strasbourg and Embark the Madeleine

Breakfast: Buffet at the hotel.

Morning: This morning your guide will take you on a walking exploration to discover Strasbourg.

Lunch: This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions.

Afternoon: This afternoon, you will have some additional free time in Strasbourg. Take this opportunity to explore at your own pace, check out museums, or simply sit down at a Cafe and enjoy the city. Later on, we will board the coach for our transfer to the barge and upon arrival, embark the MS Madeleine, your home for the next six nights.

Dinner: Welcome Dinner on board (Incl. drinks wine, beer, water, coffee, fruit juice) followed by a discovery of the old Strasbourg by panoramic boat. Dinner on board is a 3-course sit down meal served at set times prepared fresh on a daily basis. Drinks included are: mineral water, fruit juice, tea, coffee, house wine and beer. Champagne and wines on the special wine list are available for an additional charge.

Evening: Enjoy a tour of Strasbourg's old town by panoramic boat.

Morning: Cruise through the Zorn Valley and its landscaped fields where the canal is wide and straight.

Lunch: On board.

Afternoon: This afternoon, hike along the hops trail in Wingersheim. Afterwards, enjoy a beer tasting.

Dinner: At a local restaurant in Waltenheim featuring the local specialty a "Tart Flambe" or Flaming tarts / flat pies, very tasty

Morning: Virtually unknown by the usual tourist routes, Saverne offers a wide range of places to discover: the Grand Rue with its unicorn fountain (the town's emblem); the Katz house, adorned with magnificent carved timbers; Notre Dame Church with its 12th-century steeple; various 18th-century administrative buildings; and the Récollets Monastery founded in the 14th century.

Lunch: On board.

Afternoon: Set off on foot to marvel at Lutzelbourg Castle. Perched at over 980 feet above sea level on a rocky, red sandstone spur, the ruins of the castle majestically dominate the village down in the Zorn Valley.

Lutzelbourg to Xouaxange & Inclined Plain at Arzviller

Morning: This morning, our boat will pass through the Arzviller inclined plain for a truly unforgettable experience. A fantastic piece of workmanship, this type of transverse boat lift is the only one of its kind in Europe. Stop at the local crystal workshop. Located at the foot of the incline for over 25 years, the crystal workshop is a family-run business specializing in the art of hand blowing and cutting crystal.

Lunch: Enjoy lunch by candlelight while we pass through the Arzviller and Niderviller Tunnels.

Afternoon: Continue sailing to Xouaxange. Enjoy a presentation by your Study Leader, "A Brief History of Alsace and Lorraine." Learn about these two French provinces that have a very unique history.

Morning: This morning, we will go through the Rechicourt lock, one of the largest in France, before continuing our journey.

Afternoon: This afternoon, we explore the city of Sarrebourg, the gateway to the Vosges mountains. The city has rich historical diversity and its church features very unique stained glass windows done by Marc Chagall.

Dinner: Gala evening on board.

Evening: French Trivia game with your group leader.

Morning: This morning after breakfast we transfer to the Strasbourg airport or the Strasbourg Train Station (if your flight is on Air France or Lufthansa).
