This is a tremendous experience in SW desert hiking where along with vigorous exercise and beautiful views you’ll learn a lot about “Sky Islands” and biodiversity- also Apache history and their conflicts with the US. The group leaders are superb- I strongly recommend it.

I had been waiting over a year to go on this hike and my anticipation was huge - but not at all misplaced! The hikes through amazing scenery, finding out about the history of this fascinating area, our group leaders and docents, a great group of fellow hikers, the lodging and food, and finally, the perfect weather - it was all perfect. Highly recommended!

This was a wonderful trip! It was great learning about and hiking in the far SE corner of Arizona. Our guides, Steve and Pat, were excellent - personable, flexible, and very knowledgeable. The hikes, which were not too difficult and offered interesting terrain and amazing views, were very enjoyable. We had some fascinating lectures and site visits. The lodging was comfortable and conveniently located, and the food at the various restaurants we visited was excellent. I highly recommend this trip!

The Arizona Sky Island trip was a perfect introduction to Road Scholar trips for me. Small group, lots of interesting hikes, and a good mix of natural history and area history. The group leader, Steve, is very knowledgeable about the area and adds a lot of local context. It was well organized, offered some variety in the level of difficulty for different group members, and was a lot of fun. 100% would recommend this trip!

It was a very enjoyable inaugural road scholar trip. It was well organized and very informative. The leaders were great, friendly, and knowledgeable. My only suggestion is to consider adding communication devices on all hikes, at least for the first half. Even if not fully narrated along the way, the occasional discussion or pointing out a key site is appreciated and would be nice for all of those in the back of the group to hear. Thanks again!

This program was a wonderful introduction to a unique and incredible area, deeply steeped in history and fascinating geology. The daily hikes exposed us to a world of geological wonders in a lightly-visited high desert world. The guides were beyond fantastic and ensured that every participant had all they needed to have the best of possible experiences. This was a very rich and educational experience and a week of moderately to quite challenging hikes of 4-7 miles daily with substantial elevation gains and losses daily.

This was a well organized program and a terrific value. We had six days of hiking, a copper mine visit, 3 outdoor lectures (geology, owls and solar energy) and 3 pertinent museum visits (Indians, reptiles and Bisbee). We side-stepped the rain forecast by visiting the interesting town of Bisbee and their copper mine tour. Lunch was made to order and packed in sacks for our hikes. Van transportation was comfortable and on time. Full days of activity.
