I enjoyed the extension very much, particularly the hike through Plitvice National Park.

What is now Zagreb grew from what was initially two neighboring settlements, Kaptol and Gradec. Each was surrounded by high city walls that served defensively for years but, as time drew on and more people moved to the area, eventually the lowlands between the two hill communities were settled also. After years of the borders blurring, these settlements finally were combined into the city of Zagreb in 1850. I enjoyed the extension very much, particularly the hike through Plitvice National Park.
Zagreb, Plitvice Lakes and Zadar are both beautiful and interesting. It was great to see all of them.
The extension program should not be missed. It is excellent in its own right. The trip to the interior covers a surprising number of sites and gives one a deeper appreciation of the country's history and beauty.
The Croatia extension trip was amazing and worth the additional 4 days. The visit to the National Park was a not to be missed highlight
I encourage anyone who is signed up for "The Best of Croatia: A Coastal Voyage by Yacht" program to also sign up for the Extension: "Croatia's Capital and Beautiful Lakes, " in order to experience and appreciate the differences between the northern and southern parts of this beautiful country.
Five Stars. Extension is not to be missed. Zadar is an interesting city with a beautiful modern waterfront and innovative way of displaying ancient Roman ruins just scattered around town. Zagreb is a nice, manageable capital city. But the highlight is the National Park with its waterfalls. It is definitely one of Europe's natural wonders. Our wonderful guide from the main trip, Jana Stepic, went out of her way to accommodate one gentleman who couldn't manage the terrain. A great ending to our Croatia cruise.
Absolutely the best travel experience I have ever had! The expertise of our leader, tour guides and lecturers was first rate. We had the right amount of activity – planned and free time. The sites were gorgeous, our accommodations were lovely and the price was very reasonable. I plan to keep up with several people from our trip. I took this extension class as well as the week on board the Casanova. It was wonderful learning about and experiencing this gorgeous country. All staff were very cordial and accommodating.
Beautiful scenery. Attentive tour guides. Alan was efficient and helpful. Great accommodation in convenient locations and meals.
We enjoyed the extension: Croatia's Capital and Beautiful Lakes. As anticipated, Plitvice Lakes National Park was beautiful. A pleasant surprise were the visits to Zadar and Zagreb. Both are interesting and beautiful cities.
The Capital and Lakes program was a wonderful addition to our Croatia trip. The interior of the country is very different from the coast and we were glad we were able to experience the beauty of both. Zagreb is a fascinating city, one I knew nothing about. The waterfalls at Plitvice Lakes were spectacular. The walk around the lakes was beautiful (I wish it were longer), a great experience! It does include a lot of steps and uneven terrain so it could be challenging for people with mobility issues.
The trip to Montenegro and Croatia was the best. We enjoyed being on the yacht and getting to know all the other passengers. By the end of the trip we all shared contact information and shared photos of the trip. Our tour leader, Mirela was extremely knowledgeable and had a fun personality that really made the trip great. We learned so much about the history and culture of the two countries. Croatia was the most gorgeous country we have ever seen and the waterfalls in the National Park were like no other waterfalls we have ever seen any where. The chef on the MS Futura was fabulous and everyone raved about our meals.
The extension in Croatia to the Plitvice Lakes and Zagreb added very different and enjoyable experiences from only exploring the coastal area. This was another high quality Road Scholar exploration.
The market is a must-see in Zagreb. All the stops and tours were first class.
I enjoyed the extension and recommend it to all who travel in Croatia. All five in our group were very glad we chose this option. The topgraphy and history are different from the coastal areas and well worth experiencing. May 13 to 16 were cooler and rainier than the small ship experience from May 17 to 25. A sweater and wind breaker was needed only in this first phase.
I absolutely loved every aspect of this program!!
Take this extension! It was worth every penny and every minute. It gives you a more complete view of Croatia than just the coast. The lakes are amazing. Every step produces a new Kodak moment. In Zagreb you see the culture and get a better understanding of today's Hvatska.
Fantastic trip & outstanding guide Ivan.
Croatia is a beautiful and the people are attractive and tall. I learned that the Dutch people were the tallest and Montenegro were the second.
I enjoyed this trip however, the planning was not that great. The handouts before the trip did not really give enough detail about what we would see. We went a day early but were afraid to do much exploring because we did not want to duplicate what we would see on the formal trip. Good guy, but he appears to shoot from the hip as opposed to really planning what will happen when. He never gave us a lot of details about what would happen that day or the next.
Plitvice National Park is fabulous. This extension allowed a much broader picture of Croatia as a whole than the main program. I am very glad I included it!
The experience was amazing. We had a wonderful time.
We signed on for this extension tour in order to visit Plitvice National Park, and it did not disappoint, in spite of some bad weather and a multitude of tour buses. We also very much enjoyed driving through the central area of Croatia, visiting villages and then staying at the Hotel Dubrovnik right smack dab in the middle of Zagreb. We could walk to all the parks, museums, historical sites and shopping, and then return to our luxury hotel for R and R. All in all, I'm glad we added the excursion as it broadened our new understanding of this proud and gutsy nation.
This is a perfect companion piece to coastal experiences in Croatia. Unforgettable.
This trip extension is an excellent addition to the following coastal cruise and I would highly recommend it. I would suggest taking it before the coastal cruise.
We were thankful we did the extension - the lakes are beautiful and Zagreb is worth seeing and exploring. It gives you a better feel for the entire country, not just the parts along the Adriatic Sea.
Make time for this extension! It's a wonderful addition to the Coastal Voyage by Yacht.
Trip to Croatia via yacht & hotels was one of the best trips abroad I've ever taken; beautiful scenery & interesting history & culture. I highly recommend it!
This is a trip of a lifetime and a "must see" for everyone. Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, it got better!!! Mirela was our group leader and did an outstanding job. I hope that you can be so fortunate and have her as yours. She helped make the trip absolutely unforgettable. Hasta LaVista, Baby!
This extension is very definitely worthwhile. I highly recommend it. One gains a lot by visiting Zagreb. I wish I had arrived a day earlier to have an extra day there. The Park is an extra bonus.
