At a Glance

Building off of many years of Intergenerational experience, Sagamore's Family Program brings families together in a unique natural setting in the Adirondack wilderness. Together with members young and old (and in between!), experience a memorable adventure tailored to all interests and skill levels while enjoying a fun, educational adventure in a camp that is not a hotel, but a piece of regional and American history.
Activity Level
Walking over one mile a day on uneven terrain. May include walking in shallow stream. Stairs unavoidable.
Family Programs
Share your love of learning with your family. These programs are designed for any combination of generations: grandparents, aunts, uncles, parents and children.

Best of all, you'll ...

  • Pick and choose from a wide variety of outdoor activities, such as stream-walking, canoeing, boat-building and restoration, nature-hiking, games or crafts, and music lessons from instructors and artists.
  • Experience lively nights enjoying an old-fashioned barn dance, s’mores around a campfire, stargazing or a night hike into the surrounding wilderness.
  • Spend the week living a piece of Adirondack history, in a wilderness camp once owned by the Vanderbilt family.

General Notes

This is a Family program for participants, their adult children and grandchildren ages 6 and up. For a comparable intergenerational adventure for just grandparents and grandchildren, check out program #4977!

Pat Smith
Pat Smith is among fewer than a dozen craftsmen in the country who build and repair historic cedar canvas canoes. What started as a hobby has become his passion — and a welcome treasure for others. Pat has taught an Intergenerational program that focuses on repair and building techniques. He has taught another program that teaches participants to build a canoe that will be donated to a kids’ summer camp. Pat is also an expert paddle maker and a terrific master of ceremonies for canoe regattas!
