American Mosaic: An NYC Exploration With Your Family was the perfect trip for my granddaughter and me. It was her first experience in NYC, and the program provided an overview of many of the famous landmarks. Every day was rich and full, and the meals were fantastic. A bonus of the family trip is that the multi-generational makeup of the group provided a "ready made" set of friends, and a supportive community for all of us. I highly recommend this trip!

Our goal for this trip was to provide a wider experience and understanding of our world for our two grandsons, ages 9 and 11. They have traveled to London, Amsterdam, Bahamas, many places in the US and will go to Paris in the spring. Walking the streets and riding the subway and bus gave them a real feel for life in the city, which is not the life they lead in Charleston. They are not used to seeing people sleeping on the sidewalk and I want them to appreciate the life they have and have some empathy for those who are less fortunate. Seeing the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the UN, and Little Italy gave them an appreciation of some of our history. Top of the Rock, Coney Island, NY Aquarium, and Central Park showed them some of the great NYC attractions. We even took in a broadway play--one of our grandsons loves to be on stage and was wowed by the quality of the acting and set design. Rusty is a top-notch guide (10), very knowledgeable about NYC, and a delight to be with. We loved how she designed the trip. Langston and Jeff helped keep the trip organized and kept stragglers from getting lost. Although we were tired by the end of the day, I wouldn't change a thing. I want to provide some constructive criticism but honestly I can't think of anything to make it better. I am so glad we had this experience.

Hi - Overall I was happy with our 3-generational NYC experience. I especially liked moving around the city with subways and city buses - to get the feel of living in NYC a bit. (Versus getting on and off a tourist bus.) I felt that the trip had a strong orientation - appropriately - for pre- and early teens. Our group leader was great - energetic, a leader, comfortable with such a diverse group. Some of the suggested reading was very deep into NYC's history - fascinating and perhaps reflecting what the city continues to be. The reading was not referenced during the trip. I did have some trouble coming up with good activities during the free afternoon. I did come down with Covid and moved to a separate room. The Road Scholar NYC office did not return my call asking for any assistance with hotel rates. Good trip!!!

It was a great trip and we are looking to do another. Rusty and Sara did a good job keeping us together (and safe). Road Scholar did a nice job accommodating our dietary requests Thank you!

It was so nice to share the experience with all 3 generations of our family on the trip. NYC has SO much to share with visitors and we hit many highlights. I can see myself returning to the Big Apple on another trip!

Loved this trip fast and fun! We used all of the New York means of transportation. Walking, Subway, Ferry, Bus, Taxi and ride share. We loved the Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island, United Nations and Central Park, the Little Island and the Skyline walk were an added surprise. Rusty was a great leader with mega factoids and her energy created that New York vibe every day. Sarah brought up the back and we all kept up the pace. I would recommend this to everyone who wants to see New York and all of its glory. On our own we saw two Broadway shows. Fabulous! YiaYia, Papou & Dimitri

This trip is a great way to see NYC. Be prepared for a lot of walking and stairs. We upgraded our hotel room for an additional fee and we were happy with our decision. Group leaders and instructors were excellent, although some of the information is more easily understood by teens and adult, rather than for younger children.

A wonderful trip, a whirlwind of activity and LOTS of walking but a great way to sample the joys of the Big Apple. Rusty Dowd is a fantastic guide, enthusiastic , knowledgeable, and clearly loves her city and enjoys sharing it. She is a former camp director and great with the kids. The one glitch was that our same day morning educational talk about Ellis Island lasted so log, we had very little time to actually explore Ellis and Liberty Islands after the long ferry ride out there, which was too bad, we were really looking forward to seeing it. We actually missed Ellis altogether because the line for the return ferry was over an hour long! We saw Hamilton on our afternoon off. The New Yorker hotel is a great location with friendly, helpful staff, but avoid the two people behind the desk in the center back of the lobby, they are not concierges, they are trying to recruit hotel visitors to buy Wyndham timeshares and are very hard to get away from (I approached them just to ask the location of the lobby bathrooms while my husband was checking us in.) Our 14 year old grandson LOVED this trip and even those of us who had been to most of the sites previously njoyed the trip because we learned so much new about them.

this was the first time our grandkids have been to NYC. The trip was very informative for them and they truly enjoyed it despite Hot weather and some rain. Our tour guide Rusty was outstanding and made the touring very comfortable and interesting.

This program allows you to take in the best of New York City while learning a great deal about its history and how the city continues to grow and change. The guide was wonderful -- knowledgeable, kind, caring, and adaptable -- and the program was well-planned. Making use of the excellent public transportation system in New York City helped integrate the group into the essence of the city. There was a small bit of flex time to do things that were important to each family, and the rest of the time was very well utilized. We had a full day every day!

Wonderful trip led by outstanding group leader, Rusty and helper, Raquel. Rusty knows NYC and will safely lead you throughout the city via subway, public bus, and walking. There is a lot of walking, so be prepared with comfortable shoes. This is our 4th and best grandparent trip we've taken through Road Scholar. First time to NYC for my 14 year old granddaughter and myself. Total fun.

If you have never been to New York City, or if you have been there before but didn't get as much out of it as you had hoped, this is the adventure for you. You will learn and enjoy learning so much in such a short time.

Highly recommended as a way to get to know a new area. I saw some places that I probably wouldn't have gone to on my own, like the U.N. headquarters. The guides fill you in on many details that make the trip more interesting.
