This was a lovely trip. The old part of Quebec City was charming and transported you back in time. The guides were friendly and very knowledgeable. I left with a better understanding of old Quebec and its origins. Walking through Old Town was a treat as was the upper town. The shops and restaurants added to the fun and adventure. I highly recommend this trip.

This program is an exceptionally well-conceived introduction to the city of Quebec and French Canada. The group leader (Chantal Bellon) and expert lecturer (Clarisse Frechette) were each outstanding and brought enthusiasm and careful thought and preparation to their task of introducing their home to us. The hotel (Manoir Victoria) was well-chosen for comfort, modernity, attractiveness, and a convenient location within the Old City halfway between the Terrrasse Dufferin (which overlooks the St. Lawrence River from the top of the bluff) and the city walls and ramparts. Finally, the length of the tour was sufficient to give a really good overview of this distinctive and wholly unique North American city, while still requiring just six days away from home.

I loved my "Signature Cities Quebec" tour with Road Scholar. I learned so much from our extraordinary group leader Chantal and our instructors Marie and Clarisse. What a beautiful place, with so many layers of culture and history. My rusty French worked just fine, and Quebec locals were most welcoming.

This was my first trip with RS. I was very impressed with the trip and services - the website and most arrangements - an excellent hotel, well located. Communications were timely and clear. Restaurant selections and food was always excellent. My only quibble was that I had to fly from Boston down to Philadelphia and then up to Quebec - why not more direct to Quebec City. Our tour guide Phillipe was excellent - friendly, warm, very well informed - He provided extra lectures on taxation and Quebec's government that were clear, interesting and memorable. Our scholars, Francois and Charisse (?) were outstanding. Francois led is through an architectural walk distinguishing English and French architecture as well as history which for me was the single best event in the trip. I started the trip knowing nothing about Canada and Quebec and now I feel like I have a foundation that has left me curious and respectful of the country, its culture and people.

My first experience with Road Scholar took me to Quebec, Canada. Every aspect of this educational trip and how it would impact an individual was taken seriously in the planning by Road Scholar. I thoroughly enjoyed everything (from the modes of transportation to the instructors) and everyone (in the group and in the beautiful country of Canada). This trip allowed me to concentrate on learning new things, not dealing with all the trip logistics, that are so important to one's total enjoyment of traveling abroad.

An amazing Qubecois team. Chantal is a fun and informative facilitator. She goes above and beyond to make the experience pleasurable for each individual and for the group. It is clear she loves her city and wants to share its beauty and history. The morning presentations were interesting and engaging and enhanced the whole experience. The added bonus walks at the end of the day with Chantal was the icing on the cake. I would highly recommend Quebec City tour with Chantal the Pin Wheel Lady. Merci Chantal:)

This program is terrific. Our group leader, Chantal, was excellent in both logistics and education, from wearing cheery bright colors and carrying a pinwheel so we wouldn't get lost, to meeting whatever needs came up, to leaving us better informed about “Kebec." Francois, who presented the morning lectures and walks, did a great job of bringing Quebec's history alive. The other guides and everyone we met at the various sites were wonderful. This Signature City program is a great way to spend time in lovely Quebec City.

This was my first Road Scholar tour and trip to French Canada. Chantal, our tour manager and "Pinwheel Lady", was a real hoot and did a great job at organizing and planning, always being on top of everything that she needed to do and giving us lots of good information and inside tips. She went beyond the call of duty, even leading those interested on some extra night walking tours after the group dinners to share her in depth knowledge of Quebec City. The walking tour guides and museum docents were also excellent. I especially enjoyed the informative morning lectures that set the stage for each day's activities. Our hotel, Hotel Manior Victoria, was centrally located and convenient to historical sites, restaurants, and shopping. Quebec City has always been on my travel bucket list and I loved the history, architecture, culture, and European feel and charm of the city. It was a great experience!

What a grand trip, a marvelous first trip with Road Scholars. If you have group leaders even half as entertaining and knowledgeable as Chantal, Clarisse and Marie, your travel organization has a rich future! We enjoyed the learning sessions each morning that were reinforced by our walking tours during the days. The easy camaraderie of the leaders led to an easy fellowship amongst the travelers. We learned so much and saw such a rich history, that Quebec will bring a smile to our faces for many years to come. Just a note on Mary Sue at Montmorency Falls - book her regularly! What a gem she was. All in all, we have fabulous memories and and a grand first experience with Road Scholars. Thanks to all who made this trip unforgettable! We could have used some candid advice on tipping. Its been a long time since we traveled with Bellboys and such nice attentive staff and tour guides. I fear we under tipped.

it was an excellent trip. I enjoyed it immensely. The guides were terrific. in particular Chantal whose knowledge and energy were much appreciated. She was just a blast! and made us all feel very secure and well taken care of. Marie was just phenomenal. we all loved her lectures and her charm. She was particularly endearing. The hotel was great and the breakfast buffets were the best I've had in a hotel. also the whisperer was excellent - very comfortable to use and worked perfectly every time. my only complaint is that at our farewell dinner at the Chateau, the restaurant gave us no prior information on the prices of the wines being offered. each person at my table ordered different wines - one glass each. we were shocked to see the bill as the least amount charged was $25. I personally was charged approximately $36 Canadian. with the tip for excellent service the total came out to $36.94 US dollars. much much more than I would pay for one glass of wine. I recommend that in the future a wine list with prices be provided. Thank you. it was a lovely trip overall. Marta Figueroa

Our engaging, caring, fun group leader, Chantal, and our tour guides, Clarisse and Michael, made the cobblestone streets and the beautiful historic buildings come alive during our lectures and walks. We learned so much through the tours of various sites and were fortunate to stay in a hotel just steps away from the vibrancy of the city. Quebec City is a UNESCO urban heritage city, with a safe cobblestoned city center, that is surrounded by a city wall, and blanketed with a rich 400-year history. The guides, led by Chantal, were superb. Favorite flavors of Quebec were: Ancient Restaurant (pork tenderloin), La Bouche (Québécois traditional yellow pea soup, smoked grilled cheese), Bistro Hortus (creme brulee), Hotel Manoir (caprese salad), L'Entrecote (grilled salmon). Free time, I thoroughly enjoyed my day pass to the Strom Spa Nordique. If you don't think you can keep the pace, or would like an itinerary that has more free time, or have done the Signature Quebec trip and want to go back, then check out the Road Scholar Independent City Discoveries: Quebec City.

Quebec will charm your pants off! What everyone says about this historic city is true-- it feels like going to Europe without having to go all the way to Europe. Be prepared for lots of walking and hills, lots of amazing food, and oodles of charm. A wonderful breakfast buffet at the perfectly located hotel (try the maple ham and indulge in a daily morning croissant to start the day right). The city walking explorations were my personal favorite, followed by the Inuit art exhibit at the art museum. And of course the wonderful camaraderie that we built with our fellow travelers throughout the week. Chantal is an incredibly organized Group Leader, and Clarisse has so much enthusiasm and pride for her city. I really enjoyed learning about how Quebec has managed to maintain their French language and culture despite British control. It's so great to be able to dive so deeply into the history and culture of one city and not have to move hotels throughout the trip.

This was my first in-person trip with Road Scholar, and it far surpassed all expectations! I LOVED this program and its group leader! Chantal Bellon made this program a complete success. Chantal was sensitive to the needs and feelings of each of the participants, and made us each feel very special! If she is a group leader for any other program, I will sign up immediately! What a rock star! She said that her goal was to make people happy, and she did! I am truly in awe of this guide, teacher, and now, good friend. She obviously loves her city and loves sharing it. She guided us with delightful enthusiasm, an infectious sense of humor, and a deep understanding of her country’s history, people, and culture. She summarized key points for each day, answered our many questions, and added side stories along the way to engage us and make us laugh – everything from the difference between a sugar maple and a Norwegian maple to facts about Canada. And I will never look at a school bus again without thinking about Chuck! I especially liked our evening walks not on the itinerary, as a “digestif” after our wonderful dinners. The choice of sites and the variety of our days demonstrated thoughtful planning. The gentlemen who led the discussions and walking tours were also fantastic. François was an excellent speaker and quite animated in the morning lectures. I was in Michael’s group for the walking tours, and was equally impressed by his knowledge and personal connections to Québec’s history. At the end of each day, I felt completely joyful! I feel an emotional connection to and passion for Québec now, and cannot wait to visit again! I have told my family and friends about this program, and especially about Chantal. What a gem! She has set the expectation bar high for the next Road Scholar program. I am deeply grateful to RS for this opportunity to meet such an exceptional person, the other guides, the participants, and this beautiful country! A FANTASTIC program

Great Trip! A few FYIs: Pay Attention!! When Road Scholar says that there is alot of walking uphill on cobblestone and uneven pavement, THEY MEAN IT. If you have knee trouble or trouble walking, try another trip. Also, getting into the hotel means that you have to climb a long set of stairs. They do have an elevator, but you have to call up to the front desk and wait for someone to unlock the door and escort you around the basement to the elevator. The hotel is wonderful! The guide-Chantal, and her speakers-are just gems! The museums and the restaurants are top notch. We did have one problem with one of the restaurants when Road Scholar did not orchestrate the timing of several groups and we overwhelmed the restaurant, consequently causing less than wonderful food. If you have problems walking, I hope that Road Scholar will put together a trip for those of us who would like to go to Quebec, but can't walk as much.

Chantel Bellon (The pinwheel lady) was knowledgeable, friendly and funny. She made the trip extra special! Our guide Clarisse Legrouix was equally fantastic! And the lectures by Mare Fréchette were interesting and well presented. The Hotel Manoir Victoria was located in the center of thé action. It was clean and the rooms were adequate. The only complaint I have is that the program could have been 1 or 2 days longer. It would have been nice to see Orleans island.

This program provides a spectacular experience in the city of Quebec, allowing participants to learn about the history, art, architecture, and culture of this unique area, while also providing opportunities for exercise (lots of walking, but not too strenuous), wonderful food, and time for independent exploration. If you are fortunate enough to have Chantal as your group leader, your experience will be perfect!

Chantal and her two female co-presenters made the trip to this beautiful, historic city extra special. The educational experience was excellent, and each excursion interesting. I will say that Keep the Pace was definitely a good descriptor for this tour. Because of all the steps, cobblestone streets, and hills, it required my best effort and attention in navigating this city. But, overall, it was a Wonderful experience.

How do you evolve a federation out of a long, rich, but fractious history? Quebec City encapsulates so much of the mix of French, indigenous, and Enlish cultures that happened (and is still happening) north of the U.S. border. For those of us only familiar with the achievements and tragedies of U.S. exploration/migration, this tour was an eye-opener. It doesn't hurt that the "classroom" is a beautiful city with gracious people and great food.

The program was absolutely wonderful. I loved interacting with interesting and well-educated people who obviously wanted to learn the history and culture of Quebec. We had such wonderful discussions at shared meals, not only about the events of the day but about any topic imaginable, although we avoided religion and politics. Chantal, our tour leader, was fantastic. She worked hard to make 25 individuals into a cohesive group. I have taken several bus trips (with other tour companies) and I know that the group leader makes the difference. Chantal is the best! I will miss her!

There is so much to learn about Quebec City - it has a fascinating history and is a beautiful place to visit. Our group leader, Chantal Bellon, was wonderful. She was organized and always available. She even arranged for airport taxis for many of us on the last day. Her personality, humor and warmth did much to bring the participants together as a cohesive group! Marie Legroulx, was so knowledgeable and personable, that I looked forward to her lecture and field trips each day. This was a wonderful tour - highly recommended!

The Quebec Signature City tour was just the level of activity we needed to get out of the pandemic doldrums. The tour leader, Chantal Bellon, was amazing for her energy, knowledge of Quebec's locales and history, and ability to satisfy our curiosity. The activities were ideally paced. Clarisse Frechette's history lessons revealed the layers of European, American settler, and Indigenous influences. The museum tours added further depth to the art, culture, and drama of the city and province. And the food was delicious.

In this rather divisive time, it is essential we observe cultural, religious & political systems that have risen from even more diverse backgrounds and progressed to a harmonious, inclusive, prosperous society and world class City. This was a 5 star trip!!!!!! This was an excellent trip. Chantal Bellon is an outstanding group leader. She truly loves sharing her city with visitors, her infectious laugh made her a joy to be around. She was willing to go above and beyond to make the trip memorable for all. She ensured everyone was included and set a good pace during the walking tours. Charisse Frechette and Jocelyn Belleau were engaging and shared many stories about the history of Quebec that helped make the past come alive once again. We were fortunate to be there during their festival so the city was filled with music and lively entertainment which just added to the experience. The hotel staff at Manoir Victoria were thoughtful and willing to meet anyone's requests. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Quebec. The restaurants were all excellent choices, even with many being short staffed due to the pandemic they answered all our questions about the selections. My only comment would be that the choices at the Museum of Fine Arts were not my favorite. The ground duck salad did not meet the high standards previously set Quebec is an amazing city and I would highly recommend this tour.

It's been a long time since I experienced the joy of a Road Scholar trip. Our group leader, Chantal, and the others on her team, including the local experts, guides and drivers, were all great. The love they showed for Québec City and its surroundings was apparent every step of the way, as was their knowledge of the area and beyond. Marie, the main lecturer, had such in-depth and detailed expertise on whatever subject we learned about from her. A few of my favorites: The Ursuline Museum, The Museum of Civilization, The Morrin Center (formerly prison), The Museum of Fine Arts. The food? Splendid, from the moment we arrived to the morning we left. Chantal made sure we sampled every type of cuisine, from an order-your-own boulangerie named Paillard that offered soups, sandwiches, salads and quiches as well as a beautiful assortment of cakes and pastries -- inexpensive, delicious and fast -- to an excellent steak house, to a classic Québecois bistro that specialized in local fare, to a farewell dinner at Château Frontenac on our final night. Spectacular! In my opinion, no visit to Canada would be complete without sampling a poutine, and our fearless leader told us the little place next door to our hotel had some of the best in the city. She was right. My favorite though? the breakfasts at our hotel. It houses one of the best restaurants in the city. It's called Chez Boulay and the chef-owner himself cooked for us the first few days. This is what happens if you're a small group and when a place is short-staffed and still in pandemic mode. We were treated to glorious offerings each morning, much more than most of us normally ate, but the eggs, for instance, were irresistible, especially served alongside crispy potatoes and sausages. I wondered what would happen when large groups appeared. Nothing, except we served ourselves from a buffet. Same fluffy scrambled eggs and all the sides too. I'm running out of space here, so I'll just add that RS has done it again.
