This morning, after a short ride on our motorcoach, our local expert will take us on a refreshing and informative Riverfront Walk, where we’ll learn more about the city’s architecture and history. Afterwards, it's on to the Guthrie! At the beautiful Guthrie Theater, a dramatic theater experience awaits us. We’ll head backstage to the theater’s state-of-the-art costume and scene shops, to see for ourselves how the Guthrie has taken stagecraft to a new level. As we walk, our expert will point out the architectural mastery of the theater, which won the 2008 Pritzker Award (the world's most prestigious architectural prize) for its brilliant design. Its cantilevered endless bridge, twilight blue metal facade, and two-story-high steel panels with images from previous Guthrie performances all exclaim a fascinating artistry.
At one of the Guthrie's onsite restaurants, we will enjoy a delicious lunch of American favorites. Beverage choices include coffee, tea, soft drinks, water; other beverages available for purchase.
We will continue on to the Minnesota Historical Society’s National Historic Landmark, the Mill City Museum, located on the banks of the Mississippi River in the ruins of the Washburn “A” flour mill. When it was built in 1880 the mill was the largest flour mill in the world, grinding over 100 boxcars of wheat into 2 million pounds of flour per day. In 1991, a fire nearly destroyed the old mill. The ruins are now home to a milling museum and education center, including a ninth floor observation deck with stunning overlook of St. Anthony Falls, which powered the mill.
Experience the fine ethnic cuisine of the Twin Cities at a local restaurant with your choice of several 3-course Greek specialties, plus coffee, tea, soft drinks, water; other beverages available for purchase.
Our night culminates with a sensational performance of Metamorphoses at the Guthrie Theater, where with all of our theater knowledge gained today, it is sure to be a most memorable night.
