Italy is a member of the Schengen Agreement, a set of European and national standards governing different types of visas. As a result of this agreement, Americans may visit the country for up to 90 days without a visa, provided they have a US passport valid for at least six months from the planned date of departure from the EU.
A passport is required for this program. It must be valid for at least 6 months after your return date.

If Road Scholar is arranging your air travel to and from the program, and you travel on the scheduled start and end dates, you’ll receive free round-trip transfers from the airport to the hotel.

Getting to the site: To reach the program site from the airport on your own, you have a few options. At the information desk in the airport arrivals terminal, you can get the most updated bus and train timetables. Please check Pisa Airport website for more info: https://www.pisa-airport.com/en/the-passengers/transport.html Bus: At the airport, bus tickets may be purchased at the Information Desk (Arrivals Area). The Bus Area (P6) is located just outside the Passenger Terminal Arrivals Area www.lucca.cttnord.it (Route E3) connects every 30 minutes and 7 days a week from the Pisa Airport to Lucca bus station in Piazza Giuseppe Verdi, in Lucca. The ride is about 1 hour. The distance from Lucca Bus station to the hotel is about 0.3 miles. Train: The Pisa Airport is about 1 km from Pisa Centrale railway station, from which you can reach any Italian railway network destination. At less than 40 meters from the Passenger Terminal at the Pisa Airport, you can find the new, high-speed, fully automatic People Mover service for direct connections between the airport and the Pisa Centrale railway station. The service is available every day from 6:00 AM to 00:00 AM at 5/8 minute intervals. Train: www.trenitalia.com provides train services every 30 minutes and 7 days a week from Pisa central railway station to Lucca train station. The ride is about 30 minutes. The distance from Lucca train station (Piazza Ricasoli) to the hotel is about 0.7 miles. Taxi: Taxis are outside the arrival area. The ride from Pisa Airport to the Palazzo Alexander Hotel in Lucca is about 40 minutes. We cannot quote these services as they are public transportations. Private transfers can be arranged in advance at an additional cost. Information if you are purchasing your own airfare: Participants who have not purchased airfare through Road Scholar are responsible for making their own transfer arrangements to the first site at the beginning of the program, as well as from the last site at the end of the program. The Information Packet Road Scholar sends in advance of the program includes details needed to make your transfer arrangements. If you wish to purchase airfare through Road Scholar, please call (800) 241-1404. Please note: In the unlikely event Road Scholar must make changes to the program's arrival or departure details, we will notify all participants as soon as possible. Participants who have purchased Road Scholar airfare are protected against airline change fees; however, anyone who has not purchased Road Scholar airfare will be required to make their own adjustments and may incur fees imposed by the airline.
