The slower pace allowed me to continue traveling and to explore a country I would not have otherwise been able to experience.

It would be hard to imagine a more educational, varied, enjoyable, thorough, appetizing, and exciting -- but safe -- ten-day adventure in a new and beautiful country than the one Road Scholar offered us in Costa Rica. Pura vida!!!

This trip exceeded our expectations in nearly every way! It was very fun, very educational, and our trip leaders were truly excellent! Everyone in our group expressed the hope that Road Scholar would offer more adventures like this one "at a relaxed pace." We still had SO many wonderful experiences and commend Road Scholar for putting this trip together!

We knew very little about Costa Rica altho' we had visited a coffee farm as part of a Panama Canal cruise some years ago. Our guides Paul and Alex could spot wildlife in a tree in a flash and had telescopes to point them out to us (and take photos with our phones!!). The hotels were ok to good, almost all meals were included (also ok to good). Each lecturer was better than the last. We learned so much about the country, volcanos, macaws. An included outrigger canoe trip was lots of fun. Two river trips were also included (one in the pouring rain atho' there was cover on the boat) and again, we saw lots of wildlife. The bird nature park was just incredible as was the leaf gathering ant farm -- sounds weird but it was really interesting. La Fortuna and the volcano area was especially great. Lovely sunsets on the Pacific coast. Convenience to the airport for the last night's stay. All in all, if you want to see birds and wildlife, this is the trip for you, especially if you have some mobility concerns. The pace was very satisfactory.

This was my third Road Scholar trip and I loved it. Though slower paced, I appreciated that my stamina was necessary at times and that was a good thing! The beauty of Costa Rica and the wide range of experiences on this program far exceeded my hopes.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Costa Rica! Yenrey and Edwin were the perfect guides and made all the experiences fun and educational. While the trip was “at a slower pace,” we saw and did so much and are happy we took this trip. Pure Vida!

What a wonderful, educational adventure! Costa Rica is beautiful, diverse, and welcoming. Our two guides and the various lectures at the activities were knowledgeable, organized and personable. I highly recommend this slower pace trip for folks who like to or need to have less physically demanding activities, while still seeing and experiencing Costa Rica and its wonderful people. "Pura Vida!"

Road Scholar is great way to travel, nice people, good leaders, good food and accomodation, interesting speakers and activities and fun activities.

If you are looking for a program that is less active than most, yet still includes many interesting and fascinating experiences in key areas of Costa Rica, this is a trip to consider. We were in the capitol, the Arenal Volcano area, an indigenous area, on the Pacific coast, and visited organic farms, took short hikes, saw scores of different birds, and went on several river excursions. The food and people are wonderful and we experiences "pura vida" first hand.

I really knew nothing about Costa Rica before this trip. I am now so impressed with this country, due to the high level of information I received from my guides, Stiven and Paul. These 2 young men deserve much credit and my thanks for making this a memorable experience.

Being known as the “slow group”’by some of the other RS groups in Costa Rica at the time sounds like a bad thing, but I respectfully disagree. If you feel like you cannot keep up and it has kept you from visiting this “Eden” in Central America, you should get your bags packed and sign up! The tour was rated at the slowest activity level offered by RS, but chock full of activities and events to challenge our minds and keep us moving. Costa Rica is lush and tropical and diverse in both its people and wildlife. With an emphasis on ecology and living life to the fullest (Pura Vida), a close-up adventure here will inspire and delight your senses. It is a worthy choice to expand your comfort zone!

This trip was a true eye-opener. We experienced first hand and many times hands on how the Costa Rican people value their land by planting and growing sustainability. Our lodging took us to multiple regions experiencing different weather and the chance to see different wildlife. Trails were very manageable for seasoned seniors.

The Costa Rican rain forest in November was thoroughly delightful. Pleasantly warm, not sticky and birds, birds, birds! Also monkeys and sloths, caiman and crocodiles. And friendly people.

This was our first Road Scholar trip. Our trip to Costa Rica far exceeded our expectations. Loved seeing all the colorful birds, sloths, monkeys, & crocodiles. We plan to go on another one next year and take other family members with us. Pura Vida!

It is important to keep learning and keep active appropriate to our age. Road Scholar provided this for me. I was afraid to go on a rowing adventure. That was one regret that I didn't try to go outside my comfort zone. Thank our tour leaders for caring for us individually and as a group. Laura

This trip was so interesting. Saw several types of terrain and enjoyed tours of pineapple farm and others (coffee, sugar cane, etc.) Bring extra clothing because you will sweat through them on more than one day. Be aware that breakfasts started at 7am and evening meals at 7pm - this made very long days for us, even with rest time during the day.
— Review left May 18, 2025
This is a worthwhile trip for any senior - minimal walking, maximum variety of activities, both hands on, nature walk and lecture. Seeing everything from hummingbirds to crocodiles close up and paddling in a canoe to a beach and juicing sugar cane was a joy!

Great trip! Reimer Palma and Katherine Mendez were wonderful. We don't think the trip would have been as much fun without them. If we could do the trip or any Costa Rica trip with them again. we would!

This was my second trip to Costa Rica with Road Scholar in 7 years. Imagine a slower paced trip to 4 diverse regions of the country with two fantastic and knowledgeable guides, Pedro and Randy. The daily outings were geared for easy walks, access to amazing flora and fauna (sloths, monkeys, Macaws, lizards, etc.). Safety was very important. We felt that our group was well protected and insulated from any negative reports frequently viewed on Costa Rica tourist sites. Our guides were flexible and creative...we experienced the usual itinerary plus extras like a chocolate production facility, a tram ride in the Pacific coast highlands, and most importantly, the warmth and welcoming personalities of the Costa Rican people. Highly recommend this trip. Pura Vida!

What I remember the most about this trip to Costa Rica was the beauty of the rain forests and the wonderful hotels we stayed in in the rain forests. While this program has a low activity level, that does not mean there were few things to do. The guides get us busy from morning to night.
— Review left April 25, 2025
The program is as it says, at a slower pace. It has plenty of free time to relax and enjoy the accommodations! Don’t go if you like to walk at a fast clip, lots of walk a bit and stop to watch neat birds or learn about plants. Seeing the crocodiles up close and personal was great! Lovely and exotic accommodations, off the beaten path.
— Review left April 18, 2025
Costa Rica at a Slower Pace is an extraordinary look at rainforests, volcanoes, oceans and animals. This small country, the size of West Virginia, is a funnel for hundreds of birds and mammals. The Ticos are literate and engaging with everyone welcoming and encouraging your Spanish skills. We'll be back.

I have traveled with many tour companies and have been all over the world. This tour of Costa
Rica at a slower pace with Road Scholar was one of my favorite all time trips!!
The tour guides Alex and Pedro were well informed, patient, and humorous as well. They paid kind attention to our every need. They went above and beyond to point out the beautiful flora and fauna and make sure we saw all the sights we wanted to see. They helped us enjoy the river with crocodiles and the beach with the outrigger canoes.
The tour was well paced with learning activities that accompanied the field events and places we would see.
The bus driver Daniel was extremely competent and capable of driving even the most difficult roads. You were always safe.
You will not be disappointed if you want to see the beautiful country of Costa Rica through the lens of the wonderful people who live there.
I will never forget the sights and sounds of the spectacular rainforest. The howler monkeys woke us up and the colorful birds and flowers lighted our journey. The accommodations and food were outstanding. Even in the rain, the sight of the volcano was spectacular!
I plan to return on another trip soon!!!

Slower pace so you may relax in one area longer and learn more about a particular area.

Our guides, Angie and Vinicio, were superb—not only in the way they took care of details but also in their exceptional knowledge of the environment, birds, animals, and history of the regions we visited. The trip included a great mix of activities and places to visit, even at our slow pace. We came away with a deep appreciation of Costa Rica and the many people who are working to preserve its natural resources. We especially enjoyed the opportunities to meet with people who live in Costa Rica. The food and accommodations met or exceeded our expectations, especially in LaFortuna. My favorite area was Sarapiqui. I would love to go back to Costa Rica. Kudos to Angie, Vinicio, and our driver, Alonzo. They all embodied the highest professionalism and cordiality.

I enjoyed it so much!

I had long wanted to visit Costa Rica as I was a fan of its land tenure and social policies. This tour provided a slower paced overview of key areas with engaging lectures from local experts, experienced tour leaders who know their birds, plants and other animals and a friendly group of co-travelers. I was quite satisfied with the overall experience and places we stayed.
— Review left March 20, 2025
This was a great trip and I learned a lot. I now know more about pineapple and hearts of palm and sloths and scarlet macaws and monkeys and orchids than I ever knew before.
The leaders were knowledgable and made sure that we were getting a rich experience.
The places we stayed were wonderful, ranging from nice to luxurious.
The lecturers we had were all excellent teachers (and I'm a teacher myself). They made learning enjoyable. Just the right length and information ----- not overwhelming.
This made me want to come back to Costa Rica to see all the places we didn't get to go.
The other folks on the trip were friendly and we all got along fine. Of course ,friendships developed from a range of "Nice to meet you" to "Let's stay in touch," but no one seemed to be left out.
As a vegetarian, the food ranged from excellent in two locations to not much to eat in another.
The pace was certainly slower ---- at times a bit slow for me --- but I was thrilled that older folks with less mobility were so well included and accommodated. That bodes well for my continuing to travel into the next decade.
Thanks for a great trip.

Costa Rica at a Slower Pace was perfect for my older, 82 year old sister who wanted an overview of Costa Rica. I enjoyed it immensely as well though I would have liked a few more early morning birding outings. Highlights included the Hawaiian paddle boat trip with us working together, the hearts of palm farm watching the lady wield her machete (!) so artfully, seeing and then participating in a rousing native dance performance, and seeing this beautiful and diverse country in its splendor. The accommodations were pretty nice and the leaders, Daniel and Fabian, were excellent, especially the latter with his fabulous birding skills and enthusiasm. I was so taken with all the birds we saw that I signed up for Road Scholar's Birding in Costa Rica in the South for December 2025. I highly recommend this trip, especially for those who need a slow paced adventure (we still saw and did a lot). Hummingbirds, toucans, scarlet macaws, motmots, herons, howler monkeys, ghost bat, sloths with babies, and anteater to name just a few--Oh My!

I was especially impressed by Road Scholar's trip organization from beginning to end, attention to safety, our exceptional guides and bus driver, informative in-depth lectures, daily field trips to homes and businesses, and last but not least, the fascinating rain forest and wildlife! As a first-time solo traveler, I couldn't be happier!

This ranks at or near the top of the now 11 Road Scholar Progarms we have experienced. It is outstanding for its engagement with wildlife. Of course, the slower pace eases the way for those less physically able but it also provides time to absorb and digest the experience in more complete and memorable ways.

This was my first Tour of any kind ever and it surpassed by expectations. The guides on this tour made this already special trip extraordinary. Not only were they friendly, approachable, and well organized, but they also attended to all our questions and concerns before we even thought to ask about them! They provided a deep knowledge of their people, society and biodiversity during “lectures” on the bus and during personal exchanges. The itinerary was just right, including evening lectures by experts that informed us more about what we would see the next day. Not only did we learn about the extraordinary paleo past of Costa Rican nature and its people but we enjoyed meeting people in the places where they lived and worked to learn more about current society. The exposure to the Natural World there by boat and short hikes was just astounding. The pace was right so we could absorb what we were learning, seeing and experiencing. If you want an overview of the country, this tour was perfect. I know I left a bit of my heart back in Costa Rica, and I’m still smiling! Pura Vida!

This was our first Road Scholar trip, and it far exceeded our expectations. The attention to detail and construction of the trip exemplified the highest level of professionalism and a model for experiential education. Factual information was integrated with hands-on experiences and inspirational moments resulting in greater awareness of the interconnections between all aspects of our world - and our responsibility to be better stewards. It was also exciting to hear about and experience the creative entrepreneurship related to eco-tourism in Costa Rica. And all of this in a program carefully designed to foster group bonding and FUN! Our guides were exceptional experiential educators and our bus driver was masterful - and all were such caring people! R&L Isaacs

They were caring and conscientious with everyone, took care of everything, kept us informed every day on the next day’s activities, times and places where we would be. This tour more than exceeded our expectations!!! I’m still feeling the vacation glow 2 weeks later! Road Scholar nailed it putting together an “easy going, slower pace” tour. We saw and experienced the wonders of Costa Rica at a comfortable, do-able pace. Keys to making it great - fantastic guides who were Ticas in the know, friendly inclusive group, and Costa Rica!

This was a fantastic experience! The "pace" was just right for us - we have no problem walking for long times, or going up and down stairs, but chose this option to have more "down time." We enjoyed all of the field trips and especially meeting the people who lived and worked in the area. Our leaders Rebeca and Lizeth were amazing - they were on top of everything, knew so much about the flora and fauna and offered several optional nature walks, e.g. Our driver, Wilson, was also a part of the team - he told great jokes and went out of his way to meet the needs of some of our participants. I couldn't have asked for a better fit than this and totally recommend it to anybody who'd rather not have their days 100% busy.

This trip was fantastic. What made it fantastic was the guides Jose and Alex. Their knowledge and dedication was the best. Some other good things were the small group size, the comfortable bus, the excellent planning, the friendliness of the various hosts and the accommodations. It was almost impossible to say any thing negative about the trip. I am sure everyone in our group was very happy and pleased.
I would like to reiterate how good Jose and Alex were. There knowledge particularly about the wildlife and birds was amazing. We were also impressed with how caring and conscientious they were about everybody, they would go out of there way for you no problem.
Overall it was a very well planned out trip that had lots of interesting activities and visitations. The pace of the trip was very good. The restaurants were all great. The Costa Rica cuisine was not impressive but was good particularly the fruit which was outstanding.
I would recommend this trip to anyone interested in seeing Costa Rica. Thanks Road Scholar for another fantastic adventure.

This was a fantastic experience. Our two guides, Pedro and Daniel, are very experienced, knowledgeable, and attentive to everyone's needs and preferences. This "slower pace" trip was ideal for my wife and I, and for most of the group members. Age slows us down but does not dampen our desire to see and learn. Daniel and Pedro managed all this efficiently and caringly. We have been on nine international tours in the last 14 years. All of our guides have been very good to be with, but Pedro and Daniel are the best guides we have had.
Costa Rica was a wonderful experience. We have a lot positive knowledge to share with our friends and relatives about this beautiful, friendly country.

This was a trip into nature at an unparalled level, experiencing a wide variety of birds, reptiles, monkeys, and a sloth, as well as seeing an organic pineapple farm, butterfly gardens, a massive array of hummingbirds, and learning about hearts of palm and sugar cane.
The experience of being up close to the Arenal Volcano was a major highlight, and visiting five different areas and hotels, and having experts give informative lectures throughout the trip, and meeting wonderful individuals from all over the US and Canada, made for a memorable experience, highly recommended to all!

Costa Rica at a Slower Pace provides an excellent variety of experiences in several regions of this beautiful country. You will see birds, monkeys, crocodiles, lizards, sloths, a volcano and so much more. You will visit a pineapple farm, sugar cane farm, hearts of palm business, a local farm family, and many other businesses. You will take guided short walks in the rainforest and take several river boat trips...and even paddle an outrigger along the Pacific coast. The group leaders and special instructors support and enhance learning about the biodiversity of the rainforest, the geography, culture, economic, education, and social issues of the country. Learn how a country has thrived without an army and has instead invested in education, health care, and social programs for all!

I learned so much about Costa Rica and not a minute was wasted in teaching us about the environment.Everyone we spoke to was absolutely passionate about environmental responsibility.Having 2 extremely skilled local naturalists, Reimer and David, made all the difference. They spotted things that I never would and they could identify them all. While on the Sarapiqui river, our one guide was a great mimic with birds and he called back and forth to them.He also got the howler monkeys all upset because he was talking to them. There was a huge uproar when they all got going.Amazing.
As much as possible, everything was open air and mosquitos were not a problem at all.In fact, the door in my room in Sarapiqui only had a screen and wooden slats in it to let in the air, so I heard all the wildlife around me outside.
We had excellent lectures about Costa Rica ,biodiversity, the rainforest in the evenings.
We took a small river boat up the Tarcoles River and David, our guide, pointed out many river birds. We also saw 6 scarlet macaws flying over the river towards the end of the day. They were absolutely beautiful as they came quite close to the boat. They were endangered but have recovered since the 1990’s due to conservation efforts. It is possible!
We had one outstanding evening….we drove to the Pacific ocean and had a pina colada( with local pineapple juice) watching the sunset. Then we walked to this Oceanside restaurant and had shrimp right out of the adjacent bay.Amazing.
We stopped along the roadside at a fresh fruit stand and tried soursop, tangerine, star apple, cantaloupe, marañon ( cashew),granadilla( passion fruit,)coconut juice directly from the coconut.Just wonderful!
Just so many authentic experiences at a very manageable pace.
The quality of the guides made this one of the best trips I have ever taken in my many travels over the years.

Absolutely wonderful in every way!
Costa Rica is a splendid country to visit, with its great variety of ecosystems, from ocean to mountain.
The values of Conservation and Education and Pura Vida are inspiring and uplifting.
The places and accommodations were excellent, helping us feel that we were in fact deeply sharing the spirit of the place.
The guides were experts, very knowledgeable and very helpful, clear, friendly, interested in us as people, welcoming, kind, responsive to us. Also, the other travelers were a joy to be with.
The specialist talks on indigenous peoples and on the Arenal Volcano were fascinating. The Gold Museum was a real treat. Paddling an outrigger canoe and swimming in the Pacific Ocean were a fantastic highlight! Wonderful boat rides, birding sites, everything was excellent!!

I'm a photographer who had never been to a tropical country before. "Costa Rica at a Slower Pace" gave me countless opportunities to see, experience, and photograph something new. I'll remember our wonderful guides José and Pamela forever, and my fellow travelers greatly enriched the experience. Road Scholar plans every detail beautifully.

Group Leaders Erick Miranda & Angie Rocha excellent, knowledgeable altho young, attentive to time management & open to questions, quick stops to view hard-to-find wildlife. Both & bus driver able to work in a couple of surprise stops. Let us use their telescopes.
Enjoyed home visit/lunch in greater San Jose.
Days structured but adequate free time.
Classroom time nearly all in the eves., when we were less likely to be missing going out & viewing flora/fauna.
Minimal bus riding, longer rides only when leaving one area of country to get to another area.
Having knowledgeable group leaders with in depth info about flora & fauna, stops to observe hard to find animals like sloths (e.g. for photo ops)
RS should provide more information about tipping bellhop/doorman/baggage handler/hotel housekeeper.
Although trip materials had weather information (hot, rain chances) & clothing suggestions, could have included more about high humidity &/or include what temperature “feels like,” since first hotel in rainforest didn’t have AC, making even clothes still in suitcase slightly damp, & harder to dry clothes more difficult than in the hotels with AC (was non-rainy season, too).
The transfer time on last day from Wyndham San Jose Herradura hotel to S.J. airport was twice as long as described/estimated in handout in RS folder (although we did leave in plenty of time to get to airport on time).
Very comfortable (not fancy, but comfortable) lodging selections were good for an older group of participants like ours.
Materials could suggest participants use Mobile Passport Control (MPC) for airport entry to U.S.
Lax in having life jackets close by each traveler in river boat for nature ride on Sarapiqui river (more noticeable after a boat with young English tourists passed our boat and everyone on that boat was wearing a life jacket)
The RS office/agency only open 3 days a wk, & hard to get a human on phone. The flight information/confirm. # was never is available on the website.

A++++ What an amazing trip! Our guides, Eric and Angie, were amazing! The trip was just perfect. We saw Howler monkeys, Capuchin monkeys, Coatis, 8 sloths (2 had babies with them), iguanas, and so many beautiful birds! Costa Rica is such a beautiful place and the people that we met along the way were so welcoming and warm. I would go just to see Dave and Dave's Nature Park - the hummingbird feeders were magical with more than 50 hummingbirds drinking nectar from local flowers at the same time! The Dave's have taken a cleared agricultural field and regrown native plants and trees to provide a natural landscape to bring in the wildlife and it gives me hope that their are people like them trying to restore our forests! The food was amazing and I will never be able to drink juice in the states because we had fresh juice at every meal ! So delicious! This was a perfect trip to see Costa Rica and I wouldn't change a thing! Just go!

This program was excellent on all aspects! The leaders were tremendously good, from the information they provided continuously--about both practical matters to help us know what to expect, what to take that day, etc., to so much about Costa Rica, what we saw and what we didn't. Bus driver made us feel quite confident that we were safe and the leader informed us as we traveled so it all went well. The leaders always had their telescopes and eager to show us what we couldn't see with our eyes--and then using our cell phone cameras to take pictures for us to keep. Their caring and attentivenesss for participants was excellent. All instructors were excellent and the experiences with locals at their sites were wonderful. And the other participants became friends--so compatible and interesting that we shared contact info and our leader established a Photo Circle via app so we can share photos. Everything exceeded my expectations!

TEST YOUR BRAIN WITH CHALLENGES OF TRAVELING
“True scholarship consists in knowing not what things exist,
but what they mean; it is not memory but judgment.”
James Russell Lowell
Early to bed, early to rise, nutritious Costa Rican meals and new friendships equal a great recipe for PURA VIDA. This marketing theme for the country lived up to its reputation for a good life. We had few worries about the weather or mosquitos. Never bored with constant activities, time was available to freely explore the gardens, walks and pools around the lodges. My previous thinking was that the anticipation of a trip is greater than the realization. In this marvelous experience provided by the Road Scholar program, the realization was so much greater than the expectation. With that judgment our crew of Scholars wholeheartedly agree...and so does my healthy well-exercised brain!

This was a fantastic trip! There was so much variety and a PERFECT balance between educational and recreational activities. We experienced three different habitats -- tropical rainforest, Volcano region, and Pacific coast beaches. We saw exotic flora and fauna, including howler monkeys, white-faced monkeys, sloths, iguanas, crocodiles, and beautiful birds of many kinds. There were tours of pineapple plantations, sugar cane, and hearts of palm, exposure to organic agriculture and a Butterfly Garden and Botanical garden, as well as a couple of museums. We also had cooking lessons for Queso Blanco and flour tortillas. Lectures from local experts about history, geography, and environmental protection were great too. I really enjoyed the local foods (especially the yummy fruits and fruit juices), the folk dancing, two boat cruises, and the sea canoeing on 'outrigger' vessels. The accommodations were sometimes rustic or simple, but other times upscale similar to resorts. Best of all, the program was well paced and organized. Our two group leaders, Ivan Castillo and Jenny Orviedo, are both very knowledgable and clearly passionate about Costa Rica -- they communicated well with us, were able and willing to solve any problem, and generally were able to take a group of strangers with varying personalities and attitudes and lead us to feel safe and comfortable, so that by the end of our stay we were like a family with a special, shared experience.
I highly recommend this Road Scholar excursion!

I loved the boat ride on the Sarapiqui River, the hike at the Arenal Volcano, and the visit to the macaw rescue farm. I really loved this trip. While my husband was concerned that it might not include enough physical activity, I was concerned I could no longer walk 3 to 5 miles a day as we've done in other RS trips. This trip more than satisfied both of us. We joked about the fear that it might be too "leisurely." No worries! The walking wasn't overwhelming, but the activities were varied and wonderful and kept us on our toes (if not always on the soles of our feet.) Saw and learned so much about beautiful Costa Rica, enjoyed having 3 night stays at several places and the opportunities for longer or shorter walks, and loved being immersed in biodiversity!

My wife, Sandy, and I enjoyed this trip tremendously. All of the excursions to the different parts of Costa Rica were awesome and a delight to see. We had never visited a rainforest or a cloud forest before and were amazed by how often it rains and how heavy the rain is. The hotels we stayed in and the amenities available were great, but we wished that there would have been ceiling fans in all the rooms for better air circulation. Also the various restaurants and the food served was tremendous. One other criticism is that the two river trips could have been combined into one trip because pretty much the same wildlife was seen on both trips. One last thing: the two guides, Reimer Palma and Erick Miranda, are awesome guides. Reimer and Erick are very knowledgeable of their country, are very congenial and helpful with older people, and my wife and I will recommend that our friends who want to visit Costa Rica request that Reimer and Erick be the guides on there particular tour. Finally we enjoyed meeting and getting to know new friends. Thank you Road Scholar.

My wife, Polly, and I were participants in this Costa Rican program in March of 2019. It was our 9th program with Road Scholar and it was a gem.
Katherine and Stephanie were outstanding and knowledgeable guides. We were also fortunate to have Nicasio for our bus driver.
Visiting four different regions of Costa Rica made for some very educational experiences. Paulo Valerio started us off with a great lecture. Other highlights included touring an organic pineapple plantation, hearing a talk on pre-Columbian history, visiting a sugar cane farm and seeing the birds at David and David’s Place. Visiting a children’s school and taking an outrigger canoe ride with Kayak Jaco proved to be quite memorable. And, along the way we had lunch at great local places.
Our accommodations were quite nice, especially the Sarapiquis Rainforest Lodge and the Hotel Arenal Manoa. And, like on all Road Scholar trips, we met some wonderful fellow travelers.
If you want to experience a special culture and meet some wonderful people – people who value literacy and the environment, put this trip on your list. Pura vida!

The program is designed specifically for seniors. However it should be noted that to enjoy the program and most activities it does require a certain amount of stamina.

I was studying my Spanish using Duolingo before my trip. I should have made more chances to practice while I was in Costa Rica.

I was thoroughly delighted with the Costa Rica at a Slower Pace program - it exceeded my expectations. Having such a small group (15) was wonderful, and Katherine and Alex were fantastic guides. I took this trip to celebrate my 72nd birthday and I got more than my money's worth.

Know that if you choose Road Scholar you will be amazed at the knowledge and the experiences you will come away with. The Slow Paced program allows everyone to have a remarkable trip that will go beyond your expectations!! The group leaders and instructors they choose are extremely accomodating, courteous, respectful, knowledgeable and all have a keen sense of environmental consciousness!
