After checking out of the hotel with our overnight gear, we’ll depart for OMSI for a full day of science labs, classes, and exploration. OMSI will store our luggage until we need it for tonight's sleepover. This morning we will participate in two hands-on labs.
At the on-site Theory Café, use the provided voucher to choose from a variety of options including sandwiches, salads, tacos, and pizza.
Take some free time this afternoon to explore the 5 halls at OMSI featuring interactive exhibits and activities. Later this afternoon we will view an educational film on the 4-story screen at OMSI’s Empirical Theater! After the film, we will be led by OMSI staff for another hands-on science class.
Early at OMSI in a private room, we’ll have a buffet barbecue meal with our group.
We’ll walk next door to the USS Blueback, stow our gear, get our bearings, and then take a virtual trip to the stars in the Kendall Planetarium. Returning to the submarine, OMSI staff will help us explore the control room, the torpedo room, the crew's quarters, and peer through the periscope. The USS Blueback was the U.S. Navy’s last non-nuclear, fast attack sub. It was launched in 1959, decommissioned in 1990, and donated several years later to OMSI where it has been ever since.
