Phoenix Inn

Activity note: Hotel check-in from 3:00 p.m.

Afternoon: When you check in at the front desk, pick up your welcome packet containing your name-tag, up-to-date schedule that reflects any last-minute changes, other important information, and to learn when and where the Orientation session will take place. If you arrive late, please ask for your packet when you check in. Then take some time to freshen up and relax before dinner. At 5:30 p.m., we will begin van shuttle service from the hotel to The Shedd (John G. Shedd Institute for the Arts) for dinner. The Road Scholar program at OFAM includes 6 out of 7 available performances: opening and closing evening concerts, 2 matinees, and your choice of 2 additional evening concerts. Road Scholar tickets are in B-level seating that can be upgraded to A-level for a small fee. You may also add another evening concert if you wish at a special Road Scholar discount. An order form and concert descriptions will be included in your materials or you can contact the Shedd Ticket Office directly at 541-434-7000.

Dinner: 6:00 p.m. In the Great Hall at The Shedd, we’ll have plated meals with beverage choices of soda, coffee tea, Oregon water; other beverages available for purchase.

Evening: Orientation: Ginevra Ralph, Director of Education and Co-Founder of The Shedd Institute and Oregon Festival of American Music, will greet everyone and lead introductions. We will review the up-to-date program schedule, discuss roles and responsibilities, logistics, safety guidelines, emergency procedures, and answer questions. Program activities and all meals are at The Shedd. Road Scholars are invited to attend post-concert receptions with the artists. There is a scheduled shuttle service for riding to/from the The Shedd that can also be arranged as needed. We’ll also have a day for “wild card” activities to choose from that we’ll discuss during our Orientation session. Periods in the schedule labeled “Free Time” and “At Leisure” offer opportunities to make the program more meaningful and memorable while going out to explore on your own, engaging in available activities independently, making new friends among fellow Road Scholars, or simply relaxing. The Group Leader will always be happy to offer suggestions. Program activities, schedules, personnel, and indicated distances or times may change due to local circumstances/conditions. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding. Ginevra will also present a short history of The Shedd Institute’s year-round music programming, educational activities, and tell the story of how the organization has turned this 65,000 square foot former church into a premier concert hall as well as “acres” of classrooms for a community music institute. Continue getting to know your fellow Road Scholars, settle in, and get a good night’s rest for the day ahead.
