At a Glance

Sail aboard the historic 101-foot schooner Adventuress, a National Historic Landmark and Puget Sound treasure constructed in 1913. Become a part of the crew—take the helm, raise the sails, explore the San Juan Islands and participate in all aspects of shipboard life while sailing by day and anchoring at a different harbor each night. Learn about the marine environment of the Salish Sea while taking part in an authentic maritime experience.

Participants raise the sails and keep the vessel shipshape. Must be able to climb eight steps up and down a ladder, climb into bunks and maneuver in small spaces.

Rachael Slattery
Captain Rachael is a long-time member of the Sound Experience community, an expert mariner, and a dynamic leader dedicated to running engaging programs on Adventuress. Rachael first came aboard in 2008 and went on to serve two seasons as First Mate. She has extensive “driving” experience, most recently in Newport, Rhode Island, where she got on and off the dock five times daily. When not on ships, Rachael joins her partner, Ben, in running Wild Harmony Farm, an organization that raises organic, grass-fed livestock.
