The Greyfield Inn is a grand, graceful mansion located on Georgia's southernmost coastal island, Cumberland Island. Built in 1900, and opened as an inn in 1962, Greyfield is furnished today as it was at the turn of the century, with contemporary amenities blended in with the comfort of guests in mind. Family portraits still hang in the parlor; horsehair chairs flank a massive fireplace. Even the original books are in place in the library. There is no check-in desk, no televisions or phones or ice machines or spa services. Just a rambling house with a spacious old verandah, dining rooms, bedrooms on this floor and that, large bathrooms with clawfoot tubs and pedestal sinks. Bedroom windows face massive live oaks or the salt marshes along the Cumberland River. In true southern fashion, they take great pride in their kitchen. Each morning, awaken to a full and satisfying breakfast which includes fresh-squeezed orange juice and fruit, homemade muffins and breakfast meats, as well as eggs, pancakes or one of the chef's specialties. Midday, enjoy the day's explorations with a satisfying picnic lunch. During cocktail hour each evening, Greyfield serves hors d'ouvres in the Inn's well-stocked bar while sharing stories with fellow guests. Dinner is a casually elegant affair. The nightly entrées feature fresh and creative cuisine, accompanied, if desired, by a selection from the wine cellar. This grand Carnegie southern plantation is a step back in time. The dedicated staff is there to ensure that the stay on their idyllic, private island is the perfect retreat. PLEASE NOTE: Greyfield is a historic inn with no elevator and sleeping rooms on the second and third floors. Accessible rooms are not available. ALL ROOMS HAVE EITHER ONE QUEEN OR ONE KING BED. WE ARE UNABLE TO ACCOMMODATE ROOMMATE MATCHING AND REQUESTS FOR TWO BEDS ON THIS PROGRAM. Two rooms share a bathroom. This is picked at random, by the Inn, and means there could be 3-4 people in one bath for the 2-night stay.
