I really enjoyed this trip. What a unique landscape and people! The trails were scenic and thrilling, with fascinating geology and crashing surf against vertical rock faces. I learned about history and the struggles of the local people. We loved snacking on blueberries as we hiked. The local cod was delicious, too. Our guides were local and knew the land and history well and could answer all my questions.

We loved this trip! We would like to return someday. Our guide, Dan Goodyear, displayed knowledge, humor, stamina, and compassion. The week's itinerary was great and hikes challenging. We spotted both the puffins and whales! The interesting historic sites of St. John's, Port Union, Trinity, Cape Bonavista townspeople friendly and inviting. The subject matter experts were well qualified and open to answering the group's many questions. The adventure was fun and group camaraderie evident when we said our goodbyes. Thank you so very much. Best wishes, Karen and John

This was my second Road Scholar trip and my first time in Newfoundland. I immediately fell in love with the beauty of the landscapes here, from the breathtaking sea stacks to the sightings of whales and puffins along our daily walks. The expert geologists and local historians taught me so much about the areas we visited. A highlight of the trip for me was meeting the local people of Port Union and dancing many a jig after becoming an honorary Newfoundlander in a “Screeching In” ceremony!

hikes are beautiful, but be aware they include stairs, narrow areas and varied terrain. Also bring rain gear! Staff and guides were excellent, introduced us to local residents, and taught us a lot about the area and history. I highly recommend this trip.

Newfoundland was beautiful beyond my expectations and I live in what I’ve always thought was the most beautiful place in the world. The culture, the people, the landscape are all worth experiencing.

I really enjoyed this trip. Newfoundland is beautiful and we had wonderful views as we hiked along the coast. The food was also very good - food your grandma would make. I went at the end of July and we had great weather - sunny almost the entire time and relatively warm. I would recommend this trip to others.

This was an outstanding trip. The coastal trails proved rugged enough to challenge us and the vistas we found were truly rewarding. Our tour guide's enthusiasm and care supplied us with plenty of energy. Newfoundland is a gem waiting to be discovered. The hiking there, with the dynamic Atlantic always nearby, was truly memorable.

Really enjoyed our guide Barb!! She is very knowledgeable about hiking, the outdoors and the areas we explored. And just plain fun to be with! Newfoundland is beautiful and hiking the trails is a great way to enjoy all that it offers. We were well organized, very well fed and taken care of all the way. The local experts that joined us on the trails were very nice and again knowledgeable folks, personally I would have preferred a little faster pace on those days. Really enjoyed the walking tours of Port Union and Trinity. Great way to learn some history.

Spectacular views in fog, clouds, or sunshine. Fascinating history, geology, botany. Hikes that got my blood pumping at times, but were never too strenuous. Through our leaders and their interactions with the community. I got a strong sense of how proud Newfoundlanders are of their home. I LOVED this program!
