Afternoon: Arrivals continue, with free time for those who have already arrived. At 6pm we will have an Orientation and reception with drinks in the hotel. The Group Leader will greet everyone and lead introductions. This program is staffed with both a Group Leader, who will accompany us throughout the program and deal primarily with logistics, and a Study Leader who will lecture, conduct field trips and serve as an information resource on program-related topics. We will review the program theme, the up-to-date Daily Schedule and any changes, discuss safety guidelines, emergency procedures, roles and responsibilities and answer any questions you may have. We have set aside some free time in the schedule for your personal independent exploration. Please note that program activities, schedules and personnel may need to change due to local circumstances. In the event of changes, we will alert you as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

Dinner: This meal has been excluded from the programme cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like.

Evening: Free time to settle in, relax and get a good night’s sleep for the programme ahead.

Breakfast: In the hotel dining room, the breakfast buffet offers a variety of hot and cold items such as eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes, tomatoes, mushrooms, cereals, toast, pastries, fruit, cold cuts, cheeses, yoghurts, juices, tea, coffee, water.

Morning: Free time. Your Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions should you wish to explore the local area. We depart by motor coach for the Queen Mary 2 at 1:00pm.

Lunch: You may take a late lunch aboard the Queen Mary 2.

Afternoon: We will rendezvous at an agreed upon time and place the Group Leader will announce. We will then depart for the pier, complete embarkation procedures, and board the Queen Mary 2. Take some time to settle in and begin to familiarize yourself with the ship. There will also be a mandatory Safety Drill this afternoon, so please listen out for the Captain’s announcements once on board.

Dinner: Taken in the Britannia Restaurant. Delicious menus designed by Cunard’s Global Culinary Ambassador, Jean-Marie Zimmermann await you in Britannia and Britannia Club Restaurants. Make a dramatic entrance down the grand staircase into the elegant Britannia dining room and revel in the sumptuous menus and perfectly attentive service.

Evening: Free time. See a show tonight in the ballroom, or relax and watch a movie in the theatre, or perhaps wander to one of the bars for a beverage and chat. Perhaps even wander through the library, one of the best shipboard libraries available, to find a book and that perfect reading chair.

Breakfast: Breakfast on board in the venue of your choosing. Select one of the King’s Court dining options on Deck 7, go down to the Britannia Restaurant or relax with breakfast in your room as you watch the televised descriptions of the day’s on board activities.

Morning: Free time to enjoy a variety of shipboard-enrichment activities. Consider taking a class such as watercolour painting or ballroom dancing, enjoying one of the ship's swimming pools, and more.

Lunch: Lunch on board in the venue of your choosing. Your options include the various King’s Court venues, the Britannia Restaurant, Todd English (at additional cost) or a light lunch in the Boardwalk Café if the weather permits.

Afternoon: To prepare you for your theatre experience in London, Study Leader Giles Ramsay will present the first of a series of dynamic and informative lectures. Over the next week you’ll discuss the origins of theatre, Elizabethan plays and playhouses and how to direct a play. We’ll also study contemporary British theatre, the life and verse of Shakespeare and even debate what constitutes theatre in the modern day. Under Giles’s expert stewardship, you’ll be more than prepared by the time we dock in Southampton.

Dinner: Taken in the Britannia Restaurant.

Evening: Free time. You may choose to enjoy a show in the ship’s theatre, practice your dance steps in the ballroom or simply return to your stateroom and enjoy one of the movies screened on the ship’s TV.

Breakfast: In the venue of your choosing, select one of the King’s Court dining options on Deck 7, go down to the Britannia Restaurant or relax with breakfast in your room as you watch the televised descriptions of the day’s on board activities.

Morning: Free Time. Take advantage of a variety of enrichment activities. You might attend a presentation by a guest speaker, take a class such as watercolor painting or ballroom dancing, take a dip in one of the swimming pools, or any of the many other options.

Lunch: In the venue of your choosing. Options include the various King’s Court venues, the Britannia Restaurant, or a light lunch in the Boardwalk Café if weather permits.

Afternoon: Giles Ramsay continues his informative and entertaining lecture series, before we enjoy a welcome cocktail party.

Dinner: 6:00pm. Served in the Britannia Restaurant.

Evening: Free time. Enjoy a variety of shipboard-enrichment activities, including many kinds of evening entertainment featuring dancing, music and more.

Evening: At leisure. You may wish to visit the Queen Mary 2’s beautiful theatre, home to nightly productions from stars of stage and screen alike.

Morning: Free time to prepare for disembarkation, and perhaps enjoy a final few activities on board. You may wish to explore the history of the Cunard Line at a unique exhibition running through the halls of the ship.

Afternoon: Your Study Leader delivers his final on board lecture and prepares you for the sights and sounds of London.

Dinner: Taken in the Britannia Restaurant.

Evening: At leisure. Enjoy your last evening onboard and prepare for disembarkation and transfer in the morning.

Disembarkation & Transfer to London via Winchester

Activity note: Walking and standing of up to one hour in Winchester -own discretion.

Breakfast: Early breakfast on board in the venue of your choosing.

Morning: We disembark the Queen Mary 2 and board the motor coach for our transfer to London. En route (12 miles) we will pay a visit to the Cathedral City of Winchester

Lunch: Lunch will be taken out in Winchester at a traditional pub.

Afternoon: The transfer continues the 75 miles to London, before we check in and have time to relax before dinner. ETA 3:30pm.

Dinner: Three course served and plated dinner in the hotel. Tea, coffee and water included. Other beverages available for purchase.

Evening: Enjoy a performance in one of London’s theatres. Please note that, due to theatre schedules, performances will be confirmed in your second set of Preparatory Materials and are subject to change.

Morning: Enjoy a captivating interactive discussion on the “State of the Nation” with one of the UK’s leading political journalists. Examining the headlines of the day, this session with put past and present political issues into startling focus.

Lunch: This meal has been excluded from the program cost and is on your own to enjoy what you like. The Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions and give directions.

Afternoon: Free time. Your Group Leader will be happy to offer suggestions should you wish to further explore London.

Dinner: In the hotel.

Evening: Enjoy a performance at one of London’s theatres.

The V&A, The Rehearsal Room & Theatre Performance

Morning: This morning we board the motor coach and travel three miles to the Victoria & Albert Museum. The museum houses the world’s largest collection of decorative arts and design, holding a collection of some 4.5 million objects. We’ll be focussing on the impressive theatre and performance galleries, which are dedicated to the performance arts in all guises and display works of art, recordings, costumes and other related ephemera.

Lunch: On your own to enjoy what you like.

Afternoon: This afternoon we make our way to the Royal Academy of the Dramatic Arts (subject to availability) to take place in a hands-on workshop. Two acclaimed West End actors will lead you through the rehearsal process, demonstrating that the rehearsal room is a safe space for exploration and experimentation – it’s often during this exercise that important creative decisions are made, directions that would never have come to life without this ability to try new approaches.

Evening: Enjoy a performance at one of London’s theatres.

Meet A Theatre Critic & Enjoy A Final Performance

Morning: Free time, before we board the motor coach, at 11:00am, for a self-guided field trip to the National Gallery, one of the most visited art museums in the world and home to over 2,300 paintings.

Lunch: On your own to enjoy what you like.

Afternoon: Enjoy a longstanding British tradition with an Afternoon Tea, of sandwiches and cream and scones, at the Phoenix Artists Club. This lively and nostalgic private club is located in the original dressing and rehearsal rooms of the Phoenix Theatre, and it was on the stage above where Sir Laurence Olivier made his stage debut in the 1930’s. We’ll be joined by one of London’s leading theatre critics for an in-depth discussion of the shows we have seen.

Dinner: The Afternoon Tea will replace a pre-theatre dinner.

Evening: Enjoy a final performance at one of London’s theatres.

Morning: Transfer to London Heathrow Airport (LHR) for onward flights. Refer to your personal air itinerary for flight information. This concludes our program.
